| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.8 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 22 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 8/23/2023: Medium yellow. Some stone fruit on the nose. Medium weight, some glycerine. Just off dry stone fruit and a twist of the tropical with very good acidity and an excellent infusion of soil at the end. Better structured than last time but still only moderate intensity and drive. No secondary development yet. (1076 views) | | Tasted by lepetitchateau on 1/18/2023 & rated 90 points: This wine has its fans, but in my opinion, it shows that there is German Riesling, and then all the rest... this was heavy and a touch cloying, acceptable but lacking that racy acidity one finds in the best Rieslings. (880 views) | | Tasted by dlduchon on 8/23/2022 & rated 94 points: Superlative Riesling. Great delineation and complexity. Each taste was an impressive variety of flavors. Eleven bottles to go, which gives me warm fuzzies for future bottles. Should be improving for decades. (958 views) | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 7/13/2022: Medium yellow. Flowers and orchard fruit. Middle weight, off dry. Pleasant apple fruit that reminded me more of Pinot Blanc than Riesling. A little loose and lacking in focus and intensity. (1406 views) | | Tasted by Vini Ciclismo on 1/13/2022 & rated 93 points: Lemon gold colour. Soft white flowers, pears, white peach, manuka honey. Very even weight, lightly creamy, excellent length, harmonious finish. Lemon curd, honey, great minerality, and a lovely precision. Still young and at least five ahead. The silky style makes it very drinkable now. (1285 views) | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 11/13/2021: Yellow with a green tinge. Upon first sniff/sip, there was so much spicy apple and oiliness to the texture that I rushed back to examine the bottle and make sure that I hadn't inadvertently opened a Tokay Pinot Gris. Nope, right bottle. The fragrant apple persisted, and more classic stone fruit never showed up, but Riesling structure pretty quickly emerged, with it becoming leaner and showing a soil-laden finish. Intriguing wine, off dry, and fascinating candied ginger that complements the fruit. The acidity is average. Rich, distinctive, and fresh, but it would be hard for me to say it is either typical or great. I shall follow my remaining bottles with a combination of interest and skepticism. (1509 views) | | Tasted by Lyubomir Lefterov on 10/3/2021 & rated 92 points: Lots going on here, with petrol, honeysuckle, lemon, lemon curd, zesty and yeasty, nice weight, sits comfortably in bigger glass as the aromatics are intense. In good spot for drinking now. (907 views) | | Tasted by pkouchu on 1/28/2021 & rated 93 points: lemon, honeysuckle, citrus peel, quince, pear, crushed stone, yellow apples and apricot.
Lively palate with a clean stone fruits, high acidity, refreshing
Decanted an hour, lovely aromatics (1150 views) | | Tasted by Saxman1984 on 11/1/2019: Drank at Topolobampo A wonderful match with Rick Bayless’ complex moles. The wine has orchard fruit singing from the nose, specifically golden delicious. There is a bit of residual sugar, very minor, but excellent pairing with the spicy moles. The finish definitely had a mineral tang. Quite wonderful. (1469 views) | | Tasted by rlove on 8/9/2019 & rated 92 points: Bright yellow. Exuberant nose of spiced orchard fruit and green herbs. Both broad and deep on the palate, coating and lingering, with orchard and lychee fruit flavors. From old vines in mid-slope Schlossberg. Very good and with a bit more grip and energy this would be excellent. (From 375ml) (1388 views) | | Tasted by LWI on 3/17/2019 & rated 91 points: Blind. Rich and smooth, lots of everything - lacking a bit in grip and acidity (1433 views) | | Tasted by Cherries&Earth on 10/7/2018 & rated 93 points: Nose: White flowers, hint of petrol/terpenes Taste: Stone fruit, ripe apple, and good minerality
Nice freshness with balanced acidity. Salinity with a medium-long finish (1598 views) | | Tasted by quaffnov on 3/5/2018 & rated 93 points: A great bottle of young riesling, with floral notes, lemon and a great balance between RS and brisk acidity. Drank this over two days and the second day stood out, with the acidity really kicking off the flavor profile. This wine was glouglou for me, quite wonderful. (1944 views) | | Tasted by Milos on 7/7/2017 & rated 92 points: Yellow fruit, lemon and mineral notes. Bit of tension on the palate between the fruit flavours, sweetness and acidity Overall excellent balance and good weight. I would leave it for another five years before trying again. (1357 views) | | Tasted by BarryPaulPrice on 4/17/2017 & rated 93 points: Most impressed by the balance between the acidity and RS. Lovely nose kept revealing more as I returned to it: white stone fruits, some citrus, honey, minerality, white flowers. (2460 views) | | Tasted by Mascarello59 on 4/8/2017 & rated 93 points: Fresh mineral/chalk, white peach, lemon. Dry, clean, fruity wine with good acidity and balance. Full bodied with a slight heat on the finish but overall a really good one! Accessible even this young but will of course last for years. 92-93p (2135 views) | | Tasted by saten26 on 11/21/2016 & rated 95 points: Pale straw-green. Very intense, complex aromas of white peach complemented by minerals, lemon verbena and ginger. Dense, rich and very juicy, with vibrant lemony minerality framing and intensifying the wine's deep inner-mouth perfume of pure white peach. One of the finest dry wines from Weinbach in years. From 60-year-old vines planted in the middle portion of the Schlossberg, which is the heart of this great grand cru. 95+ points. (2192 views) |
