Wish we would have had it fresh. (336 views) | | Tasted by jjlobi on 12/24/2009 & rated 87 points: Light bodied, but flavorful (2055 views) | | Tasted by foodie on 9/19/2009 & rated 88 points: A rather muted, sanguine red color. Pungent nose of earth and blackberry, tinge of geranium. Good presence of Carignan. Fruity palate, hint of wood, formidable finish. Good value wine, within it's prime, but heading into a more rustic structure that some may find averse. A little disappointing in consideration of my review five months prior. (2202 views) | | Tasted by 23dex on 8/4/2009: haven't seen this bottle in a long time - think i drank it already (2344 views) | | Tasted by foodie on 4/10/2009 & rated 89 points: It is my personal belief that Corbières has a bad rep in the value wine category... perhaps as a more misunderstood appelation. Anyhow, this is certainly a great value wine that just needs aging. Many people might not be accustomed to buying an under $15 bottle to age, but Chateauneufs and Bordeauxs used to have the same characteristic. This is a very rustic wine, like much of the regions produce, and will benefit greatly from being open overnight, decanted, or simply allowed to mellow out over a few years to allow its more appreciable notes to rise up. The Col des Vents is packed with purple/red fruits, cocoa, herbs, ansieseed, beef daube, and is fairly high in acid at this juncture. A presence of oak is noticeable lending to some undercurrents of vanilla or caramel. People see an inexpensive price tag and often think "ready to drink." When you see Corbières, one should see "extreme value cellar candidate." Alternatively, this is an EXCELLENT cooking wine, particularly for marinated beef dishes (see: daube.) (2321 views) | | Tasted by tonyvelebil on 3/31/2009 & rated 87 points: Cracked this last night for a glass or two while cooking. Checked back on it today with a glass. Very nice $10 wine imported by the folks at Kysela.
The nose has nice black cherry, ripe raspberries and crushed wet rock. On the palate, it smooth and very drinkable with more black cherry, blueberry, herbs and a little white pepper. Juicy acidity keeps it lively. This a terrific everyday drinker that would be good with a nice simple pasta dish, roast chicken or pizza...screw cap for easy portability! (2268 views) | | Tasted by DanR on 3/18/2009 & rated 86 points: Garnet color. Restrained perfume - concord grape, blueberry, and a delicate violet note. Medium-bodied, and surprisingly dense, soft, and round. Very plummy with a touch of black cherry, five-spice, and earth; and a slightly spicy, but short, finish. Low acidity. I found it a good value @ $8.99, and would buy again. Drink now. (1485 views) | | Tasted by ml1 on 3/1/2009 & rated 84 points: This is a rustic one that is a pretty simple wine, but a nice change of pace. Stinky nose. Medium to light-bodied, pretty one dimensional...little tannin....blueberries and violets and earth. Black pepper on the finish. (1147 views) | | Tasted by steven444 on 2/8/2009 & rated 88 points: Leather, tobacco and black fruit on the nose. Rustic with good fruit and complexity, more than expected for this price point. Very smooth and a real suprise. (1314 views) | | Tasted by jmoskow on 11/17/2008 & rated 79 points: Bought for $12. You get what you pay for. Thin, not much mouthfeel, tannic, not much fruit. One dimensional. Skip it. (1164 views) |
