Tasted by Yagil on 7/18/2011 & rated 89 points: dark red-black
secondary aromas with nice amount of fruits
med balance, fruits flavors with spices. long after taste. (3522 views)
Tasted by raccah on 4/24/2011 & rated 91 points: As one peers into the inky black colored depths of this wine with purple halos you are immediately met with waves of tobacco, tar, licorice, black pepper, oak, espresso coffee, roasted meat, blackberry, cassis, plum, and herb. The mouth on this full bodied wine is rich, lovely, and concentrated with blackberry, cassis, roasted meat, plum, lovely integrated tannin, and herb. The mid palate flows off the mouth with balanced acid, oak, lovely tannin, tobacco, and tar. The finish is super long with nice tannin, oak, black fruit, black pepper, dirt, herb, and licorice. (4109 views)
Tasted by Yossie's Corkboard on 12/1/2010: Delicious. Rich and complex, lasted for a few hours but started to fade after 5 hours or so. (4616 views)
Tasted by mschechter on 10/19/2010 & rated 92 points: Fully mature, full bodied, fruit forward, deep, dark fruits (4233 views)
Tasted by Yagil on 8/26/2010 & rated 90 points: wonderful aroma, mature wine, pleasant in taste, good value for money (4350 views)
Tasted by mschechter on 1/22/2010 & rated 92 points: Excellent, fruit forward shiraz (2107 views)
Tasted by mschechter on 7/10/2009 & rated 91 points: Excellent, fruit forward shiraz. Big nose and flavor, from start to finish. Seems to be at it's peak, but looks like it could stay here for a while. (2115 views)
Tasted by mschechter on 2/21/2009 & rated 92 points: Great big bottle of shiraz. Big bouqet, not overly alchoholic, but still with great fullness. Not sure about "peak", as this was my first taste, but certainly drinking VERY well. (2206 views)
Tasted by Jan Schultink on 10/21/2006 & rated 90 points: Very dark purple. Forrest fruit. Roasted oak. Espresso lingering on. A lot more characther than other Carmel premium wines, which have a nice subtle vanilla/oak overlay but lack some spine. (2690 views)
Tasted by Rani on 4/10/2006 & rated 87 points: Dark ruby-purple, nose of crushed berries, white flowers and vanilla. On the palate it is a little flabby, with that sur-ripeness so typical of Galilee wines, though not overly sweet. Slightly bitter finish with medium tannins. Not a bad effort but this wine could have benefited from less oak. (3154 views)

Shiraz

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | Varietal character (Appellation America)

Single Vineyard

The wine takes its name from a single vineyard owned by the Scholz family, in the northern area of the Barossa Valley. This single vineyard Shiraz is a great example of vibrant Barossa fruit. Dense dark fruits and a hint of chocolate. An exercise in opulence.

Elegance and fineness wines, sourced from a single vineyard, planted to develop a specific variety.

The vineyard surrounding the 1905 built Ebenezer church in Barossa's north are defined by a distinct bright red clay soil. The Scholz vineyard has a remarkable lack of variation across this block. This area of the Barossa is renowned for its richly flavoured Shiraz with intense and luscious middle palate flavours. The wine from the Scholz Estate vineyard is an excellent example of this.
