Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.5 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 153 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Mark van Delft on 2/25/2024 & rated 91 points: Lush Priorat: bramble, blackberry, plum, soft vanilla, earthy note, medium to full body, long powerful finish. Wining with Bas & Derk (453 views)
Tasted by Putnam Weekley on 7/30/2023 & rated 92 points: Very fresh tasting. Plump. Bright and active sweet fruit. Bursting. Substantial, with slate and embroidered fruit tannin. I didn't drink enough to erase the confectionary effect of the transition from 2004 Torre Muga, but let me not hold it against this. (994 views)
Tasted by MRichman on 7/29/2023: Yum! So good. Bright, full purple fruit, violets. Very ripe, and approaching too big, but has good dark tobacco and mushroom notes to keep it all in order. Good floral lift and bright finish. Fully mature, possible downhill in the not too distant future, but drinking great now. Excellent. (745 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 10/3/2022 & rated 92 points: Big, rich, and modern styled with its sweet-ish black fruit and big spicebox, but easily refined and nearly elegant at the same time. Powerful from start-to-finish with a long, persistent ending. Still wonderfully bright. (2309 views)
Tasted by Coachron13 on 8/31/2022 & rated 90 points: Seems to have lost a little at this stage of its life. Other younger vintages we’ve drank have had more zip. Still fine, but a little low key. (1561 views)
Tasted by Doc90 on 6/18/2022 & rated 93 points: Nose of cherries, applewood chips, and dark chocolate. The length on this is ridiculous. Rich cherry ice cream with very subtle chocolate and smoked wood chips. Quite tannic, more so than I expected for a Clos Mogador. Drink or hold. (1674 views)
Tasted by Jack on 12/14/2021 & rated 95 points: In the zone. Beautiful. (1939 views)
Tasted by michaelgor on 10/3/2021 & rated 94 points: decanted one hour. reidel syrah glass, dark plum purple fading to clear at the meniscus, powerful nose: tobacco, road tar, dried prunes, stewed plums, some espresso, dark stone fruit on the palate a long finish with hint of menthol, but, alas, turns a bit watery at the end.
the alcohol was not overly powerful in this btl as described by other tasters (2257 views)
Tasted by tzelmer on 8/14/2020 & rated 90 points: Still deep dark color. No discernible bricking or rim variation. Smells of very ripe plum, dried tobacco leaf, and a slight floral character. Full body, flavors of ripe plum, ripe cherry, tobacco, and leathery component. The tannin and acid are big but in balance. The alcohol is massive and undoes this wine a bit. Very ripe, almost pruny fruit lingers in the aftertaste. (2905 views)
Tasted by Winiac on 11/2/2019 & rated 94 points: Full bodied with a solid back bone. Full of red cherries and white flowers. Spicy with good tannin and acid structure. Long length and yummy finish. (3245 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 10/14/2019: Quick decant

Very good (3141 views)
Tasted by PacoHigon on 4/27/2019: Casi 15 años ya y sigue pletórico. Importante decantar ya que tiene mucho poso. Elegante, atractivo y bien perfilado en nariz. Con excelente presencia en boca, tanino muy fino, estructura media y gran longitud. (3264 views)
Tasted by jjhsom on 1/25/2019 & rated 93 points: No decanting required. Nice fruit. Lots of sediment (3148 views)
(2738 views)
Tasted by danibus on 10/1/2018 & rated 92 points: Still going strong. Ripe but structured. Rocks and deep dark berries. (2120 views)
Tasted by Happybob on 9/24/2018 & rated 94 points: Awesome wine, drinking very well now. Opened fairly quickly and had great fruit, structure, tannins, nose, finish. (2106 views)
Tasted by jsebiri on 9/7/2018: Lots of sediment, good wine, nice red color, a little underwhelming, med. fruit . (1875 views)
Tasted by Mark van Delft on 8/25/2018 & rated 93 points: Powerful Priorat, dark cherries, full body, cherries, note of caramel, espresso, vanilla, herbs, dark chocolate, long finish. Drink now up to 5 years (1844 views)
Tasted by madia on 8/22/2018 & rated 94 points: Superb. Complex nose of red fruits, tobaco, earth... Full bodied, good acidity' perfect balance. Intense but elegant (1676 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 5/12/2018 & rated 92 points: Regular dinner group (By PvD @ Fitzgerald): Red berries, oak and firm acidity. Good complexity. (1947 views)
Tasted by Philippe_C on 2/18/2018 & rated 96 points: Wow wow nose of black cherries and red cherries, BBQ sauce, leather, gamey, very animal, tertiary nose... Super delicious, totally integrated tannin, ripe red cherries, BBQ meat, lenght of 20 sec! (2696 views)
Tasted by VlgJeff on 12/25/2017 & rated 93 points: Slo-oxed for 30 minutes, but definitely will benefit from a 30 to 60 minute decant -- for aeration & (a fair amount of) sediment -- as the wine needs time to settle and come together. Nice aromas of dark red fruits and earth. These followed on the palate (reminding us of a Bordeaux blend), along with a touch of cedar and a hint of floral. Nicely balancing acidity, mostly integrated tannins, and a fairly long finish rounded out this medium plus bodied wine. L favored it more than J (who favored the companion wine... 2004 Clos Erasmus)! This wine should continue to mellow and integrate over the next several years. (2180 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 12/17/2017 & rated 93 points: From a magnum. I really enjoyed this. It was much bigger, bolder, darker colored than I was expecting from a Grenache based wine. Nice medium-long finish. It threw off a lot of sediment. (2199 views)
Tasted by Philippe_C on 12/3/2017 & rated 96 points: Huge nose of bacon, leather, cèpes de Bordeaux, roasted meat... Loads of ripe cherries with refreshing acidity, totally integrated tannins, good lenght of 30 sec, great mogador at maturity!! (2600 views)
Tasted by grossie on 9/9/2017 flawed bottle: corked (2728 views)

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
