| Community Tasting Notes (average 94.2 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 6 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by glou.sf on 3/16/2024 & rated 94 points: A bit muted on the nose, but with air some dark fruit, brine, cherries, and a bit of leather emerged. Nice acidity on the palate and generally much more open with dark fruit, olives, bacon and classic Cote-Rotie flavors. Nice finish. This is really promising, but needs more time. It actually has quite a bit of power must most of it is hidden away and only emerged slowly with air. I'd let this rest another 10 years or so. 94++ (401 views) | | Tasted by pclin on 7/23/2023 & rated 94 points: PnP. ABV 13%. After the knee bending ‘04 vintage recently, I am really curious about other vintages of Cote Brune. The first sniff is so floral, one can easily mistaken this for Burgundy. As it sits in the glass after aggressive swirling, more Syrah related notes emerge, some greenness appears too. On the first sip, comparatively more lean and less silky vs ‘04. Fine grained tannins with firm mid-palate, still too young but approachable. Good wine but not really showing the pedigree of this plot, maybe just too young. Nowhere nears the brilliant ‘04 vintage. (924 views) | | Tasted by hajoha on 4/19/2022: Domaine Jamet Cote-Rotie Cote-Brune 2014. Denne var helt hinsides grønn, og ble heller ikke noe bedre utover kvelden. Klarte ikke fullføre glasset. (1200 views) | | Tasted by acyso on 4/13/2021 & rated 98 points: An absolutely phenomenal bottle of syrah, from a weak vintage no less. The nose is all classic syrah, with pronounced black peppercorn, olive brine and smoke, but also sweet black fruit and a little meatiness. Not high-toned, but the aromatic intensity here is just off the charts. The palate is pure silk. It is svelte and shapely, but is also impactful and potent. Most importantly, the palate delivers on every single promise that the nose makes. This may well be the best Côte-Rôtie these days. (2415 views) | | Tasted by Burgnick on 5/8/2019 & rated 90 points: Decanted for 3 hours before drinking. Peppercorn, purple flowers, and citrus fruit on the nose. At this stage, it did not display extra weight or complexity compared to the regular 14 Jamet. (1613 views) | | Tasted by pren on 11/30/2018 & rated 95 points: 喔,闻起来Syrah的特色明显,又有一股幽香。95分。口中有层次,又有一点色度。非常open。 (1434 views) |

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent. The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)
Regional History: Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

• The Appellation cover three communes - Saint-Cyr-sur-Rhône, Ampuis and Tupin-Semons - on the right Rhône river bank, within the Rhône "département".
• Soils : In the northern part of the vineyard, the Côte Brune, consists of extremely steep, terraced slopes of ferruginous mica schists which are covered with schist sand (arzel). The Côte Blonde has a varied geology with gneiss and granite predominating at the most southern side of the appellation.
• Climate : tempered continental. Dry, hot summers and frequent rainfalls during the other seasons. History : one of the oldest vineyards in France, first developed by the Romans. It is said that during the Middle Ages, "The Seigneur de Maugiron" bequeathed a hillside to each of his daughters, one was brunette and the other fair. Thus, were born the names of "Côte Brune" and "Côte Blonde".
• Area planted : 230 hectares (568 acres), for an annual production of 8,400 hectoliters (93,333 cases). Authorized maximum yield is 40 hectoliters/hectare (2,3 US tons/acre).
• Grape Varieties : Syrah (80% minimum). An addition of up to 20% of Viognier grapes in the crop is allowed.
