| Community Tasting Notes (average 88.7 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by vin0vin0 on 3/30/2015 & rated 88 points: Very nice, somewhat aged Napa syrah. Subtle nose of black cherry and black licorice. On the palate more of the licorice comes out with some earthiness, crisp acidity and muted dark fruit. The tannins are nicely integrated and fine grained and the finish is of medium length. (1135 views) | | Tasted by bussola on 11/20/2011 & rated 88 points: A lovely wine coming into its own after a decade. Softer tannins, mild fruit. Enjoyed with: eggplant parmigiana, and a "winter torte" (Chicken dark meat, chicken sausages, apricots and apples in a bread -crust pie). Not a fruit bomb. Would have enjoyed more fruit and complexity, but an usual touch to the earth. (2110 views) | | Tasted by mpa2 on 7/16/2009 & rated 90 points: Nice and deep. Healdsburg, Alexander Valley. (2661 views) | | Tasted by skipw on 2/23/2008: Excellent in every way. Served with beef stew that paired very well. Very rich and robust with fine finish. (3059 views) | | Tasted by klmarshall on 10/14/2007 & rated 90 points: Decanted. A bit hard edged at first, but settled down after about 45 minutes. Nice fruit and spice. We enjoyed it. (3040 views) | | Tasted by hutch on 9/7/2007 & rated 88 points: Hans Kruger Tasting: I always make a special effort to try the Double Gold awarded wine of the North of the Gate Wine Competition. This one has a lovely nose, with a touch of white pepper, and good fruit. A nice wine, but I'm not sure about the second gold. I think one might have been sufficient. 87-88 (3056 views) | | Tasted by NW_HURLEY on 1/2/2007 & rated 93 points: Excellent representative Syrah, full bodied fruit with being a so-called "fruit-bomb." Distinct floral components, mainly rose and lilac complement very light hints of vanilla oak. Even though the bottle is still young, it is very approachable alone or paired with food. (2157 views) | | Tasted by ProBob on 2/28/2006: Dramatic aromas of rich dark fruits, roasted coffee and earthy spices, absolutely yummy! Double Gold North of the Gate Wine Competition. (2231 views) |

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
