Community Tasting Notes (average 91.9 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 73 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by buckeye76 on 5/4/2024 & rated 93 points: Deep ruby/purple color. Black raspberries, black cherries, minerals and spice in the nose with hints of floral and tobacco Raspberries and cherries in the flavor with notes of spice. An elegant wine, well balanced, full bodied, great texture and a long finish. Drinking very well right now. 93/94 (44 views)
Tasted by MAXIMUM SATISFACTION on 11/3/2023 & rated 90 points: This is definitely a style that has fallen out of favor. Massively ripe berries with medicinal/menthol edges. Still alive but no structure or acid. Probably past prime. (382 views)
Tasted by corkscrews on 9/5/2022 & rated 93 points: A nose of dark fruits and spice, dark purple in color. A bold full bodied Rhone blend, with black cherry, raspberry, cherry liquor, cola and spices on finish. Drinking great now. www.winelx.com (713 views)
Tasted by Three-Star Dave on 4/9/2022 & rated 95 points: Great timing. Complemented BBQ steak nicely. Lovely flavor. (981 views)
Tasted by up4wine on 4/20/2021: Nice wine, although a little more jammy and fruit forward than I typically prefer. Considering that it is 70% Grenache, my comment is seemingly a bit misplaced, as I would have expected much more than 8% Syrah in a wine I describe this way. Well, this is not really a science, just trying to verbalize a memory. (1425 views)
Tasted by DavilaDC on 3/31/2021 & rated 87 points: Flabby and over the hill. No acidity and tannins are faded. Can't stand up to a steak. Drink now with chocolate for dessert. (1417 views)
Tasted by Whine-oh on 12/24/2020 & rated 89 points: Pnp. No bricking, no sediment. Still lots of bright fruit. Tannins still present. Calmed down from initial tasting years previous. Went well with richness of crab cakes and roast duck. Very alive tonight. (1312 views)
Tasted by up4wine on 6/28/2020 & rated 93 points: Top wine of the 4 "Tour of CA Wines" tasting. Excellent balance and fully integrated. A good time to drink. (1308 views)
Tasted by norsktorsk on 4/12/2020 & rated 93 points: very nice. (1321 views)
Tasted by EMTAME on 4/8/2020 & rated 90 points: Good stuff and fully open for business, although there is a hint of the almost 16% alcohol in the finish. (1075 views)
Tasted by mischwine on 3/29/2020 & rated 89 points: Overall enjoyable but on the down slope.... (972 views)
Tasted by seijaro on 12/25/2019 & rated 94 points: A lovely Grenache blend! It's now fully integrated and smooth as silk, no overt tannin, the Grenache is up front and beautiful. Don't see how it can get a lot better from here, so just enjoy it.
There was a glass left over uncorked in the bottle overnight, we tried it the next day... still terrific, so it has years of life left.

3/14 another bottle, same review but maybe 95 for a while. Love it :) (1251 views)
Tasted by bunkie on 12/24/2019 & rated 93 points: Delicious! (951 views)
Tasted by jonahfactor on 10/27/2019: Patience was rewarded. The different varietals in this offering have integrated perfectly since last tasted a few years ago. Pine needles and ocean spray in the bouquet, and a lush, velvety texture on the palate, followed by a bold, yet ultimately restrained, finish. Soy sauce, black raspberries, Asian spices and cedar notes throughout. The texture is astounding. Drink now to 2023. Outstanding. (1001 views)
Tasted by Backdoctor on 10/11/2019 & rated 92 points: Great Grenache nose. Opened up with good dark fruits (930 views)
Tasted by mischwine on 9/2/2019 & rated 91 points: 70% Grenache 12% Mourvedre and 18% Cinsault and Syrah. overall - delightful. (1029 views)
Tasted by Beezc on 9/1/2019 & rated 92 points: Red berries with some floral undertones. Not overly complex but a very smooth drinking wine with a long finish. (904 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 5/17/2019 & rated 92 points: This wine has really come in to its own since my last taste 2 years ago. (1186 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 4/9/2018 & rated 92 points: Super wine and still very young and exuberant. Would hold off another 2-3 years to let it mellow a bit. (2139 views)
Tasted by Backdoctor on 4/8/2018 & rated 92 points: Great Grenache nose. Super Rhône blend (1817 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 2/9/2018 & rated 93 points: Nice GSM blend which is drinking well now but likely continue to improve for a few more years. (1876 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 7/1/2017 & rated 92 points: Lovely wine with good dark fruit and GSM blend. Still tannic structure and suspect this will continue to improve over the next few years. (2402 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 2/11/2017 & rated 94 points: Just delicious (2682 views)
Tasted by twoamps on 1/24/2017 & rated 92 points: fruit-forward, grenache-forward, very much a LC house style GSM. Has a few years left to go. (2102 views)
Tasted by rdf58 on 1/7/2017 & rated 92 points: Very similar to previous bottle from 7-8 months ago. Soft, peppery grenache backed up by Rhone varietals. Nice fruit with a bit of leather, white pepper and herb. Unobtrusive tannins on the finish. (1971 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
