It’s an 88-89 (higher if you factor in QPR) but I’m balancing out the harsh graders. I’ve never seen so many low to meh ratings with positive notes for a wine as cheap as this. Might be the best $15 bottle of wine I’ve had in 20 years, excluding the freebies. (939 views) | | Tasted by chbeaumont on 12/15/2019 & rated 88 points: Garnet; warm leather, bricks, squashed summer red fruits; accessible, easy going ripe fruit, soft; fading on the finish. Drink up. Overnight this deepened & shaped up neatly. (1180 views) | | Tasted by chbeaumont on 3/31/2018 & rated 90 points: Well coloured; mellow, sophisticated, confident; supple, refreshing, good weight, complete. Approaching or at peak. (1833 views) | | Tasted by BillyRayValentine on 3/27/2018 & rated 91 points: Agree with Ewindels note but wow I guess I’m an easy grader....versatile weeknight dinner wine and excellent value. (1646 views) | | Tasted by Francois Le Mouel on 3/11/2017 & rated 89 points: Good, supple, easy drinking wine with a barnyard twist. First experience with this appellation. (3394 views) | | Tasted by ewindels on 3/3/2017 & rated 83 points: Good, reliable, rounded, balanced mix of heft, body, berry and stony/earthiness. Great hearty pasta red. A definite repeat. (2346 views) | | Tasted by Ruubious on 2/20/2017: 3/5 - Plenty of barnyard aromas, earthy, some red berries. Smooth tannin and acidity. Pretty good, nothing too special. probably would enjoy this more on a hot summer day. (2252 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 10/22/2016 flawed bottle: Corked! (2521 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 10/22/2016: Red fruit and dusty and a rather big fruit in the mid palate for me. (2627 views) | | Tasted by texanoblues on 3/16/2016 & rated 89 points: Deep red/violet and clear in the glass. Open and aromatic with cranberry, pomegranate, leather, and citrus notes. Same on palate driven by intense, tangy acidity. Medium-bodied but extracted, with some firmness. Very nice, unique, summer wine. 88-90 pts. (1283 views) | | Tasted by chbeaumont on 1/24/2016 & rated 87 points: Rubied; starts closed, dry herbs, bloody, rose hip, medicinal; elements follow onto palate; plenty of acidity, lean but not unpleasantly so; an astringency on the finish, fair length. Clearly needs more time. (1253 views) | | Tasted by Rezy13 on 3/24/2015: VinItaly Day 3 (Verona, Italy): 85% Sangiovese and rest is Alicante and Malvasia; deep garnet, good extraction; very sour plum, dark cherry, very fruity, some herbs; juicy, red and dark fruit, plum, nice long finish; good, like drinkability. (2093 views) | | Tasted by Yagil on 11/5/2014 & rated 86 points: Fattoria Le Pupille visit (Fattoria Le Pupille, Grosseto): pleasant fruity aroma, bitter, dry, 'green' veggie flavours, long finish (1669 views) |

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)Fattoria Le Pupille (Elisabetta Geppetti) Morellino di Scansanohttps://www.fattorialepupille.it/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/MORELLINO-2017_ENG.pdfSangioveseSANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se"). Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]
Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorTuscany Tuscany (ItalianMade.com) | TuscanytMaremma On weinlagen-info |
