Tasted by Mastro56 on 11/21/2020 & rated 90 points: So good! Beautiful garnet color!
Mix of dark berries and a hint of mineral. Very nice. (1988 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 10/10/2018: WIMLNR

Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Light nose of plums and berries. Light palate of berries, herbs and iron. Light acidity, light tannin, medium body. Drink now. No rating. Bottle seemed a bit off at best, certainly didn't match the profile of this wine. (3090 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 5/19/2018 & rated 88 points: Not from temperature controlled storage. This is getting to the end of its better years and for some was too old for their taste. The “drink now“ sign for me was that the nose was much more evolved than the palate on pop and poor but within an hour it seemed the palate had caught up. Drink up. (3322 views)
Tasted by Rcolella on 7/28/2017 flawed bottle: Corked. (3820 views)
Tasted by Rcolella on 7/28/2017 & rated 90 points: Very good. Drink. (3970 views)
Tasted by Rcolella on 3/11/2017: Great wine. Tannins and legs on this wine is very good. Plums and blackberries. Rate 92. Can Cellar 2 -3 years. Dinner with Ray D. (3165 views)
Tasted by sylviap on 10/28/2016: Still has nice nose, with blackberry, dusty berry, spices and leather. Taste is less distinctive, but still tastes of dark berries with some earthiness. (2792 views)
Tasted by Sfrye on 5/31/2015 & rated 92 points: Just always a solid red. Well structured, plenty of fruit yet very elegant. Enjoyed as much as usual. (4063 views)
Tasted by AlphaMikeFoxtrot on 5/1/2015 & rated 90 points: Ripe raspberry, blackberry, leather and some spice. Tannins are still firm but not overpowering. Lingering finish that picks up a little bit toward the very end. Overall, this wine is very balanced. (696 views)
Tasted by "Rhône Rider" on 11/14/2014 & rated 90 points: Expressive nose with black berries, spices and some leather. Fruity mouth with nice acid, and firm tannins. Long, but the body collapses a bit. But still very nice. (4300 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 10/25/2014 & rated 90 points: This has aromas of blackberry, dusty berry and black cherry. This has flavors of black cherry, plum, mulberry and ends with an earthy note. Finish goes on for at least 25 seconds. Doesn't taste like a 9 year old wine and still a whole lot of life left here. Pure Napa Valley here. (4095 views)

(3706 views)
Tasted by BRY on 6/27/2014 & rated 88 points: Difficult to give this a fair rating, because in reality it was just left in the cellar for a few years too long. Still nice, but lacked the fruit and balance that we normally love in duckhorn. (3885 views)
Tasted by pickhardt on 4/5/2014 & rated 90 points: The last glass was really singing. It seems like an hour of decanting would still be valuable for this wine. (3135 views)
Tasted by sirswami on 4/4/2014 & rated 91 points: Very nice showing by this wine across the board; beautiful color, inviting nose and rich dark fruit flavor pallet. This wine didn't offer any reasons for concern about continuing to cellar but it is drinkiing beautifully right now... (2768 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 1/3/2014 & rated 90 points: Tasted single blind. Nose is spicy, peppery and elegant carrying over to the palate which is juicy and sleek with dark cherry notes. (2509 views)
Tasted by Jmmartin66 on 11/19/2013 & rated 90 points: Still delicious!! (2711 views)
Tasted by Vinnut on 11/14/2013 & rated 92 points: Deep, dark reddish-purple in color with no signs of aging. Initially reticent nose which opened and developed with extending airing to a fragrant & attractive nose of ripe dark fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries, blueberries & plums with cocoa, leather, earthy, spices, some herbs, some cedar notes with a touch of vanilla in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced, complex & polished, rich, ripe dark fruit flavors of sweet cherries, blackberries and plums, mocha, earthy, minerals, spices and a hint of vanilla. Long lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well at present but has some potential to develop further with additional aging. (2277 views)
Tasted by Ha-wine on 8/11/2013 & rated 94 points: - Brick color - Color still deep, not oxidized at all, great fruit-forward nose, with spice/veg/pungent notes, still has a lot of weighty fruit on the palate...seems to be peaking right now...a really nice, big merlot from Duckhorn...nice, fairly complex finish with fruit and tannin speaking at equal volume...nice...delicious...

Tasted by JaneCIllinois on 1/27/2013 & rated 92 points: This merlot is fruity and earthy in great balance. We used an aerator rather than decanting (2965 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
