Tasted by RDB Wine on 9/10/2020 & rated 95 points: Drank from cellar with Wally. Light spice and currant nose. Deep dark purple. Soft even presentation middle of oak and touch of blackberry chalk chocolate coffee. Very complex beautiful 20 year old wine. 9.5/10. (902 views)
Tasted by tjross on 1/1/2017 & rated 89 points: Another gift lost to the back of the cellar for too long. Expected it to be past drinkable, but was pleasantly surprised to find it still standing. Mostly oak on the nose. No tannins or finish at this point, but mildly interesting fruit flavors in mouth. Wish I had tried it in its prime. (2396 views)
Tasted by SanderB on 5/23/2015 & rated 94 points: Deep, rich color. Swirl coats the glass, producing thick legs. Blueberry, black liquerice and some must on the nose. Thick mouthfeel with lush berries, which evolved into honeysuckle and mandarin marmalade. Long finish with sugared cranberry in the aftermath. Worth the wait. (2570 views)
Tasted by uvmd on 5/23/2015 & rated 93 points: Awesome. Slightly musty, cavernous, black licorice, blueberry opening nose. Honeysuckle later, followed by the marmalade jammy jam. Full, yet silken mouthfeel. Yet later, I'm wading thru a lush cranberry bog. Incredible sour patch kids lead into rock candy flashback about 3 hours after opening, culminating in cotton candy. Strawberry syrup comes oozing out in the aftermath of the fruit bomb.

Definitely not past its prime. (2686 views)
Tasted by Marc.F on 8/12/2013 & rated 92 points: - Violet color and aromas of violet, blackberry and black currant. It's balanced and has flavours of blackberry and black currant with a light/medium body. Smooth texture with a medium finish - This drank very well. With aromas of black fruit and similiar fruit upon tasting. The wine had little tannins remaining and probably slightly past its peak. It was very smooth and went very quickly. (4555 views)
Tasted by Marc.F on 8/4/2013 & rated 93 points: I have been drinking these for the past few years and think they are at or slightly past their peak. Very light tannins bordering on being too thin but drank very easy. Very nice soft fruits with a great nose. (3520 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 11/26/2011 & rated 92 points: Cellartracker Over the Hill and In the Woods Party (Judith's House): Very dark red/purple. Great nose, floral, cassis, mulberry, earth, violets. Nice velvety mouthfeel, good concentration, elegant, cassis, earth, round integrated tannins, mineral. long finish. This was from a magnum and was wonderful. My WOTN and group WOTN. 92+pts. (5275 views)
Tasted by kenh on 10/1/2011 & rated 87 points: My palate was off tonight. Though the wine smelled lovely it was sour and bitter to my taste. I revisited after champagne and a wonderful escargot with wild mushrooms. With my palate thus recalibrated the wine was good. Black cherry, chocolate and tea, but tannic.

I'll drink my last bottle of this soon, as I don't think the fruit will outlive the tannin. (3579 views)
Tasted by ravbik on 8/27/2010 & rated 92 points: Outstanding cherries strawberries rich velvety better after three hours (4167 views)
Tasted by Bmack21 on 3/21/2010 & rated 90 points: Drank very well, had a lot to give with a lot of fruit. (3182 views)
Tasted by L_McNichol on 6/3/2009 & rated 89 points: Only 2 left of the 1/2 dozen bottles I bought in 2004. It remains complex with dark berries up front and a smooth, lingering finish. The color is now almost dark purple and the aroma is earthy. A truly enjoyable blend of cab, merlot, & cab franc. (3474 views)
Tasted by swittersMN on 3/15/2009 & rated 90 points: A nice bottle of wine. Lingering tannins are very smooth. Wine has maintained complexity, but was very subtle. Got a lot more out of it after we finished the steak. Delicious fresh black rasperies, milk chocolate, and clove. I think I will drink my last one soon, with a little cheese or by itself. (3097 views)
Tasted by sakemakibug on 2/8/2009 & rated 90 points: really nice baby Bordeaux type blend sophisticated nose and palate. (3023 views)
Tasted by cabjunkie on 1/26/2009 & rated 87 points: Nice cherry on the nose, otherwise muted fruit. Peppery mid-palate, creamy texture. Tired. A really nice blend, if bit on the hedonistic side. Completely shut down in less than an hour in the bowl, turning raisin. Drink now. Passed prime. (3174 views)
Tasted by L_McNichol on 7/26/2008 & rated 90 points: This wine does not disappoint. A wonderful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot & Cab Franc that provides a wine of full flavor and a smooth finish. (3104 views)
Tasted by dwbumsted on 3/6/2008 & rated 90 points: Great wine with New York Strip. Fruit is a little muted but tannins are smooth. (3311 views)
Tasted by Mallards on 9/16/2007 & rated 91 points: Bright brilliant fruits, tannins still present and a great drinking experience. We drank this next to a 1996 Trilogy, and this was the clear winner. Can't see it lasting much longer though, so drink now! (3502 views)
Tasted by LiveGood on 3/4/2007: fantastic - drank with Hodapps and Myers (3656 views)
Tasted by hifiwine on 3/14/2006 & rated 90 points: the 02' is so much better (4302 views)
Tasted by 97mjr on 3/26/2005 & rated 88 points: [Gentile's, Steak au Poivre] Cab Frnc dominants the aromas with green pepper as well as liocrice and blackberry. On the palate, again peppers, blueberry, licorice, blackberry, minimal tannins. Not worth the price. (4403 views)
Tasted by strulock on 10/28/2004 & rated 88 points: Cotes du Coeur Cabernet Tasting (Peters Gallery, Dallas, TX): Cab blend. Herbal, currant, anise, blackberry, tar. Quick finish, rich color, light nose, medium body. (5971 views)
Tasted by bradnkel on 8/7/2004: Drank at Rose & Steve's lake house with Rose, Steve, Terri, and Brian. This followed on two bottles of 1994 Kalen Pinot Noir, so it was a decided change. Very smooth with lots of black fruit and chocolate. A favorite, as always. (4518 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 5/16/2003 & rated 93 points: WS: Great roasted oak, cassis, some blkberry; big mth and t’s;***A little subtle, good all around from start to finish. (1053 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/22/2003 & rated 89 points: Quick Day Trip to Napa (Napa Valley CA): Tasting at winery. Aromas of black plum, dark coffee and some black currant. Same good fruit flavors, but fairly advanced for such a young wine. Somewhat short. Drink young. (1683 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
