Tasted by Cabbies Dad on 5/31/2023: Drank with Rich and Maureen. It was still really good! (321 views)
Tasted by Cohn Man on 12/18/2021 & rated 88 points: Ok (701 views)
Tasted by classicalspin on 9/22/2021: Damn. I had high expectations for this one, not the least of which I thought it would be ready to drink. Twenty four years? Come on. Decanted it for a full day, poured back in the bottle and presented it at dinner. It did not show well at all. Barbaresco is supposed to be a bit more feminine and drink a bit younger than Barolo. If so -- this is a butch of a wine. Darker in color than any Barolo I've had, it tasted young and tight -- with a massive almost overpowering frame and the hint the dark cherry fruit was in there. Somewhere. I corked it (we substituted an Amarone at dinner) took it home and tried it over the next two days. It softened just a bit, but never seemed to integrate. Made the balance my Sunday cigar wine. I think I might give this another 10 years in the bottle and try it again, if I'm still living. I still have faith somehow this will integrate. Perhaps my daughter can enjoy it on her 40th birthday. Sheesh. (834 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 1/31/2019 & rated 91 points: Long lunch at Kel's (Kelvin and Joyce's Place, Bishan): Still young and tight, but there is quite bit to like in this wine. The nose was classic Piedmont, with red cherry fruit laced with notes of earth and tar, herbs and dried roses. The palate was still coated with a layer of challengingly chewy tannins and a good bit of bright acidity, but there werr also gobs of warm 1997 fruit underlying that - lots of ripe cherries and dark berries, cassis almost, and then sprigs of herb and spice pulled into a long finish on a bed of more firm tannins. A bit too tough for my liking right now, but the raw materials are good. I would leave this aside and come back to it in 10 years or so. (2201 views)
Tasted by sbwino on 12/5/2018 & rated 87 points: Decanted for 1 hour. Maroon Light Brick Red Color. Aromatic nose. Still has decent structure and acidity. Some initial bright notes, but a fairly short finish. This is a good food wine, but nothing stunning here. (1913 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 10/2/2017 & rated 91 points: Very similar tonight compared to my note from 2010. This wine has bright acidity, lovely color and a muted nose. Candied cherry, fairly ripe. Tannins are softening. (2917 views)
Tasted by Outplaying on 8/23/2017: Decanted for about an hour. Classic tar and hints of roses and mint on the nose. Smells great. Darker toned fruit, with lots of acidity. A touch more dense than the Marcarini and Ann preferred this one. Very good. I wish I had more. (2431 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 6/20/2017: Lee's 40th $80+ Double Blind (Roswell, GA): Poured out a small glass and gave 2 hours of air; maroon core with brick amber rim; initially this was classic aged Nebbiolo almost smelling a little tired, changed with increased airtime, fennel, hints at soy, wilted rose, cherry, darker, almost stewed fruit, tea, meaty, aged but still good freshness; resolved tannin, good meaty texture, sour dark cherry, still good acid, sweet leather, slight mineral and a touch of spice and cinnamon on finish; some calling Burgundy, but most knew this as Nebbiolo. (2982 views)
Tasted by Rezy13 on 8/10/2016 & rated 93 points: Ridiculously low ratings by unnamed critic this wine is beautiful now, color and bricking is correct for age, nose shows tar and sweet medicinal cherry, roses, mint is strong now giving this wine nice character, fennel, hinting at soy but quite fresh when compared to most '97s, digging deeper there is an amazing oolong black tea note that sealed the deal-I need some, great rich ripe texture and fruit profile that is very impressive.  Tasted by MindMuse on 2/6/2014 & rated 75 points: Pretty far gone, except for copious sediment. (1565 views)
Tasted by winemaker on 8/23/2010 & rated 91 points: Lovely medium red with some brownish tint sneaking in. At 13 years this wine needed plenty of air to strut its stuff. I poured it into 2 375s last night and then decanted it tonight for about an hour. Subdued nose showing a bit of minerals and secondary bottle aromas. Much better with food due to the firm tannins and bright acidity present. Tastes of intense tart cherries, and minerals. Some tar was present early on, but now it is not as noticeable. It will be interesting to see if this wine improves with a bit more age. (3850 views)
(3544 views)
Tasted by Greg_O on 7/13/2008 & rated 92 points: Cherry, plums, earth, and black tea. Nice finish. One of the better Barbaresco's I ever had. Had some Barolo characteristics without the huge tannins. (3619 views)
Tasted by kuentz bas on 4/11/2008: won't purchase again...not impressive at all (1421 views)
Tasted by Dale M on 11/20/2005 & rated 90 points: Served with Gorgonzola penne pasta with walnuts and free-range chicken – Decanted 1 hr. A sexy nose of strawberry, kirsch, spice box and a good dose of asphalt. Very Chateauneuf-like and very exotic. Bright red cherries and violets on the palate, and then BOOM! A wave of acidity attacks the gums with full force. The smooth tannins on the finish provide a well-deserved rest from that acid assault; a wine that demands rich food as serving this at cocktail hour might have your guests running for the door. I still think this will really be singing in another 2 – 3 years, but I really enjoyed this a lot. (2013 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
