Tasted by djjagdish on 1/11/2024 & rated 96 points: Singed alder, raspberry coulis, bay leaf, graphite, black cherry, and sandalwood compliment each other perfectly in this beautiful CdP. Could cellar for a few more years, but for me this has it all going on right now. Sublime after 1 hr decant paired with braised pork shoulder (607 views)
Tasted by joelmark3 on 11/24/2023 & rated 94 points: This is just plain good! All aspects are aligned to offer the drinker a smooth well crafted experience (640 views)
Tasted by rm97 on 5/20/2023 & rated 95 points: This keeps on getting better and better. Wonderful place right now. (1031 views)
Tasted by lkilpio on 12/7/2022 & rated 94 points: This particular bottle may have been slightly corked, but the wine was convincing and pleasant anyway. The tannins had already softened, but there was still plenty of fruit left. The aromas and flavors of dark fruits and berries, herbs and spices were appealing, but the wine is also providing interesting notes of metal, minerals and smoke, maybe due to aging. As a whole, the wine was rich and balanced now. It went really well with the reindeer flat bone meat during the evening meal of the Finnish Independence Day. (1460 views)
Tasted by williamswhine on 10/29/2022 & rated 94 points: Dark hue. Earthy, dark berries, little spice on the nose. Wonderful CDP. Powerful wine that still has a lot of age remaining. Easy to drink with or without food. This was a gift from a friend received years ago. Popped open to help celebrate. The juice was a real treat-- thanks Jeff and Ann. (1508 views)
Tasted by Twowinechicks on 5/13/2022 & rated 91 points: Dark red-purple, heady brambly and cassis nose, much more savory than I recalled, and still qualifies as a bruiser, with pretty high alcohol (14.5%?) well integrated. There was a time when we thought these CdP wines were the cat’s meow, and yes, they are often/can often be quite enjoyable although our tastes have definitely changed. (1589 views)
Tasted by rm97 on 11/10/2021 & rated 94 points: Took an hour to open up and then lovely. (1842 views)
95 (2033 views)
 Tasted by rm97 on 8/26/2021 & rated 94 points: Lovely. (1565 views)
Tasted by Simoncino on 5/25/2021 & rated 94 points: Clean, vibrant, elegant, yet very young. Still many layers to discover beneath the surface, revealing itself a bit more on day two. Will try again in five years and then 10, should I or the wine be so lucky to make it. (1707 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 4/11/2021: This is a wonderful wine. Yes, modern in the sense that not pure light garrigue style of yesteryear, but the fruit here is pure and in balance and not stewed or excessively ripe. 10 Years on, not falling apart and aging gracefully. Beautiful wine (1539 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 3/6/2020: Opened on a whim for a visitor. Every bit as good as it was almost 3 years ago to the day. This is a highbrow CdP, meaning refined, almost elegant. Highly recommended. Drink or hold. (2541 views)
Tasted by Marc on 11/19/2019 & rated 93 points: Pop and pour - peanuts, bramble, raspberry, thyme - gorgeous fruit aromas. On the palate, extremely tannic, structured, big-boned, and high in alcohol (15%). Very pure and refined, and savoury, with superb length, which features a very tannic-drying finish. There is certainly noticeable bottle age development on this wine - it certainly is no longer a youngster - but the awesome structure, together with the purity of fruit expression leads me to believe this has a great future and should improve... 93+ (2274 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 10/29/2019 & rated 93 points: Smooth beyond compare. As densely woven and silky as an egyprltian sheet. Super pure. A wine that smiles. (2263 views)

