Tasted by JGA10902 on 1/2/2021 & rated 90 points: Greeted with a varietally correct bouquet the wine leads into a fully mature medium bodied cabernet, exhibiting all of those characteristics. Shows excellent balance with a lighter finish. The wine goes well with lighter bodied entrees or by itself. Not a massive wine, just a very pleasant wine to drink. I would say that this wine has very little upside left in aging but is very enjoyable right now. Will probably hold for another 3 years or so, shows very little sign of aging, no browning in its coloration. Legs show medium glycerol character. (892 views)
Tasted by The Bugle on 2/2/2019 & rated 88 points: pleasant and unremarkable. reliable. drinkable. red fruit. not too over extracted or overly sweet. a dependable day to day wine. (1648 views)
(3158 views)
Tasted by Tiderunner22 on 11/11/2017 & rated 89 points: Balanced wine with polished tannins on a medium frame.
Fruit is upfront with oak in the background and not intrusive. Finish is medium in length with makes this wine an enjoyable easy drinker with or without food. (3371 views)
Tasted by SLB83 on 9/16/2017 & rated 89 points: Nice wine.
Dark red with a hint of purple, I thought it would be darker.
At first, very closed and one dimensional. After some time in the glass much nicer.
Cherries and more ripe red fruit and lots of oak on the nose.
On the palate very soft tannins, I thought they would be stronger and it makes me think this has about 3 years left on it. Very sweet oak/cedar. Ripe red fruit.
As Californian Cabernet Sauvignons go, this is quite gentle, but still full of flavour and all the characteristics you'd expect of a Cali CS.
We're having it with a rib eye on the bone with chestnut mushrooms and green beans. (3669 views)
Tasted by rossi.wine on 8/25/2017 & rated 88 points: Oaky, creamy nose with lots of dark fruit, candied fruit, notes of cedar, spices. On the palate very polished and smooth, not much depth or length. Pretty sweet and ripe, but overall well balanced. Drink or keep. 87-89 (3529 views)
Tasted by sdwineguru on 3/8/2017 & rated 91 points: Blind tasting 4 Napa vs 4 Alex Val Cabernet '06-'14, $21-$125. Big win '14 Frei Bros Reserve $21. Cab nose, mint, cocoa; mid-body; good Cabernet extract; long fruity finish. (3221 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
