Community Tasting Notes (average 91 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 26 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by loloFR on 10/31/2021 & rated 92 points: Bressan style but super balanced and at its peak (924 views)
Tasted by kronfeld on 2/4/2019: Cherry candy and menthol nose; bizarre herbal taste. More interesting than pleasurable. (1776 views)
Tasted by oldcorke on 11/12/2016 & rated 94 points: Opaque purple black to the rim with faint brown edges. Seductive, subtle aromatic hints of earth, deep dark black fruits, rose hips, subtle dry cured beef, and a touch of port like ripeness. Powerful black, tarry fruit flavors with a sincere flinty edge of minerality, well balanced with substantial tannin. This has an extraordinary concentration and is yet lithe, and agile. There is a ferocious, electric acidity that almost requires food with some fat to properly enjoy. Quite neutral oak leaving no distraction from the wine's important qualities. This 06 is maybe a half step behind the 04 but is very very good. Recommend 2 hour decant. (3613 views)
Tasted by Finare Vinare on 9/10/2016 & rated 93 points: Even better now than a few years ago. Fabulous complexity on the distinctly un-fruity nose. Stemmy geranium, green herbal notes, ground pepper and brown spice, meat stock, pipe tobacco, earth and leather, old cedar wood, balsamico, tomato purée, dried sour cherries... there's a lot going on here really, every note coming through with great lift and definition. The palate packs impressive density and structure for a pinot noir, with big chewy tannins and high acidity driving the long finish. Highly enjoyable as a food companion (reindeer, funnel chanterelles, chard, cream) and very Bressan in style. Can go for several years more. (4446 views)
Tasted by palbe on 8/15/2015 & rated 88 points: This is still quite deeply coloured with a nose dominated by slightly stewed cherries, ink and wood. The oak is a bit protruding on the palate, but there is plenty of stuffing here to buffer it. Comes off as rather rich and deep for a Pinot, and clearly from a warmer climate, but not overtly sweet and with a distinct Italian signature. Ideally I'd wait another five years for the wood to calm down. (4516 views)
Tasted by OttawaB on 8/2/2015 & rated 90 points: very enjoyable. Nice finish, medium bodied, good acidity. Can't remember more details. Just that I really enjoyed it. (3960 views)
Tasted by williamturck on 4/24/2015: Reminds me a bit of cab franc with green pepper in the nose. (3691 views)
Tasted by Krassens on 2/25/2015 & rated 89 points: Complex nose, with green spices, sausage, smoke, cellar, faint berries. On the palate green pepper, cloves, fennel, but also a quite unpleasant tinge mid/late . Might be over time? (1931 views)
Tasted by TannicBeast on 1/4/2015 & rated 94 points: This bottle was given to me by Fulvio in 2012. Medium (+) ruby in intensity, with a little garnet on the rim. Slightly hazy - as it is unfiltered. The nose is clean, complex, aromatic and surprisingly youthful, with black cherries, currant, sweet spices, stone fruit and herbal and floral aromas. The palate is dry but with rich, sweet cherry fruit. Medium (+) acidity and tannins. The alcohol is medium at 13.5%. This wine is well balanced, flavorful, medium (+) bodied and has a long, clean and fresh finish. This Pinot is made in pretty much its own style. It blows the doors off a Burgundy in a similar price range, without being overdone like some Central CA Pinots can be. This is as a result of extended maceration in metal, two years of aging in large old oak barrels and extended bottle aging before release. It is a complex, idiosyncratic wine, which continued to evolve hours after being opened. It seems much younger and fresher than its stated age. It stood up nicely to slow-cooked braised beef short ribs with a very rich sauce which would have overpowered most other Pinots. Well worth seeking out. Drink now or hold through at least 2017. (2041 views)
Tasted by palbe on 2/1/2014 & rated 87 points: Densely coloured for a Pinot. Lightly floral cherries trimmed in wood. Good concentration, with firm tannins on the finish. Will hopefully gain a little more complexity with further bottle age. (2194 views)
Grymt gott. (2431 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 7/11/2013: Apparently 2006 IS the current vintage. Evolved, spicy, earthy, kinda crazy. Well, its still alive, and certainly tense and dense. Kinda crazy but a crazy goodness here. Major sassafrass I am being told. And sure, that is there. But darn tasty all the same. (2764 views)
Tasted by Bernt Olav on 3/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Her var det kirsebær i bøtter og spann! En totalt anerledes pinot enn det jeg er vant med. Hvis man er ute etter Burgundylike pinot så blir man skuffet, men hvis man er glad i Toscanske viner vil man like denne veldig godt. Mye kraft, syre, bra konsentrasjon, integrert fat. Var fint følge til trøffelsalami og parmesan. (2882 views)
Tasted by Billy Swan on 2/16/2013: This is in a really good place right now. Sure, it's still one serious MF, but I feel that it has settled down a little and gives a little bit more pinosity. The cherries are still very concentrated, so is the geranium, the violets and the herbs, but there's also a sense of forest floor and almost garam masala. Acidity is bright and makes the wine quite light on it's feet. It's just as good with food as without. I love this wine. (2808 views)
(1936 views)
Tasted by MrBjorn on 1/3/2013 & rated 92 points: Körbärskärnor, lite jordgubbar, the, jord och lite julkryddor. Komplext. Härligt motstånd och lång smak. Riktigt bra! (1798 views)
Tasted by Jensson on 4/13/2012 & rated 92 points: Amazing stuff. Top notch Italian craftsmanship. Very dark and concentrated, not very PN-like at all, more leaning towards Tuscany than Friuli.

2004 maybe slightly better according to bad memory. (2412 views)
Tasted by Billy Swan on 3/12/2012: Pinot Nero wouldn't be my first, second or even seventh guess if i had this serious Brother Tucker blind. It's dark in colour and the super-concentrated cherries are also dark, so is the earth, and the herbs, and the violets. Acidity is pretty bright, though. Pinosity is close to zero, but this is an intense wine that I like very much, although the 2004 was a notch or two better. But in a couple of years, I can see this one develop into something close the 2004. Outstanding with a little plus for the utter no nonsense, no compromise attitude. (2182 views)
Tasted by Mr.T on 3/11/2012 & rated 92 points: A very concentrated Pinot. When opened I detected a hint of pinosity in a spicy way. It quickly disappeared and left a dense smell with cherries, juniper(wood), tobacco, warm earth and sloan (both in the smell and in it's astringent way). (2210 views)
Tasted by Finare Vinare on 12/20/2011 & rated 92 points: Geranium. Tobacco. Earth. Triplo concentrato cherries. That's about it. Amazing wine. (2751 views)
