| Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 32 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 4/8/2022: Rich and powerful yet still linear, magnificent actually. Stiff and tartic (780 views) | | Tasted by moods on 3/21/2021 & rated 90 points: Drank over 3 days and was admittedly at its best on day 3. Maybe suggests decanting would be worth the effort? Smoky buttered toast. Nutty, marzipan, and yes...a stony minerality. Full on ripe and somewhat candied citrus fruit peel. Lip smacking acidity, with a generous dose of creamy vanilla oak. Needs food, and would suggest having it as a lunchtime tipple than an evening dinner one. (912 views) | | Tasted by bacchus of knockholt on 1/22/2020 & rated 91 points: Pale lemon, nose of struck match, lemon and clove. The palate has lovely citrus fruit with a little bit of ripe green apple, clove, a bit of oak spice and burnt toast but not excessive. Really wonderful. (1245 views) | | Tasted by OregonLoafer on 4/9/2019: This tastes surprisingly young. It's light in color and extremely vibrant. In fact, this did better on day 2. It had a youthful streak of acidity that jumped out almost too much on day 1, but was nicely integrated - but still very much present - on day 2.
A very good wine that still has upside potential but is also drinking well now, particularly with a bit of a decant. Good QPR (1226 views) | | Tasted by Sonoffalstaff on 4/10/2018 & rated 91 points: Really good QPR. Lighter colour than many west coast chardonnays of this type. Nose is crisp without being astringent. Attack is a good balance of acid and citrus fruits but with a lovely lick of vanilla to keep the the package together. Long finish. (1699 views) | | Tasted by Rezy13 on 2/25/2017: Another great performance by this white Burg from OR. (2112 views) | | Tasted by bin905 on 2/3/2017 & rated 90 points: Crisp, citrus, wet slate and a bit of sea salt. (1779 views) | | Tasted by goodvitis.com on 11/25/2016 & rated 91 points: Nose: prestine. Bit of ML and pal evidence. Limestone and saline. Not much fruit. Palate: medium bodied, nice acidity and just a bit of tartness. Smooth and semi-lush mouthfeel. Big Meyer lemon, vanilla custard. White pepper and a lot of Starfruit and Granny Smith apple. Overall a brilliant effort and value. (2291 views) | | Tasted by bin905 on 10/31/2016 & rated 90 points: Spice and fresh wood scent. Crisp, clean and refreshing combination of citrus and tonic flavor. (1843 views) | | Tasted by bacchus of knockholt on 4/24/2016 & rated 91 points: I absolutely love this wine. Tasted it at a West Coast American wine tasting and this was the standout wine out of the reds and whites. Gentle oak, lemon and mineral aromas. The palate has great fruit, a long mineral thread that runs through the long finish. (1970 views) | | Tasted by Rezy13 on 2/10/2016: Very similar to previous note, well measured oak, loads of lemon, very crisp and pure, distinct mineral on the finish; delicious; this would cost $70+ from Burgundy. (1534 views) | | Tasted by bin905 on 1/11/2016 & rated 91 points: Serious, low in oak with plenty of interesting - citrus, apple, melon and mineral - flavors. (1483 views) | | Tasted by Lavan79 on 1/10/2016 & rated 90 points: on the nose white aromas, melon, apricot, citrus, mineral & oak palate of green apple, grapefruit, vanilla medium body, medium fruit, medium acidity, long finish well structured, good balance of fruit acid & oak well made old vs new style chardonnay (1369 views) | | Tasted by sj38 on 1/1/2016 & rated 90 points: Pale straw colour. Subtle oak on the nose but overall this is a wine whose nose is modest and not very striking. On the palate the wine begins to show its class, young though it is. Pit, green apple, saline and chalky with great acidity and a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste. Burgundian in style, reminds me of some good Chablis, perhaps Vaudesir. Needs another year or so but shows great promise. Very glad I tried it (1400 views) | | Tasted by Rezy13 on 12/8/2015: Tasted blind; light yellow; nose and palate show lots of lemon, no oak really standing out, great focus and restraint; confident this was Burgundy but could not place it; very good, great QPR. (946 views) | | Tasted by olalar on 10/10/2015 & rated 89 points: Smooth and round but lacks some juice. Refined oak is well integrated. Good balance and medium long after taste. (1015 views) | | Tasted by Man in Black on 9/17/2015: Expressive nose with aromas of hazelnut, vanilla, cedar, lemon peel and hints of green apple. Medium+ body and very concentrated, however the alcohol is slightly unbalanced and the wine lacks some freshness. (1048 views) | | Tasted by Lilja on 9/13/2015: Oregon keep impressing me with both their Pinot wines as well as their Chardonnays. Stony, smoky minerality together with lots of green apples, citrus fruit and a well-balanced buttery note. Really crisp acidity and good intensity on the palate with a long and dry chalky finish. (1247 views) | | Tasted by Skiperwaif on 8/9/2015 & rated 96 points: Phenomenal, rich Chardonnay with bright, clean, citrus tones. Green apple and melon with just a hint of oak. Not your typical buttery, oaky Chardonnay- would definitely buy again. (1115 views) | | Tasted by dpolivy on 5/24/2015 & rated 90 points: A Day in the Willamette Valley (Willamette Valley, OR): Green apple, pear, citrus, and a touch of honey. Starts rich, but it's cut with a nice backbone of minerals and tart lemon. Crisp, with great acidity. (1570 views) | | Tasted by Biggsy on 12/17/2014 & rated 91 points: Lovely lees-ey aromas. A little biscuity note in there too. Lovely delicate restrained style, the fruit is tropical edged with a lovely banana note and a little toastyness appears on the finish. Great poise and acidity, really good. (964 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. Willamette Valley Vintage Reviews
Willamette Valley Willamette Valley Wineries Association | Willamette Valley AVA Wikipedia article
#2012 vintage: "Broadly speaking, the Willamette Valley's 2012 pinots are fleshy and fruit-dominated, with round tannins and forward personalities. The fruit tends to the darker side of the pinot spectrum--think cherry and blackberry rather than strawberry and raspberry, much less cranberry and redcurrant--and this gives the wines massive crowd appeal. The best wines also have the depth to age, so don't be fooled by their accessible nature in the early going." - Josh Raynolds
#2013 vintage: "The key to a successful foray into the ‘13s is first to understand that in most instances the wines lean to the red fruit side of Pinot Noir; they tend to be tangy and tightly wound but often lack concentration. While some wines may put on weight and gain sweetness with bottle age, that’s a gamble I’ll personally leave to others. The 2013s also tend to lack the tannic structure for more than mid-term aging although they will likely endure on their acidity, which I suspect will usually outlast the fruit in this vintage" - Josh Raynolds
#2014 vintage: "The 2014 vintage in Oregon may be remembered as the vintage of a lifetime [for growers] . . . these wines as they will be similar to the 2009 vintage . . . lovely, ripe, rich, deeply concentrated and aromatic" - winebusiness.com "The conditions made it relatively easy to make good wines, with no worries about achieving ripeness, and the lack of frost risk allowed us to keep grapes on the vine as long as we wished." - Casey McClellan |
