Tasted by WineBurrowingWombat on 10/21/2023 & rated 94 points: Cracking the whip; 10/16/2023-10/23/2023 (Eagan, MN): N: Honied and somewhat sweet apricots, lightly fruit covered stones, and dried hay. A good amount of fruit but walks the line between cloying and just the right amount.

P: Palate matches nose with the addition of bitter wax, a bit of spiced oak. Good weight on the palate but barely manages to keep somewhat light on its feet.

The Kolibri was much better to me the other night, showing much better delivery and freshness. I think that is what’s missing in this one, the freshness to keep things lifted. A bit weighted down. Might want to serve at cellar temp and keep it at cellar temp if possible if opening now. (965 views)
Tasted by Minnesota on 6/25/2023 & rated 87 points: Did not stand up to aging -- nor did we finish the bottle. (571 views)
Tasted by Jzboxtas on 1/30/2022 flawed bottle: Cork was wet and broke in two on removal. Almost the color of apple juice. Not blown away as I had hoped. Will revisit tomorrow after some more airtime. (1580 views)
Tasted by Tudz Drkl on 7/30/2021: Clear, full bodied and bronzed gold. Complex nose centered on spiced peaches. Oily in the mouth with some accompanying buttered. Full bodied and lus with a long finish (1944 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 9/24/2020 & rated 88 points: Still not a fan. Sell (2409 views)
Tasted by ews3 on 8/14/2020 & rated 94 points: In a good spot right now — nice tropical notes, exotic spice. Balanced with good length. Starting to show some secondary notes and drinking really well right now. (2474 views)
Tasted by Mrbuzz on 12/7/2019 & rated 97 points: 48% Roussanne, 34% Chardonnay and 18% Viognier from the Eleven Confessions and Bien Nacido vineyards. At the 10 year mark, a tremendous showing! EVOO viscosity...shimmering gold and green metallic color...nose explodes with butter rum spice, apricot jam, candied pineapples, match strike, exotic white honey butter, honeysuckle florals. Rich and creamy, again, evoo viscosity in the mouth...yet a citrus freshness that gives it a good acidic tang and cut through the richness. SO complex and layered with amazing flavors as the nose...as well as lychee florals, white pepper spice...a honeycomb waxiness, slight char of wood...amazing length and balance...not weighty at all. WOW...so so sorry to see this last bottle go...but what an exit! (3051 views)
In lichte paniek. Want deze wijn kom ik ook in 2019 en 2020 nog graag een keer tegen ;-). 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Smaak / Afdronk: 18 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 95/100

Google Translate:

Color: Deep golden yellow, almost the color of a slightly ripened Sauternes Aroma / bouquet: KABOOOMMMM, because subtlety and Sine Qua Non do not go together ;-). This wine (48% Roussanne, 34% Chardonnay and 18% Viognier) would put any wine from the Southern Rhône in its shadow and offers an explosion of both intense and complex fragrance impressions. Butter babblers, vanilla, polishing wax, overripe stone fruit such as peach and apricot, refined wood, cinnamon. It does not stop. Taste / Finish: Super-concentrated, thick-juicy and filming mouthfeel, layered. Retronasal impressions of cedar, cinnamon, butter and wax. Soft acidity in which the unbelievable concentration and filling counterbalances the definitely generous alcohol content of 15.5% for a white wine. No culinary eating wine, this wine is food and drink at the same time. General / potential: What a party, what a powerhouse. The last bottle from the cellar. In mild panic. Because this wine I would also like to meet again in 2019 and 2020 ;-). 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Taste / Finish: 18 + General / potential: 9 = 95/100 (2916 views)
Tasted by Rosengoo on 12/1/2018 & rated 92 points: This wine was chilled for 45 minutes prior to opening. It was clear and straw yellow in colour with a nose and flavours of lemon and orange citrus mixed with a slight aftertaste of butterscotch. The wine was quite good but there wasn't a long or noticeable finish to it. (2578 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 11/16/2018 & rated 94 points: WIML94

Tasted non blind.

Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of ash, flint, yellow pear and a hint of vanilla. Flavors of creme, yellow pear and nutmeg. Medium acidity, full bodied. Drink now. (2227 views)
Tasted by Elpaninaro on 11/16/2018: Judging by the "old world"/"new world" paradigm- or more appropriately in this case I think, "Vineyard" vs "Man"- I should be one of those people who does not like Sine Qua Non. But the truth is I find them quite enjoyable. They are always fun and always something new. It has taken me time to see it, but I think it is a complete rejection of the notion of site and the full embrace of the magic that can be made in the winery. Naturally this puts a great burden on the winery- but happily the Krankls seem to know exactly what they are about, and I always enjoy the result.

