| Community Tasting Notes (average 87.6 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 15 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Docsharpe on 9/2/2016 & rated 85 points: Red fruit with a medicinal, ashy aroma. Medium intensity nose. on the palate there is Med + acidity, medium + tannins, and more tart red fruit- cranberries and rhubarb. Not a very well-balanced wine with the tannins and high alcohol exaggerated by the tart fruit flavors. (1567 views) | | Tasted by socidelvino on 8/10/2016 & rated 90 points: Eye: clear garnet color. Nose: herbal with dark fruit notes and some vanilla and spice. Palate: pleasant mouth feel, balanced, good fruit, cherries, plums, nutmeg, good tannins, well rounded and medium to long finish. (1110 views) | | Tasted by dsamuel on 7/28/2016 & rated 91 points: Medium garnet with minimal clearing at rim. Medium(+) aromas of red fruit with barnyard and varnish, that unmistakable Pinotage aroma, in this case quite pleasant. Sweetish ripe red fruit on the palate, but wonderfully balanced with medium(+) acidity. Label says 13.5% but tastes higher in ETOH to me. Medium(+) fine tannins, well integrated. Drinking well now, but 1-3 yrs definitely wouldn't hurt. Great example of what Pinotage is capable of, not the powerhouse of the Kanonkop which was tasted alongside, but with much finesse and well made. From the producers of Hamilton-Russell. Nose of red fruit and mineralic. Acidity dominates over tannins. Lasts long in palate. Conclusion: a pinot like pinotage, so lighter than a typical pinotage. Slight acid overhang but good overall. (1520 views) | | Tasted by FLXHoneymoon on 3/12/2016: Clear purple appearance with medium- intensity. Nose is clean with medium+ intensity and notes of black fruit, bacon and sweet spice. Palate is dry with medium+ acidity, low tannins, and medium body. Palate matches nose. Medium finish.
Good wine. Didn't know what to expect since this was our first Pinotage and we had heard such varying reports. Different but pretty good. (1001 views) | | Tasted by Zorg on 11/28/2015 & rated 84 points: Drank a small glass at a wine fair from a newly opened bottle. (597 views) | | Tasted by arvidpalmqvist on 10/16/2015: Fruit-forward ample wine but for me the overly dominant oak flavour borderline buttery popcorn lowers the rating. (572 views) |
