| Community Tasting Notes (average 88.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 23 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by whudock on 9/1/2021 & rated 89 points: good but nothing special (627 views) | | Tasted by Ebrim on 2/3/2017: No proper notes - camomille, oak, apples. Very good quality, 88p (1785 views) | | Tasted by ohne_musik on 11/26/2016 & rated 80 points: Overwhelming oak. Who wants that in their cali SB? Unfortunate, because the underlying wine is decently made. (1795 views) | | Tasted by jzebrack on 10/21/2016 & rated 85 points: This is a Sauvignon Blanc for those that like oaky California Chardonnay. One pays a very significant premium for the name of the winery. And it is much more of an oak taste compared to other S Blanc's. (1752 views) | | Tasted by jrhonda160 on 8/29/2016 & rated 86 points: Pretty simple, great wine. Lots of tart pears, needs to be cold for best results (2124 views) | | Tasted by jrhonda160 on 6/19/2016 & rated 88 points: Another great pool wine. Cool, crisp, so Napa.... (1564 views) | | Tasted by jrhonda160 on 5/30/2016 & rated 95 points: Great white wine by the pool. Couldn't ask for more! (818 views) | | Tasted by Francois Le Mouel on 1/24/2016 & rated 90 points: Tropical fruits, fresh and grassy. Will be lovely with food. (1210 views) | | Tasted by Woodway Mike on 1/13/2016: Paired very well with stir fry. (1353 views) | | Tasted by Buck naked on 12/24/2015 & rated 87 points: Nic SB, nose of wet stone, taste of stainless and honeysuckle. Would be an excellent summer wine. (1025 views) | | Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 9/1/2015 & rated 92 points: This pale yellow offering from Stag's Leap delivers a degree of complexity commensurate with its above-average price. Nutmeg and chervil are beautifully balanced by succulent peach, apple and citrus on both the nose and palate. Crisply acidic and without noticeable alcohol (despite being listed as 14.5%), it builds in the middle and closes with a lengthy citrus and thyme-laden finish. This Sauvignon Blanc highlights everything that the grape can do. Those who appreciate an herbal/fruit tug-of-war will enjoy it immensely. Drink now-2017. (1192 views) | | Tasted by MicklethePickle on 8/24/2015 & rated 90 points: Very pale straw color. Has some legs. Fresh melon, lemongrass. On the creamy side. Pretty, elegant flavors, light on its feet but with a good core of fruit. Very enjoyable, nicely balanced. 4-12-16-8: 90/100. (931 views) | | Tasted by tcarter on 6/28/2015 & rated 91 points: Crisp, light sauv blanc with citrus fruits and a little minerality. Nice summer drinker with a light picnic lunch. I paired it with Pork Chile Verde over brown rice and it was great! (998 views) |
| Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Producer website NOTE: This is easily confused with Stags' Leap Winery, but Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is a different winery. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is considered one of Napa Valley's first-growths. "We were founded by Warren Winiarski and his family in 1970 and are best known for our estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignons — CASK 23, S.L.V., and FAY. Over the years, our wines have become some of the most highly regarded and collected wines worldwide. They are fashioned to express classic elegance, structure, and ageability, and to reflect the place in which they are grown." Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was known only in the Napa Valley until the now-famous 1976 Paris Tasting, when Winiarski's 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon, the first wine produced at the new winery, bested four top-ranked Bordeaux entries, including first-growths Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Haut-Brion. The tasting landed Stag's Leap Wine Cellars squarely among the ranks of the world's most noteworthy Cabernet producers and placed Winiarski among the ranks of world's most respected winemakers. It also fundamentally transformed how Californian wines were viewed worldwide [StagsLeap See details here].Sauvignon Blanc Varietal CharacterUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
