| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.1 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 15 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by redz on 11/19/2022 & rated 92 points: A little pruny on the nose initially, which blew off reveal a solid full-bodied Rutherford cab. Drink up. (618 views) | | Tasted by PIntag on 4/3/2021 & rated 93 points: Last of 6 bottles from recent auction. This bottle drank well - all 6 bottles were in great shape. Probably a little past prime drinking window but super enjoyable in a classic Cabernet kind of way, as this was more on the elegant side rather than the power and depth side. A super classy Cabernet. (1015 views) | | Tasted by PIntag on 7/4/2020 & rated 94 points: 5th of a 6-bottle lot purchased at a recent auction. This bottle showed the best of the 5 bottles so far. Delivered an excellent Napa Cabernet experience, perfectly mature in a slightly more restrained style than usual. Went extremely well with grilled New York strips and the usual BBQ trimmings. (1005 views) | | Tasted by PIntag on 6/27/2020 & rated 93 points: This bottle showed younger and deeper than the previous bottle, which had faded in comparison. Rich with almost a liqueur note going on here. Two more bottles from the auction lot - it will be interesting to see how those show... (1008 views) | | Tasted by PIntag on 5/4/2020 & rated 93 points: Another bottle that showed well. On the elegant side of Napa Cabernet, with nice detail but not powerful at this stage, at least. (1045 views) | | Tasted by PIntag on 12/26/2019 & rated 93 points: Another very good bottle of this. Perhaps a little more tannin than the last bottle. Noticed a bit more oak as well, showing some cocoa notes, which could use a little more time to integrate. Noticed a touch more alcohol as well. Otherwise, very good restrained-style Napa Cabernet that I appreciate more than the overblown, "impressive" style of Napa Cab. Plenty rich and ripe for my tastes. (577 views) | | Tasted by PIntag on 11/19/2019 & rated 94 points: 14.8% abv. Recent auction purchase. Lovely ripe cabernet aromatics. On the palate, rich and ripe but not to the level of having liqueur characteristics. Silky mouthfeel with good focus and good acidity. Dense and concentrated, but does not hang with the most powerful Napa cabernets (a good thing in my book). Did not get any overt oak, so it must be fully integrated at this point. Not the most complex, and a touch of heat, but I'm extremely happy to have picked 6 of these up at auction for the paltry sum of $19/bottle (including BP!). Can't believe that nobody was bidding against me on this lot, as newer vintages of this go for $160/btl! (391 views) | | Tasted by rpontual on 12/23/2018 & rated 90 points: Dark red color with slight sign of aging. Dark plum on the nose. Ready to drink. Drink now or hold. (1220 views) | | Tasted by F1NUT on 4/5/2018 & rated 92 points: Enjoyed from a magnum. Nice dark red body with a lighter coloured rim looking clear and inviting. Lovely nose of blackcurrant and dark plums. There is the faintest amount of tea leaf and tobacco, but this largely blows off soon.
A medium-full bodied wine to drink, this is a beautiful wine in lovely harmony and balance. Quite fruity the oak is in the background in support but what impressed me more is the acidity giving a great length as it dissipates. Bottles may show more aged characters but the magnum was definitely in fine fruity form. (508 views) | | Tasted by CJM on 11/4/2016 & rated 89 points: clear deep garnet with slight rim browning chocolate, cassis , baked blackberry pie low acids, medium to low tannins . bramble, white pepper . medium balanced finish (927 views) | | Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 11/20/2010 & rated 90 points: SF Vintners Market: 164 Wines Tasted (Fort Mason, San Francisco, California): Very dark red violet color; cassis, currant, cedar nose; tasty, poised, cassis, cedar palate, needs 3-plus years; medium-plus finish 90+ pts. | Martin Estate Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Rutherford Rutherford,
