Tasted by .M. on 5/7/2022 & rated 90 points: Drukket pnp. Lukket og litt vrang akkurat nå. Kjennes som det ligger en del og lurer. Vent, eller i det minste gi mye luft. (702 views)
Tasted by rSyver on 2/20/2022 & rated 89 points: It stands out as a big wine more than I have experience before, a bit rough, yet there is balance and good length. Other than that, mirror my previous note. (784 views)
Tasted by rSyver on 10/17/2021 & rated 88 points: Obviously young so drunk over two days which the wine benefitted from. Although there is more within than pops out at the moment, it is still quite well balanced already and sings way much better on day two. Good length, I like the mineral footprint and the nice white fruit. Lots of air in advance or some more time in the cellar. Not as "huge" wine as other Morstein I have drunk which is a plus in my book. (854 views)

Westhofener Morstein

From the winery:
The Westhofener Morstein is a sloped vineyard, facing south. Its soil consists of sandy loam over a limestone base. Its subsoil is strongly influenced by chalky acquiferous layers which act as water veins and turn into wells in very rainy periods. The consequence is a strong humidity in the subsoil, which offers ideal conditions for the rootstock by constantly supplying it with minerals and nutrients. It is this factor which defines the mineral character of the wines from this vineyard. The 2009 Morstein Spätburgunder GG is a wonderful example of this. Dark coloured with brick-red reflexes it portraits vanilla and cherry scents aligned with light notes of spices and roasted bread. On the palate it displays a young, elegant character with hints of peanuts, which bear witness to its 18 month maturation in barriques. This wine has a wonderful creamy textured finish and can be enjoyed on its own with as much pleasure as in combination with meat dishes or strong vegetarian meals.

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
