Tasted by dkentaustin on 4/25/2022 & rated 93 points: Bright scarlet color with a light amber edge. Cassis, red raspberry, blueberry, sweet lilies, iron and lead pencil. Still a higher alcohol presence, but the palate is showcasing some dried fruits and age. Very tasty and recommend drinking up in this window.

Tasted by KLDrake on 4/9/2022 & rated 92 points: Good wine not great as I had expected for price. Brought from home cellar to Nevis cooler has been here for 2 years. Decanted 1.5 hours had with steaks with friends. We also had ‘09 Staglin which was much better and 1/3 the value. (1240 views)
Tasted by Red Sox Fan on 2/13/2022 & rated 93 points: Opened a 2012 Staglin and a 2006 Hundred Acres Ark with MK&K. By group consensus, the Staglin was the better wine. M called the Hundred Acres “aggressive.” Definitely bigger and more dense, the secondary flavors were buried beneath all of the big fruit. The Staglin offered more in a smaller package with balance and lively secondary notes. Don’t get me wrong, these are both excellent wines, but the edge goes to Staglin by a point or two. (The Hundred Acres received a 1 hour decant. The Staglin was opened at the same time but not poured. I’ve had several experiences where Staglin Cabernets have turned rough and tannic with too much air.) (1407 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 6/13/2021 & rated 97 points: Decant for thirty minutes. This is fabulous. Deep, layered, racy, very pure, well balanced, everything in place. Blackberry, black currant, tobacco and tea. Long, long finish. If you like this style of wine which is unique even in the pantheon of cult cabs this is in an excellent place. (1904 views)
Tasted by melsdad on 12/18/2019 & rated 90 points: Very disappointing! I think that's the first time I've said that about HA wine. Fruit was austere, tannins more evident and the mouthfeel was thin. (2912 views)
Tasted by Bigtuna on 7/27/2019 & rated 94 points: Good cork, fill. PnP, good on opening, however improved throughout the night. Typical HA fruit - rich, big, silky, tasty. As others have noted, high alcohol is not a factor. Certainly a crowd pleaser. 94 (2110 views)
Tasted by Quiet Lion on 4/3/2019 & rated 98 points: Decanted over cocktails and served with dinner. Absolutely singing. Fresh, focused, intense berries, figs, and plums on the palate seamlessly yielding to a finish of wet leather saturated with plum. What a well-made wine and showing so beautifully. (2571 views)
Tasted by Jimaronson on 10/18/2018 & rated 95 points: Compared to 2006 Kali Morgan. The Ark received higher marks with fruit forward California new style. More balanced than Kali at this time. You could hold this for 15 more years. Very enjoyable and smooth. You would never know the alcohol level is 15+. (2373 views)
Tasted by Jimaronson on 4/5/2018 & rated 98 points: Sweet cherry mixed with black fruit. Full bodied and silky with no hard edges. Slight sense of mushroom, black rasberry, vanilla, and blood orange. Obviously, the wine is smooth yet complex. No need to wait. (2706 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 3/27/2018 & rated 95 points: Beautiful full bodied, red fruit, chocolate, cassis flavors. Silky mid palate held up by decent tannin. This is really easy to drink and doesn’t need a big decant. (1967 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 12/25/2017 & rated 94 points: Utterly seemless, silky and persistent cab with very fine tannin. Ripe sweet red fruit, creme de cassis, minerals, and touch of lead pencil. High alcohol but you don’t sense it. Decanted two hours. Not my favourite style of cab but you have to admire it for its purity. (1855 views)
Tasted by peterk on 12/2/2017 & rated 95 points: As expected... rich, big, extracted yet softened by age. Lovely Cab. No need to wait. (1904 views)
Tasted by DavidDay on 2/28/2017 & rated 98 points: 100%, drinking really well, with time to go (2622 views)
Tasted by patwjr on 3/19/2016 & rated 95 points: Decanted for a few hours. Smooth & delicious. Aged fruit. (2734 views)
Tasted by mfkidd on 2/14/2016 & rated 94 points: Popped, aerated and poured, then consumed over the next 5-6 hours. A lot of complexity to start with, but the finish was slightly more harsh than I expected. (2742 views)
Tasted by jaxpaj on 11/20/2014 & rated 95 points: Not the traditional Hundred acre. This lighter in appearance and taste. Hints of fine cigar gave the wine a very interesting finish. (4262 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 5/24/2014 & rated 97 points: RICH BLACK FRUITS IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR WITH LICORICE AND LEATHER. ELEGANT WINE WITH GREAT COMPLEXITY AND A VERY LONG FINISH. (1783 views)
Tasted by Kemo Sabe on 5/23/2014 & rated 95 points: Needs air. Unfortunately I popped and poured. Was still great but this thing will treat you if you give it some time. Thick and brooding. Its a monster of a wine. Layers and layers of flavor. Chewy. A real treat that was just beginning to open up as we finished it over a 2 hr dinner. (3617 views)
Tasted by ChinonRouge on 2/14/2014 & rated 96 points: Stellar wine. To dissect it wound be a disservice. This is truly a momentous effort in wine making. Every bit a top, TOP Napa Cabernet. Wow! (3766 views)
Tasted by CR lawrence on 12/12/2013 & rated 95 points: Decanted an hour. Great nose of dark fruit, coffee bean, leather, loamy soil, flower garden. Tannins are well integrated with tastes of dark fruit… a hint of "young" astringency upon initial approach; very long finish. This is a fantastic wine that I'll be very interested to see how it evolves after another 2 years bottle time. (3480 views)
Tasted by Bcw1989 on 3/20/2013 & rated 96 points: Amazing bottle of wine! The style and finish of this wine is amazing. Long, long finish lasting upwards of a minute in length! Hundred Acre is clearly in great drinking form. Still has very present tannins, but are starting to mute a bit. Color was very dark, inky look to it. Taste was loads of leather, berries, cassis, tobacco, and lots of terroir. This wine was an absolute delight to drink even though it was paired with Japanese food. Still this Hundred Acre wine was able to really show!

Tasted by CR lawrence on 1/25/2013 & rated 97 points: What a stunning wine; it was my Birthday wine choice, and a pleasure to share. A wonderful floral nose of dark fruit, cherries, bridal leather, tobacco and loam; long legs. Taste was both elegant and bold, a long enveloping mouthfeel of all the above, sweet-but-not-too-sweet soft tannins pushing all those senses to the limit. I look frward to this wine improving with time. (3870 views)
Tasted by mnh on 11/9/2012 & rated 93 points: Medium purple. New world cab nose. Very ripe, long mid palate. Very ripe. (2847 views)
Tasted by Niagara on 8/28/2012 & rated 95 points: Delicious. A wine so good, it's almost even better without food. (4021 views)
Tasted by Bcw1989 on 6/22/2012 & rated 95 points: You expect a lot from Hundred Acre, and this Ark Vineyard lives up to this expectation. Pure silk when it warmed up to room temperature. Tannins were very present and the finish was easily over 45 seconds. Dark inky look with notes of coffee, leather, and loads of fruit. This wine will even be better in a few more years of cellaring. Certainly one of the better Hundred Acre vintages that I have tried. Closer to perfection. Great wine experience!

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
