Tasted by Paschap on 12/17/2023 & rated 92 points: Рубиновый цвет средней плотности, по краю с гранатовым оттенком, прозрачное. Чёрные ягоды, джем, бальзамик, лакрица, горький шоколад, чёрный перец, чернослив, ваниль, сливки, скотик, шерсть, трюфель. Во вкусе среднее тело, кислотность выше среднего, мягкие обволакивающие танины. Удовольствие! 92/100 (536 views)
Tasted by rupertg on 1/22/2023 & rated 88 points: Black centre, red rim. Drinking well. Nose mute but juicy fruit in the mouth, tannins soft, lingers well. Savoury finish. (1454 views)
Tasted by PickingByHand on 1/5/2023 & rated 90 points: Initial strong bretty aroma - not unpleasant but a little distracting - that blew off after 30mins. Medium-bodied, primary plum and black fruits yielding to smoky cedar flavours. Slightly astringent after a few hours; any remaining bottles to be consumed in the next couple of years. (1160 views)
Tasted by rjsmall on 8/21/2022: Very pleasant claret that is drinking nicely. Nice red colour with slight brown on the edge. Cassis, blackcurrant and a touch of earthiness. Drinking nicely. Good match for roast beef. (1624 views)
Tasted by rstark on 5/2/2022 & rated 91 points: Final bottle and it was very pleasant. Very earthy, but enough fruit to balance it out, and not overly bretty like the one 6 months ago. I'm learning that when there is brett, there is often bottle variation as well. (1743 views)
Tasted by rupertg on 1/7/2022 & rated 89 points: Black/red, fruit leading tannin, rich and delicious. Think I enjoy d’Angludet most in this mid range. Copes well with food. (1944 views)
 Tasted by exonian on 12/25/2021 & rated 90 points: ( From a 375 ml bottle )
Fully mature and ready to drink in this format. Garnet with slight fading at the rim, the nose is a mix of cassis, cigar box, delicate violets, raspberry confiture, and spicy plums .On the palate, smooth and mature with sufficient acidity and tannins, there are satisfying mature flavours of dry plums. A well rounded and polished claret in a difficult vintage. Drink up over the next 2-3 years. (1173 views)
Tasted by SimonHea on 12/12/2021 & rated 86 points: Drank this with some simple fried steak; a good match with the wine delivering just ripe red and black plums with some just ripe roast strawberries, slight balsamic notes and a touch of pencil & cigar box and vanilla hints but not a huge amount more. Just about enough fruit, acidity and tannins to hold for a few more years but not convinced how or if tertiaries will develop. All in all a perfectly decent wine but far from outstanding. (1270 views)
Tasted by Tom Rodger on 10/17/2021: Very good Margaux and the 2012 is drinking very well. Black fruit, oak, vanilla and cigar box. Good length on the finish. (1360 views)
Tasted by auldalliance on 7/11/2021: Some signs of age on the rim. Light, delicate fruit, tannins barely noticeable, but probably needing drunk soon. (1520 views)
Tasted by vide on 7/10/2021 & rated 91 points: This wine deserves more points that it has received so far. Given the 2012 vintage, this is a wine of depth and potential complexitiy. Nose = still a little closed, but with depth; on the mouth = suprising depth, a geat deal of dark but soft tannin.
Well, d'Angludet. What am I to make of you? Your reputation seems to have declined recently, but here I think you have proved your pundits wrong.

This is not fine wine qua fine (because Listrac is just around the corner), but I remain impressed. And I will buy more of Chateau d' Angludet.

Bonne Nuite.

Tasted by rupertg on 4/23/2021 & rated 89 points: Ruby red, dark centre, rim beginning to dull. Still stains the glass. Surprisingly little nose. Smooth and full in the mouth, initial hint of earthiness / violet hint but then great fruit in the middle and an enjoyable finish, with the classic savoury notes. Drinking really well now. (1500 views)
Tasted by Baard Iver on 11/30/2020 & rated 90 points: Utrolig flott, dyp, kompleks. Toppvin for meg. (2257 views)
Tasted by rstark on 10/22/2020: Came in last place out of eight cab blends $25-$70. Was way too stinky ... almost flawed. I've had other bottles of this wine that had some earth, but didn't have this problem. Maybe some bottle variation? Or fruit is fading and unpleasant secondaries taking over? (2033 views)
Tasted by iwhawkes@yahoo.co.uk on 6/27/2020: Gave to David as a thank you. (1896 views)
Tasted by ajburgess88 on 6/27/2020 & rated 86 points: No real nose, a little alcoholic perhaps. Nice fruits cassis, blackcurrant, slightly astringent finish (2177 views)
Tasted by Abski on 4/11/2020 & rated 91 points: Love this wine (2090 views)
Tasted by cbajustin on 3/19/2020 & rated 90 points: Typical earthy funk on the nose. After 1.5 hrs the fruit finally starts to shine through & is quite delicious. For the style I’d give it a 91 but for my taste an 89. (1577 views)
Tasted by ajburgess88 on 2/10/2020 & rated 88 points: No real nose, but very enjoyable, fruit still very much apparent, slightly dry finish. May wait a few years for the other bottles (1439 views)
Tasted by auldalliance on 7/18/2019: Lovely nose of blackcurrants, red fruits and a little spice.

