Decanted about 2 hrs . No formal tasting notes but was very nice with full body some vanilla and nicely dense (222 views) | | Tasted by MarkRichards on 11/11/2023 & rated 94 points: S8limply stunning. Cedar, tobacco, dark spices, tar., and blackberry. Hint of vanilla. Perfectly structured. Getting better.... (227 views) | | Tasted by bin905 on 8/31/2023 & rated 94 points: Has everything. (218 views) | | Tasted by bin905 on 8/9/2022 & rated 91 points: Powerful. (644 views) | | Tasted by BURGHen Boy on 3/26/2022 & rated 91 points: Not much of a nose. Grape flavors on the P&P. Developed into darker blue fruit a touch of wood and finishing tannin. Earth and forest floor rounds out the flavors. Aging has treated this bottle nicely. (797 views) | | Tasted by jsherdc on 1/13/2022 & rated 93 points: Still delicious. Blackberry. Long and rich. Balanced to my palate. (826 views) | | Tasted by Winevestor on 12/29/2021 & rated 91 points: Stewed plum and chocolate on the nose. Just starting to turn color. Hi acidity. Mid palate fruit. Plum (less stewed in the mouth). Good tannin backbone. Drinking well. Big mouthfeel and long finish. Bright wine - clear and precise. Its got several years left on the drinking window, but I don't think will get much better. Classic harder oak (not toasty). Not what I expected - I thought it would be more fruity. But I'm fine with this. This was in a flight of 3 tempranillos: 1/ 2007 San Roman (Toro), 2/ 2004 Villacreces (Ribera del Duero) and 3/ 2008 Lopez de Heredia Reserve Bosconia. Normally I would have thought that that the Lopez would be my favorite, then RdD and lastly the Toro. In fact, altough they were all different wines, they had similar scoresL 1/ - 91, 2/ - 92 and 3/ - 91. My learning? I'll pay more attention to RdD and Toro in future!. (825 views) | | Tasted by Mnawacki on 1/8/2021 & rated 91 points: Wonderful bottle, drank alongside an Ostoki from Luis Moya on a casual Friday. This Toro displayed a meaty body and texture, beautiful fruit, so lush and delicious. (1159 views) | | Tasted by PSUSteve on 12/28/2020 & rated 92 points: PnP. Not for the oak sensitive. Deep and full-bodied with plum, coffee and cassis. (1053 views) | | Tasted by td1836 on 7/14/2020 & rated 92 points: Dark fruits, some stem flavors, tannins are well integrated at this point. The exuberant fruit this had in it’s youth has somewhat faded to the background, and is pretty balanced right now. (1222 views) | | Tasted by shaffej on 5/23/2020 & rated 87 points: Muddy and tannic (1106 views) | | Tasted by Kentw on 3/16/2019 & rated 91 points: Full body, intense, full of dark fruits and mild finishing tannin with drying notes. Black cherry, balsamic and licorice with some dark chocolate/cocoa powder. A powerful wine for those who like this style. Not for those who like pinot styled wines. Last bottle of 07 will see how the 09 compares. Day 2 it was somewhat softer, smoother with dark berry and chocolate notes, heavy but quite pleasant. rate a 90 on day 1, and 91+ on day 2. (1671 views) | | Tasted by D.Callahan on 10/27/2018 & rated 90 points: Very nice and balanced tinta de Toro wine aged for 25 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels. Very much enjoyed by all my guests. Oak did not overwhelm the fruit and the 14.5% ABV was not intrusive at all. Delicious. (1618 views) | | Tasted by Kentw on 9/5/2018 & rated 90 points: Some variation with this bottle. Strong dark fruit notes but slightly bitter dark chocolate notes seemed to predominate. (1798 views) | | Tasted by DenverShiraz on 8/24/2018 & rated 95 points: Phenomenal- big, bold and sexy! (1620 views) | | Tasted by Rich S on 7/21/2018 & rated 87 points: End of night wine. Too oaky for me. Still nice dark red fruits but more oak and vanilla and chocolate flavor than fruit. Slightly soft on the palate as well. Others enjoyed this much more than I did. (1805 views) | | Tasted by SpoochMan on 7/18/2018: Donated to CSHL course. (1475 views) | | Tasted by dgcberman on 5/20/2018 & rated 94 points: Beautiful aromatics of dark fleshy fruit, framed by mature, sweet oak.
Rich, and complexly flavored and textured. Balanced. Tannins resolved on the palate, seemingly peak time to drink. Delicious. (1625 views) | | Tasted by Quarked on 3/25/2018 & rated 92 points: This may (?) be passing peak, but I've learned not to count this wine out too soon. Tobacco, pencil lead, dark fruits, cocoa, some oaky vanilla. Tannins are resolved, but this is still thick, dark and full bodied. Lovely wine that is a perennial favorite. (1466 views) | | Tasted by Kentw on 3/19/2018 & rated 91 points: Full body, almost black color, with black fruits - blackberry, licorice, dark cherry and heavy balsamic. Some subdued spice in mid palate and a touch of intensity on the finish. Tannin have mellowed and hardly noticeable. Just a powerful and very solid Tempranillo. It is at a good drinking point at this time and may be able to last for a while longer. (1461 views) | | Tasted by gajalaa on 2/10/2018 & rated 91 points: Same as the night before but at a different restaurant and with Lazy Lobster this time Dark violet color, lush black fruit, some tobacco, licorice and chocolate earthiness. Wine is drinking well and has great body and life left. Too bad that is my last one (1350 views) | | Tasted by gajalaa on 2/9/2018 & rated 91 points: Dark violet color, lush black fruit, some tobacco, licorice and chocolate earthiness. Wine is drinking well and has great body and life left. (1317 views) | | Tasted by pgb67 on 12/31/2017 & rated 94 points: Holidays 2017: A very polarizing bottle (but not wine, this brand has a following I’ve come to learn - I thought it was a discovery of mine alone!) – it opened wonderfully with a perfumed bouquet of violet, a long, elegant mouth, and a satisfying palate of cherry and tobacco. But over time it became denser and even picked up a cardboard nose (more apparent to the sensitive tasters (corked?)), yet hours later it returned to its original form. I will rate it on its good hours and forget about the bad times. (1645 views) | | Tasted by Mnawacki on 9/9/2017 & rated 91 points: Loved this! Beautiful full and lush fruit, soft tannins, drinks beautifully. (1809 views) | | Tasted by gajalaa on 6/17/2017 & rated 91 points: Very nice, drinking well right now but still has a few years left! Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net
Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial).
