Tasted by thelostverse on 5/13/2020 & rated 94 points: By the far the best bottle of this I've opened. Tropical notes with minimal oak and everything in perfect harmony tonight. Sadly my last bottle. (1596 views)
Tasted by ljl203 on 11/17/2019 & rated 91 points: Better at room temp. Butterscotch, papaya, lime acid and bitter pineapple. (1699 views)
Tasted by Beezc on 8/25/2018 & rated 92 points: Excellent wine for the money! (2094 views)
Tasted by pakabear on 7/1/2018 & rated 92 points: Sour Meyer lemon, sea shells, salty blue stone, quince, intense flavors, really good balance and ready for business as a PnP. (2235 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 2/22/2018 & rated 94 points: Really nice, apple, lemon curd, tangerine, subtle vanilla and oak, hint of butter, and a balanced finish. Touch of heat at the end. Great bang for the buck. (2633 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 2/21/2018 & rated 93 points: When tasted cold and with salty food it was okay at best, when given air time and cellar temperature it had great fruits, depth and balance. (2001 views)
Tasted by gharter on 1/31/2018 & rated 89 points: PNP. In a really good place. Very aromatic with green apple and citrus. a touch of oak on the nose. Medium body with green apple, pear, light spice, a touch of oak. Good crisp acidity, well balanced leading to a smooth finish. Considering how many chardonnays fall apart within 2-3 years, you would never guess this is coming on 5 years and still going strong. 1 bottle left and no hurry to get to it. (1732 views)
Tasted by t_moderne on 12/9/2017 & rated 92 points: What a difference a couple of years make with this wine.
I opened one about 2 years and 9 months ago, and found it a bit thin and acidic.
This bottle was different.
Pop and pour and tasted without food.
Golden straw color. Clear.
Nose offers green apple and white flowers.
Wonderful mouthfeel with a slightly oily viscosity.
Sekel pear and green apple with a hint of seashell. Bright citrus notes. Fresh and inviting.
Enjoyable. (1774 views)
Tasted by csimm on 11/24/2017 & rated 93 points: Drink now. This is performing very well, with the perfect amount of energy, grip, and flavor. A medium delivery of core yellow citrus fruit, with an encompassing mouthfeel that coats the palate nicely. A little short on the finish, but nothing to get too worked up about. (2853 views)
Tasted by Screameagle on 10/6/2017 & rated 91 points: Amazing quality for the low price. (1739 views)
Tasted by King of all vines on 8/4/2017 & rated 94 points: This wine is absolutely smoking right now and significantly better than the 15 I opened a couple of weeks ago. Blew me away. (1936 views)
Tasted by Beezc on 5/29/2017 & rated 92 points: Unbelievably good for the money (2153 views)
Tasted by msuwine on 5/11/2017 & rated 92 points: This wine has really filled and rounded out in the year since I tasted it last (89 points - 3/16). Light gold in color, medium in body, nose of lemon and brioche. Tastes of cantaloupe, grapefruit, and lemon meringue, with a steely and refreshing finish. 14.1% alcohol. It has lost enough of the butter and thickness to become really impressive, especially at this price point. (2627 views)
Tasted by Seafoam Manor on 3/3/2017 & rated 92 points: The score of the wine is a direct reflection of the price, but this is still a very good wine by almost any measure. The volume is turned up all over the place with this wine, but I think it does a good job of walking up to the line, but probably only sticking a toe over. Ripeness that at times can go to unripe pineapple, a good deal of vanilla and sweet baking spices from the oak, a slight touch of creamy malo notes, but doesn't go to butter. There is enough acid to hold it together and a bit of minerality on the finish, which grounds the wine, but at times can seem a little out of place. The alcohol is a little high, but just barely. Sort of a full-bodied profile that drinks as medium+. This is deliberately exuberant and clearly new world, but really good within the style. For the price, this packs a ton of punch. There is a certain fun in highly allocated $28 wines. (2782 views)
Tasted by budman on 1/29/2017 & rated 91 points: Incredible QPR!! (2540 views)
Tasted by Bellissimo on 11/27/2016: Don't drink a lot of CA chards so take this with a grain of sand. PnP. Served over several hours and with dinner. Kept chilled between pours. Nose shows waxy lemon, cream, bits of oak influence. Palate leads with light lemon, toasted hazelnuts, and more creamy influences. Decent acids, but still a round full chard. Well made, decent price CA chardonnay. (2204 views)
Tasted by amateurwino on 10/30/2016 & rated 88 points: A decent value chardonnay with buttery oaky notes and a fair amount of richness, without being over the top. Not complex but has decent acid to balance the ripeness; fine for the $30ish cost. (2129 views)
Tasted by csimm on 10/26/2016 & rated 92 points: Same as four months ago. PnP and served around 54 degrees. Drink now and over the next year or so. Ready right now. Drinks WAY above its original allocation price point ($25). 92-93 points. (3239 views)
Tasted by chefpete on 10/16/2016 & rated 90 points: Everyone loved it (2041 views)
Tasted by ChrisGiggles on 10/13/2016 & rated 92 points: The wine has a fairly deep yellow color with a hint of green in the glass, and light sediment in the bottle, probably from no lees stirring (confirmed in winemaker's notes). To me, this smells and tastes like lemon, with a light/medium body, smooth texture, and fairly crisp acidity. I only detect slight influence of oak, which makes sense given only 10% new oak was used (also in winemaker's notes). The wine finishes medium, with the flavor lingering for almost a minute, even when chilled in the refrigerator. Cheers! (1887 views)
Tasted by Stumpy on 9/18/2016: I did not rate as this bottle seemed to be aging prematurely, getting that darker caramel color and butterscotch overtone. Amazing the minute you smell the charts that are doing this you know it is grind able but hopelessly uninteresting. (1823 views)
Tasted by Paul Lin on 8/24/2016 & rated 85 points: I really love the R-M Thieriot Chardonnay. It's one of my favorite mid-level wines. However, the Sonoma Coast is a significant step down from the Thieriot. For one thing, the oak kind of sticks out. It just lays right on top of the wine and never seems to budge. While certainly more restrained than most California Chardonnays, this wine — with notes of lemon peel, yellow grapefruit, and pineapple — lacks the precision and balance that I have come to admire in R-M wines. It's a little coarse, which I suppose is why it's priced the way it is. (2281 views)
Tasted by Stumpy on 7/11/2016 & rated 88 points: Glad I started drinking as already getting the butterscotch color and oxidizing. Drinkable but not fresh and lively. (1953 views)
Tasted by pakabear on 6/27/2016 & rated 92 points: Day 2, again same flavors, Meyer lemon, cream, great acidity and citrus mineral flavors. There was a bit more butter after it's been open for 24 hours, but the wine he's held up very well and drinking great. (2063 views)
Tasted by csimm on 6/26/2016 & rated 92 points: Same as my previous notes from six months ago. Very user-friendly Chardonnay, medium-bodied, with a decent mid-palate and great mouthfeel. Texture/viscosity are very nice considering it's an appellation wine.

I did not decant. Served at cooler cellar temperature (54 degrees). Refrigerator temperature would just mute the flavors and is not recommended in my opinion.

Paired great with a curry chicken and peach chutney wrap. 92 solid points. (3174 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
