Community Tasting Notes (average 92.4 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 22 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by PC73 on 9/19/2023 & rated 94 points: Third in a six months. Every bit as good as the last two. It’s the sort of showing that explains why Droin is getting such praise. This explodes on the nose from the open. Oyster shell. Saline. Hint of generosity of fruit (for a Chablis) that is common to the Valmur site. Super elegant and refined.
The palate is the epitome of balance and refinement. Very mineral and crisp. Lazer focused. Everything I love in a serious Chablis. Gpod underlying power.
Gets better and better in the glass. Still a long life ahead I would suspect. If I can resist. Which so far isn’t working out very well.
Another Droin masterclass. In Droin we trust. (522 views)
Tasted by Mario17 on 9/16/2023 & rated 92 points: Un autre beau Droin, encore jeune, signature habituelle de silex, bord de mer et noisettes entre autres, belle rondeur avec cette tension assez appuyée, toujours un délice. (598 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 6/17/2023: Oysters, Shabu Shabu, Chablis, and Burgundy (San Francisco): Light greenish yellow. Lemon and herbs. Medium weight, outstanding acidity, green citrus, and excellent rocky finish. Still youthful and bright. As good as it was, it paled in comparison to the towering 1996 Dauvissat Clos. (1303 views)
Tasted by Mario17 on 6/3/2023 & rated 92 points: Typé Droin et Chablis, tendu, touche de fumée, miméral, bord de mer, salin, belle longueur, quelle qualité pour le prix. Aucune fatigue pré-maturée.

Gorgeous Chanlis and Droin style, mineral, tense, saline, balanced and zero premature fatigue. (866 views)
Tasted by olioli on 3/10/2023 & rated 93 points: En parfait accord avec mon ami Mario haha! (875 views)

Typical Chablis and Droin style, silex, saline and sea shells, mineral and very crisp, drinks, still got depth and feels young, great Chablis GC. (907 views)
Tasted by chbeaumont on 8/6/2022 & rated 96 points: Sunflower yellow, green tint; saline & white flower notes, splendidly focused; lovely shape, cosseted feel, lovely tension & superb balance; bags of energy on an extended finish. Complete. (898 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 6/14/2022 & rated 93 points: Nose has apples, lemons and lime with a faint hint of oak, ripe fruits and a little floral element. The palate has a surprising richness to it, lemons, limes, peach all come through then there's a dry sensation as the slight salty edge takes over but then the fruit comes back to leave a long and lingering finish. Quite remarkable. Still feels a little young, but is still delicious and a great way to celebrate. This is available @laywheeler £78 I'm surprised that there's any left. I have 1 bottle left which will be left for a year or 2 well worth seeking out to try and #giveanewwineago #burgundynick (832 views)
Tasted by ahagen on 5/19/2022 & rated 93 points: Eterisk, vektløs, men stor kraft. Stor vin. (898 views)
Tasted by vide on 10/9/2021 & rated 93 points: The second day with this wine, and its structure has now emerged more clearly. But in my experience, fine wine rarely reaches a second day, particulary if it is opened at a dinner party, where one is normally regaled to the vissitudes of life, matrimonial and professional of our friends. Here, the Valmur must take second place. And, of course, the food intervenes as well.

But this is a wine that has given up the fatness of yesterday to the lithe form of today. Wonderful lift on the nose, and what balance in the mouth. It lacks perhaps the depth of Les Clos, but I am being churlish by such comaparions. A very fine wine, and 2014 is as good as they say. (1224 views)
Tasted by vide on 10/8/2021 & rated 92 points: This wine has a little way to go before it reaches its peak. Wonderful fruit balanced by acidity. All very attractive, but there is a little residual fat there, which may go away through time (and by time I mean that tomorrow it may have gone, or perhaps it needs another couple of years in the bottle). I don't know.

It perhaps lacks a little in finesse.

But I am repeating myself. (970 views)
Tasted by Tobinski on 7/10/2020: In a good spot now. A paradigm of the concept of concentration without weight. (1437 views)
Tasted by Dale M on 1/4/2020 & rated 93 points: According to Tanner, this Valmur is from young vines of 14 and a 7 years of age. Perhaps this leads to a forward drinking and very open GC, loaded with sweet fruit of whites peaches and mirabelle and an extremely well timed burst of lemony citrus acid. Rich and expansive, while not a classical Chablis by any means, this still derived the goods. Looking to get some 17’s from Droin. (1883 views)
Tasted by Burgundynick on 4/29/2019 & rated 91 points: Very good Chablis and just about in its drinking window. Lots of lemon, steeliness and freshness. Great value Chablis and a lovely crisp finish. 91 points (2048 views)
Tasted by LWI on 3/17/2019 & rated 92 points: Surprisingly smooth (1704 views)
Tasted by Lipsman on 5/28/2017 & rated 92 points: Clean pure fruit, crisp, fresh Chablis. Good body with medium viscosity. Citrus and lemon curd. Excellent with oysters. No need to wait, ready to drink now. (3149 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 3/23/2017 & rated 88 points: Thin man. (2643 views)

(2535 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 5/15/2016 & rated 93 points: Second Sunday Group: 2013 & 2014 Chablis (Jeff's): Similar bouquet to wine G, but without the toasted notes, there's orchard fruit and stone/mineral with a terrific lemony overtone. Again, very well-balanced in terms of the fruit and acidity, this has great tension. Lemon, crab apple and mineral qualities with the lemony citrus shining brightest on the long finish. Impressive.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
