Tasted by Pj kure on 12/24/2019 & rated 92 points: For a merlot this wine is excellent. Better than many cabs. Especially if you don’t want a heavier red. (1306 views)
Tasted by jerrysvino on 12/22/2019 & rated 93 points: The wine looks purple colored. The legs are medium. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like flint, rose and red currant. It tastes like red currant. The body is medium/full. The wine has satin-like texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity. (1205 views)
Tasted by ragtop on 5/11/2019 & rated 95 points: Excellent bottle of merlot. The color is a deep dark purple with a hint of color change to brown at the edges (very subtle). The nose is a powerful bouquet of fruit that is dark but not overripe. The palate is perfectly balanced at this point. There is hardly a hint of tannin. We opened this about 30min before lunch and had some about 8hrs later and it had died. If you have it I believe now is the time to drink it. It is not likely to benefit from further time in the bottle, althought it should be fine for a couple of years. no need to decant this in my opinion. Enjoy (1461 views)
Tasted by swade on 3/5/2017 & rated 91 points: Deep purple. Supple entry. Plums. Bramble. This is in it's window. I like merlot. Better than the average bear. 91 (2837 views)
Tasted by Intellectual Sasquatch on 11/5/2016 & rated 89 points: Very disappointed. Decent tannin structure after 1.5 hour decant, but didn't get any opulence or big fruit (per most of the reviews). Definitely drinkable, but I'm glad I only purchased 1 bottle at 50 something bones. Just purchased about a month ago - maybe purchasing older wines like this leaves me open to some risk of mishandling? (2941 views)
Tasted by pitcrewstrategist on 4/29/2016 & rated 91 points: Dark color is astonishing - bold merlot. Rich finish with lots of tannins for a merlot- a merlot that drinks like a cab. Dark fruits, plum and charry come out. This is truly napa all the way and YUMMM! (2671 views)
Tasted by brockley23 on 3/7/2016 & rated 96 points: Drinking amazingly right now. Pure fruit, integrated oak, supple, juicy, delicious! (2683 views)
Tasted by CompanyOfWolves on 4/17/2015 & rated 91 points: Dark garnet color. Rich velvety finish with very smooth tannins. The body of this wine's complexity is managed by contrasting the the juicy dark plum and cherry fruit against the relatively high alcohol content. This is one of those classic Napa merlots you hear about. No mistaking it for a French Merlot. :-) (3382 views)
Tasted by FMRsommelier on 3/8/2015 & rated 93 points: Robe rubis moyenne. Nez imposant de fruits rouges et cacao. En bouche, le vin est d’un fruité exemplaire sur une matière solide. Des tanins finement taillés enrobent le tout. Finale en longueur. Superbe (2529 views)
Tasted by jkvedar on 11/20/2014 & rated 88 points: This one needs about 30 minutes to wake up. Then lots of dark fruit, cedar on the nose. Unidimensional on the palate. Finish unremarkable. (2486 views)
Tasted by kroes on 10/15/2014 & rated 91 points: Lucious nose of cherry, cedar and cinnamon. Juicy appealing merlot as usual from Plumpjack. Little on the sweet side but still very good. (2405 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 10/12/2014 & rated 91 points: Second Sunday Group: 2010 California Merlot (Our house): Aromas of spice, dark fruit and chocolate. Firm sweet tannins, but nicely balanced by the abundant fruit- cherries and plum- mostly dark fruit, with chocolate and spice underneath. Finishes well, with good length. 91+ pts.

Tasted by skifree on 7/14/2014 & rated 89 points: First Plumpjack for me. Nose was interesting, black tea, cedar, tar, alcohol, some fruit. Initially very sweet in the mouth, then the cedar, vanillin, and tannins kick in. Fairly long finish, if a bit drying. (2132 views)
Tasted by PDD on 3/15/2014 & rated 95 points: Very hard to find a merlot that beats Plumpjack, especially in this price range (50). (2238 views)
Tasted by Trolson on 12/22/2013 & rated 91 points: Great wine. And, make sure to decant at least two hours. (2018 views)
Tasted by cknibb on 11/20/2013 & rated 91 points: Always good. (2187 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 11/4/2013: Dark core with reddish purple rim; vanilla, cream, blackberry, plum, sweet; redder fruit on the palate, plum, ripe, good balance, fleshy, a little cedar; a tasty wine to share with Luda. (1977 views)
Tasted by Winoluver on 7/17/2013 & rated 92 points: AGM
Had this as my pairing for a Chocolate Cake wt Dewars Raspberry Sauce at a tasting event. Great choice. Cocoa finish & small traces of tannins were perfect for the dessert. Wine worked well wt food & works well alone. Guests at dinner loved it, but who doesn't love PlumpJack!!?? (2533 views)
Tasted by swade on 6/24/2013 & rated 91 points: Aromas of black fruit and oak imparted vanilla. Rich entry. This offers black and red fruits and cinnamon dust. This was impressive. Buy. 91 (2225 views)
Tasted by ghobby on 6/6/2013 & rated 90 points: Was best on the first night; still an excellent wine (2049 views)
Tasted by TheDarkPrince on 4/29/2013 & rated 92 points: Very modern style for a merlot. Not for everybody. Steeped with vanilla and super-sweet fruits. We are enjoying this, but one bottle is enuf for the evening!

Very dark, round full fruits on the palette. Figs, black plums and super sweet prunes. Doesn't read sexy, but trust me, it just like a 'one night stand'. Drunk alongside Ch Nenin 1998. Error of judgement on my part. But I needed the 'instant gratification' fix. Napa is easily accessible, the Bordeaux requires a deeper mental investment. Just for the record, I enjoyed both for different reasons.

Tasted by BK29 on 4/13/2013 & rated 92 points: This little baby really impressed me. 39 bucks. Very expressive, raspberry, currant And mint mixed with forest floor. Wife absolutely loved it thats reason enough to get more esp. At this price. Good one. (2454 views)
Tasted by bzell on 3/2/2013 & rated 92 points: No notes taken but opened the wine blind to everyone and all the comments were very positive, great color, strong aromas on the nose, on the palate well balanced tastes with a very long finish. (1897 views)
Tasted by DavidDay on 11/16/2012 & rated 90 points: Subtle fruit on the nose, some vanilla, velvety mouth feel with a long finish, a merlot that tastes like merlot (2270 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
