Tasted by IanAltman on 5/12/2022 & rated 92 points: Still drinking beautifully. PnP, a little heat went away after 20 minutes. Dark, almost opaque. Fruit forward. Dark cherry, leather. Surprised at how nice this was after seeing other notes. (547 views)
Tasted by vinorsk on 7/15/2019 & rated 90 points: Delicous. Still big and bold, full of black fruit, well integrated tannins and moderate acidity. You wouldn't guess the age or price point given how well it's drinking right now. (1455 views)
Tasted by vinorsk on 11/18/2017: Drinking great in November 2017. Rich, balanced medium acidity and tannins. Fruit is still solid and there is a little earthiness. (2054 views)
Tasted by alamoave on 4/18/2016 & rated 87 points: OK for the big extracted fruit crowd. Tannins standing up so far. Drink or hold for up to 2 years. (3166 views)
Tasted by jperez68 on 9/10/2015 & rated 93 points: Great juice here boys, berries plums, chocolate really soft tannins to deal with a smooth finish. I have 1 bottle left hope you guys enjoy this critics say the 2012 is even better. (3448 views)
Tasted by CieloVista on 8/14/2014 & rated 90 points: Dark ruby red with light aromas of dark fruit. Rich, smooth and luscious on the palate with nice fruit forward flavors. (3788 views)
Tasted by John McCabe on 6/16/2014 & rated 90 points: Pleasant enough but tasted alongside the '03 Duhart Milon which was completely superior in every way. This cab is a bit light and fruit-forward and not the last word on complexity. It's likable but pretty forgettable. Not really worth the price of admission.

Following the above initial assessment, this is much better on the 2nd day. This is now fuller, richer, more penetrating and persistent, with a suave character. The fruit tones are still a bit simple, but more complete and evolved. (3541 views)
Tasted by brianofthevine on 4/10/2014 & rated 90 points: Black cherry and chocolate. (1660 views)
Tasted by CieloVista on 2/8/2014 & rated 88 points: Deep ruby red with aromas of dark berries and some vanilla. It rich in dark berries, blueberries and a little jammy with a bigger than expected finish. (2436 views)
Tasted by Zumboto on 7/24/2013 & rated 89 points: A bit thin for a cab. Smooth texture and soft but lacks complexity. Expected more... (3129 views)
Tasted by jfurey21 on 3/9/2013 & rated 90 points: enjoyable. Have a spice cut and I enjoyed the tobacco notes. Nothing interesting enough to rate it higher. (3394 views)
Tasted by Mrp2008 on 2/23/2013 & rated 92 points: First ever Montagna. Great quality fruit, really nice finish. Drink now or hold (2699 views)
Tasted by kmichels on 2/13/2013 & rated 96 points: Absolutely spectacular! (1598 views)
Tasted by mattyboy_ on 1/8/2013 & rated 88 points: Not what I was expecting. I thought this would have a similar fruit profile and quality as David Arthur. This didn't taste like mountain (Pritchard Hill) fruit to me, it was more ripe and alcoholic, even a bit jammy. I would imagine both wineries work with basically the same raw materials so maybe it's my preference in style then.

Can be drunk now but could sit for a few more years, can't say if there will be much improvement. (2752 views)
Tasted by robmillis on 12/31/2012 & rated 91 points: Deep currant color, blackberry, blueberry and vanilla nose. A variety of flavors as it opens up. Raspberry jam, blueberry, vanilla, eucalyptus, currant, with a balance of oak and earth always present. A very well rounded cab. Decanted about an hour to start, four hours before finishing, started beautifully and opened up even more beautifully with each hour. Drinking very well now, even better in a few years, could keep a long time but no need to. (2538 views)
Tasted by uncle al on 12/23/2012 & rated 92 points: A very nice cab with fruit but not sweet. Complex and big cab. Nice finish. (1877 views)
Tasted by Trolson on 12/12/2012 & rated 91 points: Big. Chewy, rich and very satisfying. First time with this vineyard. I will return! (1744 views)
Tasted by uncle al on 11/29/2012 & rated 91 points: Very dark in color with a great nose of dark fruit. On the palate it is dark fruit, chewy and full bodied. A very nice finish. I thought this was a great wine for the price. Highly recommend if you like jammy dark fruit. (1855 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 11/22/2012 & rated 92 points: This wine is EXCELLENT for the QPR. A very rich, glycerine dense wine made up mostly of Cab. Cellartracker has this one labeled as Oakville, but I think this is actually Pritchard Hill, elevated 1100 to 1300. Combo of grapes from Cassadores, Montagna and La Pressa vineyards. On the initial nose, you can certainly tell that this is NOT Napa floor fruit. The smell is everything from vanilla to blueberry to chalky mineral and starting to show a little age I think. On the palate, this is a dense, inky wine. Candied cherries on one sip, blueberry on another, limestone...giving way to chocolate and oak barrel. This one finished rather big with a little bit of eucalyptus and heat and some fairly firm tannin. Surprisingly this one is YOUNG, but is already showing a predisposition to the "dark side," which is wonderful. This one will improve with bottle aging 5-7 years, sweet spot will probably be in 2015, with it heading over the hill around 2018-19. Will probably be a solid 94 then. (1999 views)
Tasted by Richgoza on 10/26/2012 & rated 91 points: Jammy and delicious (2022 views)
Tasted by Yack Man on 8/2/2012 & rated 89 points: I first had this wine at the Chop House Restaurant in Napa Ca. and I loved it! A supple dry-yet-fruity medium-to full body Cab. On the palate blueberry, with dusty tannins, silky with good structure that leaves a pleasing impression. This wine drinks like a cab twice its price, absolutely lovely. (3035 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 7/21/2012 & rated 91 points: Same as on 03/25/12 and 03/20/12. Great stuff. (2655 views)
Tasted by Javachip on 7/21/2012 & rated 90 points: 14.9% alc. Inky garnet black color. Intense bouquet of freshly made blackberry or blackcurrant jam, flinty minerals and charcoal. A bit of a stewed quality. Full bodied, outstanding. (2755 views)
Tasted by jeffm_fla on 5/3/2012 & rated 91 points: Big Napa cab flavors and firm structure. Very good wine at an amazing price. Another great call from Groezinger's in Yountville. (2671 views)
Tasted by Racer117 on 3/25/2012 & rated 91 points: Same as on 03/20/12. Very good again and a big hit at a party. (2741 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
