Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.6 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 15 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by drwine2001 on 5/6/2024: 2017 White and 2014 Red Burgundy (The Morris, San Francisco): Full yellow. Lots of apple on the nose and palate. Medium weight, nice feel, drier finish but lower in acidity. Too loose, advanced for its age, and little that speaks of Chablis. Same impression as when tasted last year. (349 views)
Tasted by PC73 on 4/21/2024 & rated 92 points: Probably best bottle of this wine yet for me. Lots of power and complexity, but more refined than prior bottles. Nice texture and impressive mouth feel. Citrus notes. Certainly not true classical style of Chablis, with a bit more generosity than many classical Chablis producers to my palate. Dont pick up natural vibes that I’ve noticed in previous bottles.
Still think this has a good life ahead. (120 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/1/2024 & rated 90 points: La Paulée de Los Angeles - The Verticals (Maybourne Hotel - Beverly Hills CA): Vertical flight. Lemon and lime, ultra bright, very good length. Best of the vertical. (510 views)
Tasted by bhs14 on 2/19/2024 & rated 91 points: Reductive on opening. Extremely linear and focused very minerally. (242 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 11/15/2023 & rated 93 points: Glass: Zalto Bordeaux
Popped and poured, drunk over four days. Clear, pale golden color. Clean, medium+ intense, youthful-developing nose with some flint, citrus notes, chalk and gravel. Dense and deep.
On the palate bone dry, laser sharp acidity and medium body. Very mineral, herbaceous, some zests and lime. Very precise and focused, elegant and fresh. Long, fruity and mineral finish. Beautiful Chablis mit upscale potential. 93+ (574 views)
Tasted by cortoncharlie on 10/27/2023 & rated 92 points: Developing nicely from a year ago and entering early drinking window. We did not decant this but drank it slowly over lunch. Zippy acidity buttressed by sea salt and minerality. I loved the light touch in the wine-making style. Pure and elegant. Lacked the depth of a grand cru but I thought it was a true reflection of the vintage and place. I did not get any of the bruised apple profile I normally associate with natural wine. (416 views)
Tasted by PC73 on 7/13/2023: still very tight. definitely would benefit from a decant.
like the tension and underlying materials (590 views)
Tasted by Alex Barbera on 6/18/2023 & rated 93 points: Herrlich (566 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/3/2023: The Verticals Tasting at 2023 La Paulée (Eventi Hotel, New York): Very textural, rich, and low in acidity. Like all of these, bruised apple fruit. Not very Chablisien. (1505 views)
Tasted by PC73 on 2/4/2023 & rated 92 points: Stronger showing than last bottle from open but evolving at a glacial pace. Lots of power and complexity. Full of texture and impressive mouth feel. Citrus notes. Certainly not true classical style of Chablis, with a bit more generosity than many classical Chablis producers to my palate. I think this is going to improve over the coming years and develop into something really impressive. (514 views)
Tasted by PC73 on 10/9/2022 & rated 91 points: Slightly disjointed and all over the place on opening. But then with time and air it began to transform. Took a couple of hours in the decanter, but then really started to show its stuff. Lots of power. Full of texture. Citrus notes. Certainly not true classical style of Chablis. But very interesting and I’m pleased I’ve a case to this to follow over the next few years. (612 views)
Tasted by cortoncharlie on 8/7/2022 & rated 91 points: I normally don't like natural wine but I liked this one. Very unique, drinkable style of chablis with lots of finesse. Feels a bit expensive for village level material (503 views)
Tasted by NickA on 9/15/2021 & rated 93 points: Exploring new domaines in Burgundy with Jasper Morris MW (67 Pall Mall): Based in an outlying area of the appellation, fully natural winemaking (no sulphur at all), two years in barrel.

Green fruit on the nose at first, becoming fumy and tropical with more air. Very impactful on the palate - boom! Rich, viscous, tangy, somewhat mealy, then a long floral finish. Not a classic style of Chablis, but very exciting on its own terms. (1196 views)
Tasted by melvinyeowq on 5/30/2021: Casual dinner: Surprisingly dark in colour for a young wine, together with some nutty notes I think it must be from oak use? Started off really flabby and disjointed, clearly a more powerful style of Chablis that will take time to integrate but at the same time I am not sure if this will age well. Think this is similar to Pattes Loup's style that belongs to the newer school of Chablis, but Pattes Loup is better balanced. Shame because I liked the entry-level Côte aux Prêtres a lot more. Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
