Tasted by f4drvr on 11/18/2023 & rated 92 points: Excellent wine, drinking very well, especially this late in the suggested window. (467 views)
Tasted by Tracy Stuart on 6/21/2023: SENT TO MAIN DECK (641 views)
Tasted by Stevie_chams91 on 1/4/2023 & rated 81 points: Borderline corked. Didnt really open up. Decanted it for 1.5 hours. (906 views)
Tasted by Stevie_chams91 on 12/19/2022 & rated 87 points: Not as good as the first bottle. Seemed slightly corked. Didnt really open up (830 views)
Tasted by Stevie_chams91 on 12/8/2022 & rated 92 points: Well balanced. Didnt decant. Didnt need much time to breathe. (749 views)
Tasted by pavel_p on 11/14/2022 & rated 90 points: 3 years since my last bottle. Pnp. 07 BdM mostly fall into one of two categories: the overripe ones, often from the Southern cluster in Montalcino which showed burned fruit and tar notes in their youth (eg Ucceliera) and then in some cases picked up oxidative notes as they aged (eg Tenuta Nuova). Then there is the second category which managed to get around these shortcomings in this (too) hot vintage, but still suffered a bit from fairly muted aromatics likely due to the lack of cool(ing) nights during 07. In general I feel the Riservas showed better than the Annatas, and this Caparzo falls clearlyinto the second bucket.
Fully resolved upon Pnp, this has lost the richness of merely 3 years ago and is a medium bodied Brunello, almost a little lean, with the usual typical mix of earthy notes and a touch of dry fruit. Enjoyable but starts to fade a bit with about 90 min in the open bottle with the fruit leaving and solely earthy notes dominating. Short to medium finish. 92 upon opening and then drifting towards 89-90.
Would drink now without decant. (748 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 1/8/2022 & rated 93 points: Hosting JJ at home. Drank in Conterno Sensory.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of sour red cherries, red plums, earth. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), integrated high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of classic sour red cherries, red plums, earth, balsamic, sweet spices. Very long finish.
Very good quality. No stewed ripe fruit in sight. Defies the vintage. Drinking in a good place already, and could still develop a bit more. (1710 views)
Tasted by laetulos on 5/14/2021 & rated 92 points: Very good, oak, spices (nutmeg?), leather. It's light but has the layers it was lacking before if u are into the Brunello profile. Nuanced rather than powerful,bi understand why some don't love these wines. (1566 views)
Tasted by gew71walsh on 3/3/2021 & rated 91 points: Four years later this is a little better on the first night with beef bourgignon—two nights later it lost some. Cherries, some spice, medium on the palate—medium finish. Since this seemed to lose something, I would suggest drinking in one sitting, with food and within the next couple of years. (1502 views)
Tasted by Mtorigian on 11/26/2020 & rated 98 points: Superb wine - blackberry slight coffee undertone tannin (1679 views)
Tasted by rjfix on 7/18/2020 & rated 92 points: Very smooth
Excellent with Tuscan style steak (1891 views)
Tasted by BDTahoe648 on 4/20/2020: Decant (1661 views)
Tasted by Pedroel on 2/26/2020 & rated 91 points: Dusty raspberries and rose petals on the nose; fruit still pronounced on the palate, with lightly drying, soft tannins; long, long saliva-inducing finish. I’d score it higher if not for my general dislike of (young?) Montalcino dirt-like terroir, of which there is very little in this case. (1521 views)
Tasted by Eigerdog on 1/14/2020 & rated 90 points: Fruit forward nose, tart red fruit on the palette. Balanced with very little tannins left. (1527 views)
Tasted by pavel_p on 5/19/2019 flawed bottle: First bottle from a case of 6, unfortunately slightly corked. Still you can clearly see that this is another very good 07 Riserva with a medium body and nicely integrated acidity giving it a pleasant lift. None of the overripeness, burned fruit and high alcohol levels (this is a moderate 14%) many of the annatas seem to suffer from. Galloni got the vintage completely wrong, it’s the Riservas to go for in 07, and with a few exceptions a pass on the Annatas. (2226 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 2/2/2019 flawed bottle: Very roasted and strange. Probably cooked. (1845 views)
Tasted by Bodyfxr on 12/26/2018 & rated 94 points: Decanted for an hour. A bit tight on the nose otherwise this baby was singing when paired with homemade brick oven pizza. This is a very well structured wine that should only improve with age. (1613 views)
Tasted by D3S on 11/1/2018 & rated 94 points: Great brunello (1562 views)
Tasted by D3S on 6/1/2018 & rated 94 points: Nice nose, cherries and other red fruit, some subtle earthy notes, mild spice, medium tannins and great finish. Improved significantly after being opened for an hour. I suspect this wine has years ahead of fantastic drinking. (2080 views)
Tasted by ELH on 3/26/2017 & rated 94 points: Lovely fruit, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries. Medium bodied. Tannins lurking in the background but just powerful enough to provide a foundation. Opened but an hour but not decanted. Marvelous food wine. (3354 views)
Tasted by Justinneal654 on 3/11/2017 & rated 93 points: I have very little experience determining if a wine should be aged longer before consuming, but after after tasting this and trying another wine from the same vintage, I think this one might need a few more years to mature.

Nose was dark and earthy, with some mild dark fruits. Early palate, cocoa blueberry raspberry. Earthy graphite and licorice. Finish is long but tight tannins and drying acidity.

It improved dramatically after standing open for three hours, after only one hour it was really tight. (1558 views)
Tasted by mraabpfg on 12/31/2016: Opened along with 2007 Caparzo and a 2007 Casanova Di Neri - all were very good (3188 views)
Tasted by gew71walsh on 11/11/2016 & rated 90 points: Cherries with an anise based spiciness. Nice finish, but not particularly long. This may need a little more time to fully come together. Paired with a beef/ mushroom stew and it was complementary. (2931 views)
Tasted by Winowhyno on 7/2/2016 & rated 92 points: Awesome ....smoky...cedar...tobacco...ruby red....perfect balance... (3259 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
