Tasted by lightning on 5/12/2017 & rated 87 points: Aglianico.

Dark plums, spice, leather on the nose; medium-plus body, chewy texture with a sliver of acid before bold furry tannins rear up in the midpalate, flavours of black olive, star anise, leather and dried fig. Probably has another 3-4 years in it. Nice to try, but not a wine I would retry/buy. Look forward to tasting a Taurasi or a more renown Aglianico del Vulture. (1046 views)
Tasted by TannicBeast on 2/16/2016 & rated 90 points: Clear, ruby in color, medium (+) intensity. The nose is clean, medium (+) in intensity, with aromas of black fruits, dried fruits, brewed tea, vanilla, cedar, and leather. The nose is showing much more development than a couple of years ago. The palate is dry, with medium (+) acidity, alcohol and tannins which, although somewhat rounder are still quite noticeable. This wine has evolved very nicely since my 2013 note and is drinking great. It may be at, or close to, its peak and should last for several more years. (1256 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 9/22/2015 & rated 90 points: Birthday/Aglianico, 58 Port, ++ (My home): I had this in last place BUT, it was the groups WOTN with a couple of 1st and 2nd places votes each. Certainly, a great value. Purple in color. The nose has dark cherries and Christmas spice. Tannic. Black cherries. Slightly ripe/sweet. Got better all night. Delicious. (2205 views)
Tasted by chatters on 4/11/2015: 121 BC Saturday tasting (121 BC, Sydney): Slight dusty and slight oxidised notes, black plum over black cherry, spice, quite dense, slight cedar notes. In the mouth the wine is juicy with savoury plums and cherry fruit. Thick, chewy, dense tannins that persist and join the fruit which all carries on the long finish. A second tastes reveals some cream and very slight vanilla as well. nice but needs, say, 3-5 years to integrate further and develop some more complexity. (1892 views)
Tasted by jmasterj on 11/14/2014 & rated 89 points: Wonderful wood aged influences playing between cedar, baking spice and black pepper. Dark fruits, plum. Medium + body and medium high tannin. Drinking nicely now. (1796 views)
Tasted by Lilja on 10/22/2014 & rated 88 points: Quite a lot of oak on the nose. Vanilla, dill, ceder but also cherries, apple seeds and some barnyard. Distinct and fresh acidity, with good fruitiness on the palate. There's some unpolished, quite rough tannins and a slightly bitter finish. Medium body and good intensity. Nice wine, and a nice price! Might need a few years in the cellar to smoothen out a bit. (1469 views)
Tasted by mcbrydeSTL on 4/3/2014 & rated 83 points: Good but a little light. I'd light a little more weight to it. (1328 views)
Tasted by mauropallido on 11/9/2013 & rated 88 points: Vino molto giovane, ruspante, ancora un po' nervoso e tannico.
(1433 views)
Tasted by TannicBeast on 10/20/2013 & rated 91 points: Clear, purple and ruby in color, medium (+) intensity. The nose is clean, medium (+) in intensity, with aromas of black fruits and dried fruits. The palate is dry, with medium to medium (+) acidity, medium alcohol at 14% and medium (+) tannins. The polyalcohols are medium and smooth, and the minerality is medium (+) as a result of the volcanic soils. This is full bodied, remarkeably balanced, with a medium (+) to long finish. Impressive now, but would really benefit from a decant or a couple more years of ageing. It sees a little bit of oak. (1352 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 8/1/2013 & rated 93 points: Very dark purple red violet color; Fresh, tart berry, violets, dried berry nose; tasty, dried berry, deep tart blackberry, wile berry, mineral palate with medium acidity; could use 2 years; medium-plus finish (18 mos in large and small Slovenian oak) (369 views)

Aglianico

Varietal character (Appellation America)

The Southern Italy Outpost (on the CellartTracker Forum)

Originally from Greece and an early Roman favorite, Aglianico was planted as early as the seventh century B.C. Infused with interesting aromas of plums, raisins and licorice. Dried floral notes flow easily into the medium to full-bodied palate of black pepper, smooth, subtle cherry, and plum flavors.. A stylish, intriguing young red, with fine tannins and a ripe balanced finish.
