Tasted by nobluda on 4/14/2024 & rated 92 points: 90% Pinot noir, 10% Chardonnay Contains 50% reserve wine; Degorgement: 10/2022
(546 views)
Tasted by grafstrb on 3/16/2024: -- popped and poured --
-- tasted non-blind over 1.5 hrs. --
-- April 2022 disgorgement --
-- 90% Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay --

NOSE: light and airy, with mint and apples; first pour took-on a slight autolytic note after 15 min. in the glass.

BODY: light

TASTE: dry and crisp; speaks strongly of its cepage. I like this style, and consider this a fantastic QPR at just under $50. (613 views)
Tasted by Siegelaa on 12/27/2023 & rated 92 points: A brief taste.
Quite lean shy and reticent out of the gate.
Citrus, green apple and wet rocks dominate the nose after popping the cork. Quite lean yet pure, focused on the palate.

30 mins later in bordeaux glass gains significant weight, displaying more depth and richness on the palate, adding a touch of fresh pastry, roundness and generous mousse, while still showing restraint and focus.

A very pure and elegant style of wine.
Give it some time in the glass, let it warm up.
Based on performance, it needs more bottle age.
Open in advance. (961 views)
Tasted by Torchy on 10/14/2023 & rated 92 points: Light golden camphor colored. The nose has classic apples and fresh fruit. Some nuts, mulberry, brioche, yeast, and sweet pastries. The palate has the taste of fruit soda, malt, sweet fruit, and apple core. The wine is rich and full-bodied with good length. (1164 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 8/25/2023: Missed the disgorgement date. Think it was 2022. Perpetual of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay. No dose. Racy. Apple, mulled strawberry and a good dose of wet rock with some lemony acid. I liked it but this needs to be without a chill to open it up. A transparent and clean style. Enjoyed it. (1508 views)
Tasted by Wine_Poobah on 8/18/2023 & rated 93 points: Complex apple and floral aroma. Candied red apple and citrus flavors with a red berry finish. Some oxidation character throughout - notes of banana? The barrel influence is apparent. Nice texture and weight. Unique character.

I can’t help but wonder if a touch of dosage would help tie everything up in a neat little package. Regardless, this is a “buy” for me. (1142 views)
Tasted by bps2266 on 7/26/2023: pours gold with a thick mousse. settles to a very vinous glass with reticent fine bead. nose shows a lot of rubber up front which blows off and gives red apple and cranberry. unique in that there is really no yeasty component. palate is light with a fine, fuzzy feel and good high toned acidity reflecting the zero dosage. very tense. more red delicious apple flavor, kumquat, and strong mineral. very clean, very mineral finish. a good example of the brute zero style. (1104 views)
Tasted by ggroebli on 4/6/2023 & rated 94 points: Feinperlig, leicht rosé, dunkle Frucht (1234 views)
Tasted by R Z on 2/25/2023 & rated 93 points: Pale yellow with pink at the rim, delicious, rounded, pure fruit, not overly dry, moderate effervescence, primarily pinot noir (90%). Knew I had this for at least 5 years, and Cellartracker confirmed that I purchased this bottle in December 2017. Disgorged in 2015, a blend of 2009-10-11-12. Stored in non-temperature controlled Brooklyn apartment for over 5 years, a fine example of a mature grower champagne, from a talented wine maker. (1159 views)
Tasted by Decanting Queen on 1/27/2023 & rated 92 points: Despite the obvious lack of dosage this is really very nice. The first glass seemed a bit austere but as it got some air and warmed up it just got better and better. Intense nose apples and stones and something spicy. Green apple and lemons on the palate and some ginger notes that I doubt I would have picked out if I hadn’t seen another TN mentioning but now I can’t untaste it. D/g 2018 (2265 views)
Tasted by Vas19 on 1/15/2023 & rated 91 points: 11/18 disgorgement. Sherry notes add complexity with a line of lemony acid to add freshness. Maybe a touch less depth than the blanc de noirs. Very nice, lacking just a touch of elegance. (1334 views)
Tasted by jviz on 1/1/2023 & rated 92 points: Excellent showing tonight. My first time to taste this producer. It’s medium gold in the glass with quite a lot of orchard fruit. Tending toward a slightly more oxidative profile, this was impressive to me. Excellent ripeness obviates the need for dosage in this case. Cool wine and ready to drink now. (1344 views)
Tasted by danchaq on 12/26/2022: Possibly the most enjoyable bottle so far over the festive period. Dry but not austere. Really good balance between body and minerality. (977 views)
Tasted by stanqwash on 12/12/2022 & rated 93 points: Drank over two days. I’ve been socking away Lahaye bottles for a few years but this is the first one I’ve had. Terrific right out of the gate and maybe even better on day 2. Layers of crisp acidity, baking spice, apple, lemon zest. Not the most complex but extremely well balanced. Drinking superbly well at the moment. Disgorged 11/19. (1032 views)
Tasted by LW31 on 10/30/2022: Disgorged Feb 2022, not sure of base year. But excellent showing. Great depth and complexity. A bit of ginger spice to it. Terrific with food. (1189 views)
Tasted by grafstrb on 9/12/2022: -- popped and poured --
-- tasted non-blind over a couple hours --
-- 90% Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay --
-- Nov. 2020 disgorgement --

NOSE: light; crisp; apple; petrichor. Clean and "fresh".

BODY: polished brass color with faint auburn hue; bead is quite active; light bodied.