Quite light on the palate reflecting the vintage, but some tannins still evident.

A very nice example of this from a lesser vintage. We Coravined two glasses of 1989 as a comparison. Latter was fading a bit, but more complex. (2338 views)
Tasted by Geoffy on 5/16/2019 & rated 89 points: PnP. I'm really enjoying this. Despite the nondescript nose, the flavours are full but the wine is elegant and everything is balanced. The finish is medium and ever so slightly disjointed, but I'm very happy to have 5 more. (2115 views)
Tasted by MrBjorn on 4/6/2019 & rated 87 points: Weak structure, too little tannins and fruit. Nose is nice with prunes, blackcurrant and cedar. (2080 views)
Tasted by MrBjorn on 2/3/2019 & rated 89 points: Cassis, leather, tobacco and cedar. Well balanced and nice length. (2289 views)
Tasted by RockinCabs on 12/31/2018 & rated 89 points: Another beautiful bottle that delivered complex aromatics of cherry, cassis, violets, wild flowers, cedar and loamy earth. Lot of.margaux typicity here. Great length and just missing the palate feel snd complexity to warrant higher score. Strong entry level offering. (2310 views)
Tasted by Hookedforlife on 12/23/2018 & rated 91 points: Drank a bit chilled at 18c, really good claret. Lots of fruit and a medium to long finish with that typical classic bordeaux finish. Surprisingly good. Bought after union grand cru tasting amsterdam in 2015 if i recall. Good qpr. (1638 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

Médoc

VdB

The eight precisely defined appellations of the whole of the Médoc (from Blanquefort Brook to the north of the Bordeaux built-up area, almost to the Pointe de Grave) may claim the Médoc appellation. But there is also a specific territory in the north of the peninsula which produces exclusively wines with this appellation. In the great majority, the Médocs come from the north of the peninsula. The great individuality of this region is that the number of vines has increased more recently here than elsewhere, apart from a few isolated spots where vines have grown for many years. Today, the size of the small estate has brought about the development of a powerful co-operative movement. Four co-operatives out of five belong to the group called Unimédoc which ensures aging, bottling and marketing a large proportion of their wines.

Margaux

Read more about Margaux and its wines As with a large part of the Bordeaux vineyards, vines first appeared in Margaux during the Gallo-Roman period.
In 1705 a text mentions Château Margaux . But we have to wait for the end of the eighteenth century and the coming of the earliest techniques in aging for the concept of wines of high quality to develop. The confirmation of this was the famous 1855 classification which recognized 21 Crus Classés in the Margaux appellation. One hundred years later, the Viticultural Federation and the Margaux appellation of controlled origin were born. The appellation, which stretches out over five communes, is actually unique in the Médoc in that it is the only one to contain all the range of wines, as rich as they are vast, from First Great Cru Classé to the Fifths, not forgetting its famous Crus Bourgeois and its Crus Artisans.

In Margaux there is a predominance of Garonne gravel on a central plateau of about 4 miles in length and one and a quarter wide. To the east-south-east, it overlooks the low lying land by the estuary. Its east side is marked by gentle, dry valleys and a succession of ridges. The layer of gravel in Margaux was spread out by a former Garonne in the early Quaternary. Rather large in size, it is mingled with shingle of average dimension and represents the finest ensemble of Günz gravel in the Haut-Médoc. It is on this ancient layer on a Tertiary terrace of limestone or clayey marl that the best Médoc crus lie. All the conditions for successful wine are present : a large amount of gravel and pebbles, poor soil which cannot retain water and deep rooted vines.

It is customary to say that Margaux wines are the "most feminine" in the Médoc, thus stressing their delicacy, suppleness and their fruity, elegant aromas. This does not affect their great propensity for aging; just the opposite, for the relatively thin terroir imparts tannins which give them long life. The other characteristic of these wines which combine an elegant vitality, subtlety and consistency, is their diversity and personality. Over and above the flavour which is their "common denominator", they present an exceptional palette of bouquets, fruity flavours which show up differently from one château to another.

Production conditions (Decree dated August 10 1954)
In order to have the right to the Margaux appellation of controlled origin, red wines must:

- come from the commune of Margaux, Cantenac, Soussans, Arsac and Labarde, "excluding the land which by the nature of its soil or because of its situation, is unfit to produce wine of this appellation".
- satisfy precise production conditions: grape-varieties (Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet-Franc, Carmenère, Merlot Noir, Petit Verdot, Cot or Malbec), minimum of sugar (178 grammes - 6.27 oz. - per litre of must) degree (an acquired 10°5) base yield (45 hectolitres per hectare).

Vins de Bordeaux:
Grape Varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Merlot
Soil: Gravel and silt plateau on a layer of limestone or silt on clay
Surface Area: 1,530 ha
