Tasted by tthorn on 5/10/2011 & rated 91 points: Excellent as always. Pineapple, acidity, and some moderate oak. (3609 views)
Tasted by eastover on 2/21/2011: Jill and Linda share the bottle with John and I in Philly with the boys overnight. Last of the vintage and enjoyed by them both. (3592 views)
Tasted by Meerlust on 2/19/2011 & rated 91 points: Light, golden color. The nose is moderately intense with lovely vanilla, citrus fruit, and spice. In the mouth, this wine is nicely balanced with vanilla, marshmallow, apple, citrus, and spice. There is enough acidity to pull everything together in a taut package and enough balance to make this wine seem light on its feet. Overall, I really enjoyed this for its subtle nuance and balanced acidity. It was much better than my first bottle. (3586 views)
Tasted by mlawren1 on 12/5/2010 & rated 87 points: Very pale, hardly any coolo. Nice green apple with a bit of citrus acidity. Cuts with a hint of butter on the finish (3734 views)
Tasted by rben_mvp on 5/11/2010 & rated 89 points: Drinking nicely. I think I have had better Eric Kent Chardonnay. I didn't really take great notes. (3906 views)
Tasted by vanpe003 on 4/7/2010 & rated 90 points: First bottle of Eric Kent chardonnay that I've tried, and I like the style. Good fruit depth with a nice (but not overwhelming) dollop of oak and a bit of resinous character that gives it some complexity and is also prominent on a long finish. I gave my other bottle of this away....if I had more I'd feel great about drinking it now or holding for 12-18 months. (2341 views)
Tasted by meatman on 10/7/2009 & rated 88 points: Don't remember any specifics about this one. Just remember it was good, not great. Has plenty of oak but it is not thick and buttery. Nice core of fruit to balance the oak. I do remember liking the '06 RRV much better a while ago. (2646 views)
Tasted by scott davis on 8/20/2009 & rated 90 points: Checking in on these after a year. Consistent experience from last August, however, the mouth feel is somewhat more round with additional mid-range flavors filling in. The finish remains medium-long and crisp. (2681 views)
Tasted by KMKCMT on 8/3/2009: this bottle continues to please us...for the price, we love it... (2825 views)
Tasted by mgl on 7/11/2009 & rated 92 points: fabulous (2772 views)
Tasted by MCUBEB on 5/27/2009 & rated 83 points: Overoaked with high acidity. Doesn't. .do much for me (2938 views)
Tasted by ian95762 on 4/12/2009 & rated 95 points: Popcorn butter, thick as per H. Delicious as per me. (3407 views)
Tasted by Mattshank on 12/24/2008 & rated 87 points: Nose: Toasty oak with some tropical fruit aromas and a little spicy minerality. Palate: Good acid levels with a slight bitterness on the front end. Spicy oak and some apple hints. A little light/quick on the finish. This is a pleasant Chard but I would agree with previous reviews that it is nothing special. (2984 views)
Tasted by ScottS on 12/19/2008 & rated 83 points: This is one "plain jane" wine. Oaky & smoky with little fruit. Not a bad wine but a wine with no place or distinction. Very disappointing considering the wine maker and past wines from previous vintages.

Tasted by drdebs on 11/25/2008 & rated 91 points: Have no idea what others were drinking, but it wasn't my bottle. Hazelnut, apple, and cream aromas and flavors with a core of fresh lemon to keep it all bright and interesting. Just delicious. (3062 views)
Tasted by zblang on 10/6/2008: This bottle was very disappointing. Had previously with much more enjoyment. This bottle was completely lacking everything, fruit, acidity, etc. I think this one was off (no score given do to possible flawed bottle (3652 views)
Tasted by Saintaz on 9/23/2008 & rated 87 points: I'm a pinot fan but I was interested in seeing what EK could do with a chard. I gave this a hour to open in a decanter. Mellow nose with a touch of honeysuckle which I found appealing since most chards kick you in the teeth with their aroma. Nice and easy citrus flavors that are overcome by white flowers. Very smooth. Followed by a gentle but long finish of light minerals and lavender. I found this very easy to drink and enjoyable. This paired perfectly with a soy ginger steamed sea bass. (3166 views)
Tasted by NPWolfe on 9/16/2008 & rated 84 points: Well, I used to think that the descriptions “smoky” and “toasty oak” to describe the smell and taste of wine were metaphorical. Then, much to my surprise, I read an article on building wine cooperage and discovered that wine barrels are toasted over an open fire. Wine makers can order the toast level that they desire. So feeling much like I fell off the turnip truck on the way to a wine tasting, I now realize that those tasting terms are not metaphorical at all, but the result of the barrels that the vintner selects. This bit of knowledge explains for me what happened to this wine, it spent either too much time in toasted oak barrels or it spend time in oak barrels that had been toasted too much. In either case the “toasty oak” flavors overwhelm the fruit. The wine is not bad, you just have to really like the smell and taste of "toasty oak" to like this wine. (3214 views)
Tasted by scott davis on 8/30/2008 & rated 89 points: Clear, bright yellow in color. Aromas of crisp citrus fruit and vanilla. High-toned, focused layers of honeysuckle, tart lemon, green apple, and pear, with a pinch of nutmeg. Mineral highlights and bright acidity linger through the finish. Oak is apparent, but accretive to the light flavor profile. Pair with food. (3182 views)
Tasted by mlawren1 on 8/25/2008 & rated 88 points: Could have used another year to let the oak mellow a bit. Nice fruit and went great with lobster. (3150 views)
Tasted by Meerlust on 8/20/2008 & rated 85 points: The nose is a melange of butterscotch and citrus fruits. On the palate, the flavors are explosive with definite citrus overtones combined with butterscotch. Structurally, it gets a little weird and seems overacidified. The fruit battles with the acidity and ultimately, loses. The acidity isn't screechy but is out of balance when compared to the depth of the fruit. The finish is full of citrus with lots of butterscotch and vanilla. (3262 views)
Tasted by NPWolfe on 8/12/2008 & rated 86 points: Enough oak that it threw the wine out of balance, but thankfully it was not the raw oak, lick the 2 by 4, brand new barrel kind of oak. More along the lines of a toasted oak taste. Nose of oak, caramel, pear, and other citrus. Taste dominated by oak with citrus and pear flavors. Unusually long finish that was the best aspect of the wine. Not sorry that I have the wine, but I much prefer every other Kent Humphrey chardonnay that I have tasted. (3198 views)
Tasted by tthorn on 8/4/2008 & rated 91 points: Big and rich, with some butterscotch and vanilla. A nice streak of acidity brings it back to earth. (3208 views)
Tasted by NPWolfe on 7/2/2008 & rated 85 points: Generally Kent Humphrey has a deft touch with balance. However, with this bottle of wine he definitely hit one into the rough. Way too much oak and a MLF that somehow did not turn out right. Both the nose and the taste are dominated by wood and butter to the point that the wine has only that dimensionality. Somewhat of a disappointment given the prior efforts by this winery. (3217 views)
Tasted by pakabear on 6/29/2008 & rated 88 points: Buttery, melon, citrus and star fruit galore. Above average bottle of Chard, but nothing special. (3279 views)

(Eric Kent Wine Cellars Chardonnay Sonoma Coast) A beautiful Chardonnay with flavors of lemon curd, Asian pear, vanilla bean, and white flowers. This is what California Chardonnay should be like: luscious, balanced, and highly complex. Cult Wines for Tough Times

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