young moderately deep yellow color, on the nose quite a lot of oak but also strong grass and melon notes, soft citrus tones, on the palate a great depth of melon and lemongrass fruit with white mineral edges, fine length, an assertive and unapologetically hedonistic wine, some heat on the finish, the classic rules do not really apply here- very much a love it or leave it kind of wine, this classic palate finds it great fun. ***+, seems ready to go to me, but time in hand. It might even develop further, but given my infrequent experiences with SQN and its singular style which makes it hard to find peer comparisons, specific predictions are difficult. (2454 views)
Tasted by BigTex22 on 11/16/2018: Big, oily, passion fruit, guava, pineapple, butterscotch. An interesting wine that moves a lot on the palate. (1740 views)
Tasted by Whodeyinsea on 4/28/2018 & rated 93 points: My first SQN. Golden in the glass. Nose makes you think this is going to be a red wine. Initally more heat than I care for. Palate is oily with peach pineapple and a saline finish. (1975 views)
Tasted by Naplesgolfer on 3/30/2018 & rated 97 points: Popped and poured after a ice down. Needed to be a bit colder than 56 degree cellar temp. Pineapple wi th paraffin and pit fruit. Bright gold. Just awesome! (1859 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 1/26/2018 & rated 92 points: Sine Qua Non dinner (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): Initially strong bar soap. Big scale nose displaying opulent very ripe yellow fruit, pineapple, peach, mango, cobbler, lilac, bubble yum, cinnamon, honey and a hint of heat. Excellent concentration, dense, oily and chewy, deeply toned tropical yellow fruit, medium acidity and a long rich yellow fruit driven finish. A typical SQN white, big, oily, sweet, extremely ripe and heat. YMMV as usual. (2643 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 12/6/2017 & rated 93 points: WIML93

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about 90 minutes.

Yellow color in he glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of ocean spray, graham crackers and waxy pears. Flavors of grapefruit rind, apricot and lemon curd. Medium acidity, medium to full bodied. Drink over the short term. Next couple of years. (2371 views)
Tasted by jlgnml on 3/21/2017 & rated 85 points: Coravined 6 months ago. Good. Just tried it and sour apples. (3462 views)
Tasted by Mrbuzz on 3/19/2017 & rated 96 points: Dinner at Trelio (Clovis Ca.): Softer and more subtle than past bottles...which I really dug! Peaches and honey...tropical pineapple, banana wax, buttered rum spice...pretty honeysuckle florals, saline minerality...if Raveneau made a Rhone white? Loved this! (3342 views)
Tasted by Rosengoo on 2/19/2017 & rated 95 points: This bottle was opened and poured immediately. The wine was originally slightly cloudy but clear up. It was golden in colour and had a nose of orange citrus and caramel or even some butterscotch. When I tasted this, the citrus was diminshed and the caramel moved to the forefront. There was also some butter and peach flavours in the glass. I really enjoyed this SQN white wine and the finish stayed for quite a long time. (2953 views)
Tasted by doctornoah on 2/18/2017 & rated 91 points: My 40th Birthday Weekend; 2/17/2017-2/20/2017: A bit hot to my tastes, but a jam-packed and big wine. This wine will take you to Flavortown. (3494 views)
Tasted by pauljr1121 on 1/14/2017 & rated 96 points: Enjoyed over the course of a two hour dinner. A beautiful melange of citrus, white peach and honey with a delicate floral aroma. The finish was unctuous without being obtrusive. A hint of spice on the finish just allows it to linger on the palate. The only unfortunate part of the evening was recalling at the end of the meal that this was my one and only bottle. (2911 views)
Tasted by Matt Scott on 12/10/2016 & rated 95 points: Tasted 11/25/13

-Stone fruit, marble, dried quince, straw and vog-filled air. The finish sails and drifts with an array of stupendous fruit, stellar richness and endurance. One of the best white blends around, and every year is its own island. I love how there's an underlying brightness and upfront unctuousness. Drink 2013 - 2020. (2217 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 9/10/2016: Fall auctions return - Acker Sept 2016 (Marea in NYC): Manfred's whites are so fun and distinctive. It's glycerin and hints of sweetness and lime and it feels like this full mouthful and quite over the top except somehow he's extracted a nice acidity to it and so the wine all comes together. Perhaps not my absolute favorite of his whites, but very enjoyable nonetheless. (2671 views)
Tasted by mike l. on 5/29/2016 & rated 96 points: exceptional. right up there with the best whites ive had. he nails it on complexity and balance. each sip is an adventure, it's like listening to a fine symphony, so many key parts in harmony. (2611 views)
Tasted by KenK on 5/25/2016 & rated 93 points: Waxy rich aroma with a sweet hint of exotic fruits. Excellent ripeness and depth with rich full round flavors featuring beeswax, honey, and lite pears. Nice bite to the finish and well balanced. Pretty impressive and one of the best SQN whites in a very long time. These clearly have aged great. Actually quite pretty. Had with Burgundy Al who did not care for the wine (see his note), but important to note he was all alone in that sentiment and the bottle was sucked dry quickly. (2627 views)

2009 Sine Qua Non On The Lam

The first wine to be hawked here is our 2009 White Wine, which is to be graced by this new D.H. label. The attempted use of this label has been running the gauntlet. And since this wine sees the return of Chardonnay as part of the blend, the inclusion of which has long been looked upon as sheer heresy by those who place predictability above all, I have decided to call this wine ON THE LAM. Or I better say I would like to call it that because as of this writing the tax paid Inquisitors have moved at such a glacial pace that I still do not even have an answer if it might be inoffensive enough to avoid the thumbs down, but get the permitting rubber stamp instead.
The wine itself is a cuvée of 48%Roussanne, 35% Chardonnay and 17% Viognier.

White Blend

"White blend" means the wine is made from a blend of two or more different white varieties - or in some cases a blend of pink or red varieties that are vinified white, ie. without any skin contact.
A blend of Antao, Arinto, Rouperio.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
