Tasted by EyeDoc on 2/17/2024 & rated 92 points: A hint of sherry suggesting a bit of oxidation. Not off putting but certainly suggesting this is ready to drink. (110 views)
Tasted by EyeDoc on 11/18/2023 & rated 94 points: This is really good - quite rose like for a "blanc" de noirs. Definitely some body to this sparkler. A little baked bread - brisk acidity and some nice red fruits - cherry and strawberries. Lingers. Drink now. (114 views)
Tasted by Blackwa on 3/26/2023 & rated 94 points: Color has turned from blush to more of an orange salmon like. Delicious cherry, ginger and brioche flavors. (217 views)
Tasted by wconnolly on 10/12/2020 & rated 90 points: Last time I drank this I called the color "blush". This has now developed a rosier hue. Still very tiny, tight bubbles, although not as intensely effervescent as before. Lovely notes of brioche, strawberry, a bit of pear and a slightly yeasty finish. Very nice. Drank in celebration of son Matt's and family's pending move to Phoenix. (684 views)
Tasted by Sonoma-W on 6/24/2020 & rated 85 points: Liked it -- but seemed a bit old. (638 views)
Tasted by Blackwa on 5/30/2020 & rated 95 points: Love this stuff. This vintage is much richer than the 2013. (647 views)
Tasted by Blackwa on 7/5/2019 & rated 92 points: Less cherry than I remember from the last time but good acidity and focused orchard fruit dominate along with some yeasty character. Fine bubbles and good acidity this has a nice citrusy yet creamy finish. (1032 views)
Tasted by wconnolly on 4/28/2019 & rated 92 points: Very nice California sparkler. Lovely, blush color in the glass. Crisp, dry and elegant notes of toasted brioche, peach and a hint of yeastiness. Tight, plentiful bubbles. A hint of sweetness on the finish. (982 views)
Tasted by D3S on 4/21/2019 & rated 91 points: Very good sparkling wine with rose color, floral aromas with nice fruit and finish. I opened in a sink because of prior experience and it overflowed significantly again, but very enjoyable wine. Would definitely recommend. (618 views)
Tasted by Sonoma-W on 12/28/2018 & rated 90 points: Quite good! Didn’t spray all over like the 2013s (649 views)
Tasted by hdgraham4 on 3/16/2018 & rated 92 points: So rich, different from any other champagne/sparkling wine I’ve ever tried. Flavors of toasted almond, apricot and pear. (1028 views)
Tasted by Blackwa on 10/9/2017 & rated 92 points: Gingery, toasty, and some cherry and strawberry. Great acidity and a very round medium to full body. Long finish with more delicious biscuit and toast. Very complex and full bodied. (1127 views)
Tasted by hdgraham4 on 9/20/2017 & rated 92 points: This was delicious. Extremely rich and colorful. Unfortunately I feel like a lost a lot of the bubbles when I opened it, but it did allow the flavors to shine through with less carbonation. Can't wait to try the next bottle! (1114 views)
Tasted by wbohonnon on 8/18/2017 & rated 92 points: Dry, layered, and complex. Cannot say enough how much we enjoyed this. Could easily be mistaken for a proper blanc du noir. Look forward to see how my remaining bottles evolve and picking up more (1068 views)
Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 3/10/2017 & rated 93 points: Hey, we got nothing to say but kudos. Read Sea Smoke's description of the winemaking and then buy! "Hand harvested in late August of 2012, the Pinot Noir for this methode champenoise sparkling wine is the result of a careful cluster selection from Sea Smoke’s estate vineyard. The grapes were gently pressed following an evening in our cold room, then transferred to stainless tanks to begin a long, cool fermentation, which was completed in once-used and neutral French oak barrels. Following nine months of sur lie aging in barrel, the wine was bottle aged an additional 24 months en tirage prior to disgorging. The wine was finished with no dosage, to preserve its finesse. The nuanced nose expresses lilies, fresh pastries and green fig. The wine enters the palate with energetic freshness with delightful length." (1610 views)
Tasted by sonodoc on 12/24/2016 & rated 91 points: Not much on the nose, but tasty and not too acidic. (1269 views)
Tasted by Blackwa on 3/5/2016 & rated 92 points: Layers of cherry, ginger, toast, and strawberry. Lovely (1332 views)
Tasted by wconnolly on 12/31/2015 & rated 92 points: Drank this along side last years original 2012 Sea Spray and the difference was a huge surprise. The LD was drier, more polished and complex, building on the fruit and brightness of the original 2012. Definitely my preferred style. (1257 views)

Sea Smoke

Producer website.
At Sea Smoke we believe that the vineyard is the wine. For this reason, we produce Pinot Noir grown exclusively on our estate vineyard in the heart of the Sta. Rita Hills AVA in Santa Barbara County, California. We focus on the meticulous management of each vine to achieve ideal vine balance and very low yields, while incorporating sustainable, environmentally sound farming practices. Each of our ten clones of Pinot Noir is hand harvested, and individual vineyard block/clone combinations are kept in separate lots throughout the winemaking process, enabling us to develop an intimate knowledge of the way Sea Smoke vineyard expresses itself. These individual lots form the basis of a complex flavor palette from which final blending decisions are made. This results in wines of exceptional complexity and grace - each one, we believe, a reflection of the unique terroir of our estate vineyard. We hope you agree, and we welcome your comments.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
