Tasted by maxmanx on 11/27/2021: This was almost "jammy"- should have kept my hands off of it for a few more years. (842 views)
Tasted by maxmanx on 9/6/2021: Interesting how these have taken on weight. I remember them being a light lighter. Still very enjoyable and a nice change from the normal set of grapes. (893 views)
Tasted by dougie on 11/27/2019 & rated 93 points: Just amazed by how good this is. Fruit was front and center at the start. Drank over 5 hours. Bright fruit integrated into a more complex wine over time. My favorite varietal from Sandlands. (1314 views)
Tasted by maxmanx on 10/6/2019: Slightly heavier than a Pinot, but could be fooled in a blind tasting. Plenty of life left. (1343 views)
Tasted by rama on 8/24/2019: Light rusty strawberry colored. Savory, red fruited, saline. Medium acid and creamy bodied, long mineral finish. Very good now, though no rush to drink these. (1327 views)
Tasted by yhn on 12/12/2018: Bought this to pour for some specific people and to see how it's evolved, based on how impressively it showed on release. Extremely disappointed! Simple sweet fruit with confectionery oak. One note, devoid of interest or flaw. Did not evolve over hours or days. Pretty sure that's just how this particular bottle showed at this particular time. 70 pts (1619 views)
Tasted by ucbeau on 11/11/2017: Wonderfully fresh and light bodied, but not lacking in complexity. Wild red berries, dusty soil, hints of tobacco. Great stuff! (2090 views)
Tasted by rc@ughey on 9/6/2017 & rated 90 points: Very satisfying again, for what is becoming my favorite CA producer. Bright red fruits, impeccably balanced with nice acidity and non-fruit flavors. Gulpable. (2103 views)
Tasted by Bakerbd on 7/7/2017 & rated 93 points: Effusively floral nose, strawberry-rhubarb palate, med - body, med + acid (2216 views)
Tasted by Richard P Howden on 6/21/2017 & rated 89 points: A nice afternoon wine, light and flavorful. Tasty but not deep. (2176 views)
Tasted by Jahull03 on 6/18/2017: Chilled this on an unbearably hot day to accompany roasted chicken with fennel. Delicious- savory, raspberry, touch of funk and ample acid. (1965 views)
Tasted by tomlee on 3/23/2017 & rated 91 points: Light red in color. Almost translucent. 12.8% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, roses and minerals. Light body with refreshing acidity. Lithe, bright and fresh. Pomegranate, rhubarb and bing cherries on the palate. The finish is long and earthy. This closely resembles a Beaujolais or Village level Burgundy. So much to like here. Drink over the next several years. (1838 views)
Tasted by dougie on 2/26/2017 & rated 93 points: Beautiful! (1575 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 8/22/2016 & rated 90 points: A private dinner (Restaurant Jungsik **, New York City, NY, USA): From the Bohan vineyard, gravelly loam soils, vines planted at 1,400 feet, three miles from the Pacific, 5 barrels produced. Very light strawberry colour; light and elegant, supple and silky, floral, spicy minerality, creamy, bears a close resemblance to a young Pinot Noir from the Ahr valley (think: Meyer-Nákel G), very gentle tannins, transparent, slightly tight, good length. Charming and serious at the same time, this is wine of elegance and precision. (2548 views)
Tasted by Anthonut on 5/26/2016 & rated 91 points: First time trying Trousseau and if tasted blind I would have said Pinot. Very refreshing wine. Bright fruit with herbal undertones. (1958 views)
Tasted by Seafoam Manor on 4/28/2016 & rated 92 points: I really loved this. Pale ruby color, that makes you think Beaujolais, but a nose that takes you right to Burgundy. Blind you would never guess that this is Californian. The initial attack is very red fruit heavy with cherries, rhubarb, pomegranates and strawberry, but there is an underlying herbaceous quality that almost goes as far as rosemary, but it really holds the whole thing together. The tannins are fine and well integrated and while not overly acidic, it is present and lends balance. The finish is medium in length, but quite complex. Great value and the only real flaw of this wine is only getting an allocation of two bottles per year. This would be very versatile with food and should pair well with heavier fish, anything with wings and pork. (2174 views)
Tasted by James Kim on 4/13/2016 & rated 93 points: From Bohan Vineyard. Decanted for 1.5h. Pale ruby almost a dark rose. A- Beautiful herbs, flowers, earth, cherry, strawberry. P - Condensed flowers, red fruit, earth all simultaneously. Almost light bodied, ethereal, elegant with mild tannins and a bit of grapefruit pith on back end. F- Fruit, flowers, earth and herbs with a lingering grapefruit finish. Just really nice. (962 views)
Tasted by Martin Redmond on 3/24/2016 & rated 92 points: Bing cherry color with appealing and lifted pomegranate, cherry aromas and floral aromas complemented by hints of clay, and mint. On the palate it's light-bodied,refreshing and well structured with an elegant, savory, and alluring character. It shows pomegranate, plum, cherry, and baking spice flavors with a very giving finish. (2415 views)
Tasted by scott davis on 2/28/2016 & rated 92 points: Light ruby red, with high-toned red berry, cherry, and rose scents. On the palate, vibrant strawberry and wild cherry flavors slowly become sweeter with air, and pick up an allspice note adding complexity and nuance. Shows very good depth and expanse of flavor, but comes off as elegant and poised, finishing with silky tannins. Delicious. (2390 views)
Tasted by dougie on 12/20/2015 & rated 92 points: Loved by all at Emilies dinner. (2237 views)
Tasted by *Vine* on 12/3/2015: CA Trousseau Fest (AP Milwaukee): Medium-light ruby, nose of funky raspberry, strawberry, herbaceous earth and an impression of earthy minerals. Medium body. Spicy raspberry fruit tinged with minerals, finished with smooth, sweet tannins. Absolutely yummy. (2747 views)
Tasted by mattsix on 11/25/2015: This is very very good. (2925 views)
Tasted by tbone on 11/13/2015: Fantastic wine. Light, earthy and great with food. Loved it. (2032 views)
Tasted by LittleLegs on 11/7/2015 & rated 90 points: A smooth, delicious red. Berries and currants (1892 views)
Tasted by rc@ughey on 10/3/2015 & rated 90 points: So delicious. Light-to-medium bodied, highly fragrant and floral, with red berries, earth, and bright herbs. Nice acids. Super drinkable and balanced. (2143 views)

Sandlands

Producer website
Sandlands is the personal project of Tegan and Olivia Passalacqua. The line-up encompasses the forgotten classic California varieties, primarily grown in decomposed granite (sand), from regions and vineyards that have been farmed for many generations but have remained the outliers of California viticulture.

Primarily head-trained, dry-farmed and own rooted, the vineyards we work with harken back to California’s roots of exploration, wonder, and hard work.

Trousseau

Trousseau (also called "Bastardo") is a dark-skinned wine grape originally from Jura, northeastern France, but which has made its way over the centuries to vineyards in northwestern Spain and various parts of Portugal. As one might expect of a well-traveled variety with a long history, it goes by various names, the most notable of which are Bastardo (Portugal), Merenzao and Verdejo Negro (Spain).

Wines made from Trousseau typically have a deep cherry-red color and flavors redolent of dark red berries and other forest fruits. They also tend to be powerfully alcoholic, thanks to the prolific natural sugars of the Trousseau berry and their correspondingly high potential alcohol.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