Tasted by SonnyChiba on 5/24/2019 & rated 91 points: Solid CDP wine. Don’t drink these as often as I used but still enjoy this style, great with Brazilian churrasco. (2441 views)
Tasted by bboomer on 5/16/2019 & rated 95 points: Perfectly balanced - fruit, tannin's, acidity...made for a wonderful mouthfeel. Vintage 2010 drinking perfectly right now! Enjoy. (2097 views)
Tasted by isbjoern on 4/5/2019 & rated 91 points: Warm and very ripe fruit verging on overripe, at 18°C this was slightly hot and disjointed, sweet cherry liqueur, olive tapenade, clean fruit flavors (no brett), still a bit tight and tannic, although the fruit shows first signs of age, medium acidity, lovely juicy texture, a bit one-dimensional maybe, but I like this vintage much better than the candy-like 2007. Drink now or over the next 4 years. - 91 points (1952 views)
Tasted by au96alum on 11/22/2018 & rated 90 points: I don't buy French wine very often. This was a little too "spicy" for me but it was still good. I was hoping for a nice French wood barrel hint but I didn't get any. I think I will stick to my Italian and California wines that I am accustom to and leave the French to the baking only. (2527 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 7/31/2018 & rated 92 points: I was a bit disappointed with this bottle. I gave it a quick decant and only got a strong sense of alcohol and wood. It did not improve overnight. (2706 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 4/7/2018: PNP and very nice wine....good fruit but no heat and not overly ripe....modern I guess but all in balance and some traditional elements. I really like these wines. (2864 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 9/4/2017 & rated 93 points: Weekly tasting group RWP #263: Vincent's return :-) (@ VD): Expressive and beautiful, spicy and concentrated bouquet with good garrigue. On the palate a beautiful and juicy wine as well with black berries, herbs and spices like e.g. white pepper, juicy acidity, round tannin and a firm amount of alcohol which is not disturbing. 92 - 93 (4289 views)
Tasted by walla_wallou on 7/1/2017 & rated 92 points: Floral and black fruit nose, nice fruit, good balance, good length, will open the next bottle in 5 years. (3778 views)
Tasted by cardsandwine on 5/23/2017: Isabel Ferrando dinner at Tribecca Grill. A blend of 82% Grenache and 10% Cincault, 8% Syrah that is aged for 18 months, 50% in concrete and 50% in aged wood. A full bodied, lush wine that exhibits velvet tannins and excellent length. This should drink well for years to come (3528 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 3/12/2017 & rated 95 points: 15% alcohol. 82% Grenache, 10% cinsault, 8% Syrah. Decanted. Brilliant, young CdP. Cherry and anise. Smooth tannin, no heat. L-o-n-g finish. Highly recommended. (4080 views)

Domaine Saint Préfert

Producer website - Read more about Domaine Saint Prefert
Isabel Ferrando purchased this old Châteauneuf domaine from the Serre family in 2002. In 1920, Fernand Serre bought the property, located in the southern quarter of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and became one of the first in the region to estate-bottle his production. Isabel is now the guardian of very old vines, mostly Grenache, some of which are over 100 years old. Although the domaine was never very well-known before, Isabel’s intention, with the assistance of star oenologist Philippe Cambi and under the tutelage of Henri Bonneau, is to produce wines that can rival the very best of the appellation. She practices organic farming, crop-thinning to ensure low yields, aging in demi-muids and small oak barrels, and bottling without filtration. © Michael Skurnik Wines.

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.

"As I have written many times in the past, the sweet spot for drinking Châteauneuf du Papes is usually the first 5-6 years after the vintage. Then they seem to go through an adolescent, awkward, and sometimes dormant stage, only to re-emerge around year 10-12, where the majority of wines are often fully mature. The best of them will continue to hold on to life (but rarely improving) beyond 15-20 years. It is only the exceptional Châteauneuf du Papes that will evolve for 20-25+ years, and those are indeed a rarity. However, things may be improving dramatically in terms of the longevity of Châteauneuf du Pape, although Grenache-dominated wines, the vast majority of wines produced in the appellation, are wines that do not have the polyphenol (extract and tannin) content of top Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, or Syrah-based wines. Nevertheless, the younger generation in Châteauneuf du Pape has taken seriously the farming in the vineyards. There are more organic and biodynamically run vineyards here than in any other appellation of France. The yields, which were already low, are even lower today (20-35 hectoliters per hectare), and of course, the proliferation of top luxury and/or old-vine cuvées gives a significant boost to the number of wines that will evolve past 25 or 30 years. The advantage of these wines is their broad window of drinkability." - Robert Parker