TASTE: dry, but still fruity; liking drinking flavorful air --- the mouthfeel is amazingly light and airy; *not* rich, heavy, yeasty, bready, or oxidative; green pear, and a cool little hit of mid-palate cinnamon. This no dosage wine appears to be gradually fleshing-out with bottle age, as compared to a couple bottles we had about one year ago. Excellent, provided one likes the relatively austere, no dosage, grower style, which I do. (1079 views)
Tasted by NickA on 5/18/2022 & rated 91 points: 2015 base, 2018 disgorgement. Was glad of the extra ageing, which gave the richness and savour of a sherry whilst the wine retained the slightly nervy energy of a Brut Nature. Super tasty, and masterfully on the cusp of sweet/sour, but lacked stature on the midpalate, so ultimately only a good wine, not a great one. (2029 views)
Tasted by justintime97 on 5/5/2022 & rated 91 points: Nice champagne, not as complex or leesy as I'd like. (1840 views)
Tasted by r.o.man on 3/14/2022 & rated 93 points: Disgorgement 12/20. The wine has aged beautifully to a smooth and soft cloud of delicious Bouzy terroir. So light, just dancing on the palate, yet so tasteful and refreshing. So ripe almost sweet but never over the top, impeccable balance, masterful focus, clean and pure and full of life and energy. Amazing as always. Biodynamic, handmade, almost no sulfur, very rare and truly fantastic Champagne. Benoit Lahaye is truly a master winemaker. (1797 views)
Tasted by JVG on 2/17/2022: No disgorgement date listed, but I bought this bottle in October 2013, so it's not a spring chicken.

medium gold color, with quite an energetic bead. On the nose, the fruit aromas are of bruised apple and pear, perhaps revealing the time in bottle. But there's also something more tropical—guava, maybe, or perhaps a whiff of pineapple? Then there is some almond and cinnamon/nutmeg baking spice. With some air, the bouquet is actually quite luscious and sweet, which is interesting for a Champagne with no dosage that I expect to be bone dry and very acidic.

On the palate, it is indeed a bit of a different story, with the fruit shifting to a more citrus profile of lemon and lime and maybe even a bit of grapefruit. But there's still some of the pineapple richness too, as well as some nuttiness—though less of the spice. It does also have an element of greenness, with a stemmy or leafy note adding a sort of earthy side to the finish. But it doesn't come off as being underripe or punishing. And in fact, the acid doesn't really jump out at me any more than with a regular Brut. The lack of dosage just changes it into a more athletic, angular wine. But it's still well balanced, and was clearly expertly made with excellent fruit.

I probably waited too long to open this, but it's still drinking very well. I wouldn't say it's truly worth the high price, but Champagne is what it is, so you either pay or you don't drink any. (1916 views)
Tasted by grafstrb on 10/21/2021: -- popped and poured --
-- tasted non-blind over a couple hours --
-- 90% Pinot Noir, 10% Chardonnay --
-- Nov. '20 disgorgement --

NOSE: red apple; medium-light intensity; not a whole lot going on.

BODY: very light salmon color; light bodied.

TASTE: incredibly dry; light red berries mixed with apple; no dosage, and it shows --- very austere, even a bit much for me, although I do nonetheless like it. Ash likes it, too, and would pay about what I did for it. Hoping to see some development with age. (2357 views)
Tasted by SuperSomm on 9/21/2021: Pale lemon colour. Medium nose with yellow apples, lemon, toast, bread, biscuit and wet stone with hints of leather. Medium taste of yellow apples, lemon, toast, bread, biscuit, walnuts and wet stone. Small and lively bubbles. High acidity. Medium body. A very good Brut Nature that still has some body. Needed 15 min in the glass to open. Drink now or over the next five years. Goes well as an aperitif, or with fish or shellfish. (496 views)
Tasted by vinkeger on 6/5/2021 & rated 91 points: Relativt kompleks nese i en ubeskjeden stil. Full av oksidative aromaer av nedfallsfrukt, kamfer, etc. God balanse og lengde. Ikke for alle. (2618 views)
Tasted by brooklynguy on 5/12/2021: Disgorged in April 2019, which I think means that the base wines are from 16 and 17. This was absolutely top quality wine over two nights. Spicy gingery ripe yellow plum and red currant fruit on night 1, a fine bead and silky texture, and a saline chalky finish. Night two is more harmonious, and the chalk and salt permeate everything in the wine. This isn't one of those super-intense champagnes, it's a suave and gentle expression, but with great density of flavor and aroma. Consistently one of the best Brut Nature blanc de noirs wines that I know. (3015 views)
Tasted by NoahCap on 5/4/2021: A really nice "basic" Champagne from a well-regarded grower-producer. Impressive for an entry bottling made of mostly Grand Cru Pinot. I am impressed by its depth, which is almost certainly a result of the inclusion of a decent amount of reserve wine. There is a nuttiness, yeastiness, a chewiness, and for lack of a better word, a darkness, that I don't usually associate with young NV Champagnes, and especially Brut Natures. It's an interesting question whether this bottling is what it should be; the NV Brut Nature label would lead one to expect a bright, light, acidic bubbly that is bursting with energy. I got something a bit more reserved (pun intended), thoughtful, rich. I enjoy this style more, actually, so I'm not complaining. Not cheap at $60, but worth it. (2388 views)

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of consistent quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France.
Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
