This is now perfectly in the drinking window. 1 hour decant. Slightest amount of bricking. Dense purple in the glass. Enticing aromas of earth, forest floor, garrigue, dark fruits. Beautiful balance, nice acidity, tannins smooth and integrated. Just a beautiful wine. Opened at family dinner and it was loved by all. Consumed quickly…. (1227 views) | | Tasted by MattJ on 3/23/2024 & rated 93 points: At or close to peak. I generally don’t drink Zinfandel as frequently too jammy, overipe syrupy medicinal concoctions. But….Ridge do it better than most. I’ve been drinking their zinfandels for 20+ years. Masterful winemaking and blending. Restrained dark fruits, strawberries, some vanilla balanced by a hint of acidity and pleasant finish. Enjoyable to the last drop with and later without food. If you have these I’d drink in the next 5 years. (1238 views) | | Tasted by Bjweiss on 3/18/2024 & rated 94 points: Hard to find a better wine that Lytton Springs with ten years of bottle age. So wonderfully complex. The tannins are in a great place. The wood is in the background and inviting herbal notes to the wine. Balanced and restrained. Can’t ask for more. Awesome wine. (1778 views) | | Tasted by OGFresno on 1/13/2024 & rated 92 points: Delightful, youthful, delicious. (1962 views) | | Tasted by Spsmatthews on 12/1/2023 & rated 91 points: Drinking great right now (2181 views) | | Tasted by Bob23 on 11/13/2023 & rated 93 points: Age has brought balance and savory tones, but the acidity remains vibrant. I wish I had another couple of bottles to try over the next decade. It's got at least 5-6 more good years, and maybe more. (2372 views) | | Tasted by ogres3 on 9/18/2023 & rated 91 points: Drinking really well. Worth holding on to for years... (2647 views) | | Tasted by gharter on 9/5/2023 & rated 90 points: Aromas of plums, ,blackberry, toast. spice and licorice. Plum, blackberry and spice dominate the flavors with anise, cedar. Well balanced with a smooth finish. Has a long life ahead of it. Comes across much drier than the Geyserville. Definitely a food wine. (2561 views) | | Tasted by ogres3 on 7/30/2023 & rated 91 points: Not necessarily a hugely pedigreed wine, but in a good drinking window and hard to beat as a second bottle of the night wine. (2693 views) | | Tasted by SuperSomm on 3/17/2023: Deep ruby colour. Medium (+) and developing nose with flint, forest floor, leather, smoke and blueberry. Medium (+) taste of forest floor, leather, smoke, flint, wet leaves, tobacco, blueberry and blackberry. Long and dry finish. High acidity. High tannins. Full body. A very good Californian Zinfandel with good maturation notes that feels a bit stoney. Drink now or over the next five years. Goes well with beef, duck or pork. (1471 views) | | Tasted by tomlee on 2/21/2023 & rated 92 points: Maroon in color. 14.4% ABV. Savory notes of black fruit, leather and anise on the nose. Medium body with mouth watering acidity. The power and structure here is notable. Blackberry, mulberry, plums and pepper on the palate. Great length on the finish. For those of you that prefer Lytton Springs with some bottle age there is little doubt this will age well. I’ll check in on another bottle in 2-3 years. (3762 views) | | Tasted by LesPaul on 1/21/2023: I think this bottle was properly stored, but surprisingly uninspiring. Gloppy, disjointed, a little heavy. Hard to find the acid to add energy to the heavy fruit. One other bottle in the cellar - fingers crossed for that one. (3129 views) | | Tasted by Brian of Mull on 1/3/2023 & rated 93 points: PnP. Color is deep garnet/purple. On the nose: blackberries, red berries, vanilla, hints of plum and spice. On the palate: black and red berries , some plum in the background and some baking spices. Rich and velvety flavor profile. Soft , silky and sensuous mouthfeel. Nice long finish. I am really liking this. (3193 views) | | Tasted by finewinebuff57 on 12/31/2022 & rated 91 points: 69% Zinfandel, 18% Petite Sirah, 11% Carignane, 2% Mataro. From a half, and in this format beginning to drink well, though as others have observed this will certainly last. Very accomplished. The 30% non Zin provide balance and interest. (2910 views) | | Tasted by jviz on 12/26/2022 & rated 91 points: I think this is my first trip with the 2014 Lytton Springs, but it won’t be my last and holy cow is that American oak sticking out like a sore thumb or what?? Like to the point you wonder about it retaining balance - but all the other parts are there, so hope is not lost
Pouring darkly in the glass, with an inky hue, the nose suggests sage and sweet dark fruit. Hint of rose hips and a bunch of brown sugar. This needs to be held another 5 years in my opinion. (3071 views) | | Tasted by MdeCarabas on 12/2/2022 & rated 92 points: Nose like dusty blackberries Intense boysenberry flavor, tart notes, vanilla/milk chocolate notes absolutely delicious (2621 views) | | Tasted by chrisanderika on 10/23/2022 & rated 92 points: The only flaw is a slightly watery unstructured mouthfeel. (2838 views) | | Tasted by Thomas D on 9/8/2022 & rated 92 points: Med dark ruby colored; nose of boysenberry and licorice; crisp acidity; full bodied; sweet dark berry fruit with pepper flavors and an ok finish. Another very enjoyable Ridge zin that drinks very well 8 years after inception. (3029 views) | | Tasted by ogres3 on 9/6/2022 & rated 91 points: Great zin (blend) if you can hang on to it for 10 years. (3134 views) | | Tasted by edjBoca on 7/24/2022 & rated 91 points: This is drinking ok, all primary fruit. This needs some time like most of the Ridge blends. (3158 views) | | Tasted by squiddo on 7/23/2022: Amazing. (3191 views) | | Tasted by hadukla on 6/22/2022 & rated 95 points: Tasted along with the 2019 with pizza. So very smooth, velvety and delicious. Good finish and balance, these wines are so much better after a few years of aging. (3435 views) | | Tasted by Eatmypixels on 6/10/2022 & rated 94 points: Drinking really well right now. Could hold longer (3095 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

In the heart of Dry Creek Valley, home to 100 year old Zinfandel vines, co-planted (as was the norm) with small amounts of Petite Sirah, Carignane, Grenache and Mourvedre, Lytton Springs is Ridge’s Sonoma HQ. This is ideal Zinfandel country and produces wines that are spectacular both young and with age.Lytton SpringsThe bench and hills separating Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys, just north of Healdsburg, Sonoma County.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyDry Creek Valley Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley | Dry Creek Valley Association | Appellation America | San Francisco Chronicle Article |
