Community Tasting Notes (average 89.4 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Winiac on 12/16/2023 & rated 88 points: Extracted but not much of flavor: black tea, tobacco and olive. Acid minus and dry. Fine tannins. lacks the delicious factor. If I wanted to score the structure nd built of the wine, could get a 93 easily, but the experience and joy of the bottle was not more than 88 really. (141 views)
Tasted by Winiac on 9/27/2023 & rated 87 points: A bit disappointing for a riserva! Some cooked berry flavors with lack of focus of flavors. (144 views)
Tasted by skurtz on 9/16/2022 & rated 92 points: Opened to breathe for 2-3h. Lots of oak and tobacco on the nose and palate, well done, with ample black fruit, blackberries mostly, on the palate balanced with acidity in the finish. Aromatic, utterly smooth, and great with dinner tonight. Enjoyed with a vegetable stir fry in French cream sauce over rice dish. 91/92 (510 views)
Tasted by oldwines on 8/14/2022 & rated 91 points: Double decanted and taken to a friend’s house to have with Elk medallions. This seems more of a modern International style of wine than I expected. It was quite oak driven on the nose and palate but it did had nice depth of flavor, a good bit of richness and a fairly long finish. Soft and pliant with dark red and black fruit flavors under the spicy oak driven elements. (612 views)
Tasted by mwneil on 10/1/2021 & rated 92 points: Dark color, slight bouquet, wine has lots going for it, good fruit, balance, smooth tannins, drank easily, drank with my pizza with nj sausage and NJ mozzarella, no more left, for a 2010 wine it tasted fresh. (631 views)
Tasted by weinmatt on 3/25/2021 & rated 92 points: I definitely rate this higher than most here. It’s got good balance, the fruit remains dominant, and nice feel. (681 views)
Tasted by jh773 on 1/30/2020 & rated 87 points: Game and balsamic leads the nose with myrtle, cedar, bay? Lots of woody and herbal notes in this one, the fruit is almost completely gone. Opens up into licorice and molasses, fruitcake, stewed candied dark fruit. Medium-plus body with thick tannins. Quite warm, probably better a few years ago. (946 views)
Tasted by FLXHoneymoon on 10/6/2019: A little funky, but in a nice way. Good balance, nice fruit, some complexity. I like it. (850 views)
Tasted by Klugi Wine on 12/15/2018 & rated 93 points: Quite closed in the beginning, it shows notes of violets and tobacco. With time it really opens up and shows nice maraschino cherry notes. Quite a fullbodied wine but not rustic but refined.
Definitely worth some further aging, excellent wine. (1251 views)
Tasted by weinmatt on 12/1/2018 & rated 92 points: A few months seems to have done a lot, otherwise some significant bottle variation. This is that rustic Tuscan stuff you come to expect from this varietal. Fig and blackberry, leather, and all that other goodness with thick mouth smacking pasty tannins. Thumbs up! (995 views)
Tasted by Tetherton on 4/6/2018 & rated 91 points: My wife and I enjoyed this wine very much. On the open, it was a bit closed. The nose was a bit of wood and funk...sorta typical of old world wines. When it opened, it was glorious! It paired fabulously with lamb root vegetable ragu (sans the tomato sauce). Enjoy! (1428 views)
Tasted by weinmatt on 2/15/2018 & rated 89 points: Muted/a little flabby, but a very pleasant nose; black cherry, licorice, herby, pencil lead, smoky tannins; needed time; after 3 hours a much better wine. A lot of high scores for this one, so maybe I'm missing something. Tre bicchieri, Vini i Buoni Corona, 94 VN, 90 WS... it's good but not blowing me away (that being said it was $22, so...) (1146 views)
Tasted by mwneil on 11/24/2017 & rated 86 points: Not sure how to rate this, Tough night, glasses smelled, not much going on, short finish, big disappointment, will try again tomorrow, drink with turkey, have 1 more bottle. (1200 views)
Tasted by J B McDonald on 8/28/2016 & rated 80 points: Nice dark burgundy color. Good vegetable and mineral bouquet. But taste is mediocre, cardboard dry, and tangy. (1968 views)
Tasted by nectar14 on 4/30/2016: Dark, dark ruby purple. Nose of crushed rocks, licorice, black cherry, and dark green herbs. Fleshy and rich, also very smooth in texture on the palate. It would benefit from more acidity to carry all that substance, but overall this is a very enjoyable wine, and matches well with red meat or red sauces. (2372 views)
