Tasted by WyoWino on 12/8/2023 & rated 94 points: Great wine. Still going strong. Was not able to give formal notes but definitely a great example of Cabernet Sauvignon. Would definitely purchase again if it can be found. (362 views)
 Tasted by 1964vintage on 12/26/2021 & rated 95 points: Outstanding (1030 views)
Tasted by jeginmt on 9/12/2021 & rated 95 points: Outstanding. Dark, opaque, dense body, complex flavors, including raspberries and cherries, intense tannins that begin to soften a few hours after opening, high acidity. It’s powerful but not overpowering. Can take many more years of aging, but no need to wait. (1032 views)
Tasted by GQG on 12/22/2020 & rated 96 points: Impassioned, unreserved, and forceful on opening, it's delicious from the get-go and 4.5 hours later it's smoothed out and has opened up beautifully. Solid depth and tannins blend full throttle with dark fruit, licorice, and minerality, delivering it all through the finish with energy and avoiding any semblance of flab. Drink now with a long decant or hold as this wine has years left in the tank. (1694 views)
Tasted by Indywinefan on 9/7/2020 & rated 96 points: Great wine. Some floral notes. Taste of dark cherry, cola, licorice. Has acidity and long finish. I thought it was better that the Missouri-Hopper from the same vintage. (1561 views)
Tasted by 1964vintage on 4/30/2020 & rated 93 points: In a great spot. Beautiful wine !! (1542 views)
Tasted by KTelaak_Buffalo on 10/10/2019 & rated 92 points: Solid wine. Still appears quote young with a fair amount of acidity and tannins monopolizing the fruit. Delicious nonetheless. I'd prefer to try this in a few more years. (1395 views)
Tasted by csimm on 3/23/2019 & rated 95 points: Delivered as expected given last year’s performance, the 2014 Cloudy’s continues to kick out a solid bevy of dark/black flavors; black raspberry, blueberry, black currant, asphalt, black soil, and some bitter chocolate. Medium-to-full bodied, with a notable mineral cut that elevates the black and blue core fruit. Finishes focused and framed-out, with finely grained tannins adding texture to the back end. A great amalgamation of flavor, drive, backbone, and overall mouthfeel.

This was a PnP and did not need a decant (though air in the glass opened it up nicely). Drink now and over the next 3-5+ years. (3903 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 3/3/2019 & rated 94 points: Dark ruby fruit - dark raspberry, dark currants, blackberry, and dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth/concentration, however, I thought the fruit came across a little lighter than around a year ago. Nice flavors of dark berries, some spice/licorice, and a little mineral/graphite component. Fairly long finish. Decanted for one hour and drank over a couple more. Improved a little with time but drinking quite well after the decant. Although still fairly young, I personally can't see this vintage getting much better in light of how well everything is integrated. 100% cab. (3075 views)
Tasted by Cabernetking on 1/28/2019 & rated 94 points: Fabulous. Enough said. (1608 views)
Tasted by GQG on 1/24/2019 & rated 96 points: Lovin' on this 2014 Cloudy's as the rest of my '15 and '16 Napas integrate. Oh so good... power, fruit, and energy. See my previous note for details, it's more of the same. (1591 views)
Tasted by cpbock on 12/25/2018 & rated 91 points: Peppery nose but not very fruit forward (1151 views)
Tasted by GQG on 7/28/2018 & rated 96 points: Amazing juice! My first Janzen Cloudy's Vineyard, and certainly will not be the last. It's a mountain fruit acid-driven energy dynamo!

The moderately floral, earthy nose only hints at the powerhouse of flavor to come. The acid jolted my tongue as if I'd licked a 9-volt battery and then the chewy tannins plugged in and extended the feeling (and I mean that in a good way!) Generating powerful, full tastes of cassis, raspberry liquor, and dark fruit, the acid, tannin, and flavor remains grounded by the minerals and all that energy dissipates slowly over the lengthy finish. Two hour decant, preferred the decanter taste vs. from the bottle over the same time.

Call it renewable energy as I plan to hunt down another bottle or three. (1714 views)
Tasted by HowellMountainCru on 7/3/2018 & rated 95 points: Coravin pour. Came out of the bottle with a slightly brown rim that quickly turned darker purple with air. Powerful nose of ripe dark fruit, floral notes and maybe a hint of earth/wood. First sip and was hit in the face with power. Fairly dense fruit driven palate with notes of cedarwood. Plenty of acid to balance out the fruit which to me gives the impression of black raspberries. Don't know the technical on this wine but I'm guessing a Ph of around 3.75. Because of this apparent acidity and the presence of some medium grained tannins I get a bit of complexity and a very nice finish. Close to Mizzouri Hopper of the same vintage but a bit more focused, complex and less sweet - therefore a 94.5 which is very high marks for me. will update when bottle finished. (1778 views)
Tasted by Mark1npt on 7/3/2018 & rated 95 points: Slightly subdued nose.....classic dark red cab fruit, excellent sugar/acid/tannin balance. Has a bit of a feathery feminine mouthfeel to it right from the open. My first Cloudys and it doesn't disappoint. Second WOTN for us both, losing out only by a smidge to the B Cellars Missouri Hopper. (2360 views)
Tasted by #1Winelover on 6/3/2018 & rated 96 points: Janzen Cloudy's is one of my favorites. It is unique. Cloudy's Vineyard comes from the Eastern hills of Napa, in the Vaca Mountains overlooking St. Helena.

I took this to our favorite local restaurant so I tried to PnP but this needed a couple of hours. In the decanter it went and got better as the night went on.

Dark purple that is opaque; there is nothing cloudy about this wine. A nice strong smell and fruits that match, including blackberry, currant and plum. Strong and pronounced notes of mineral and graphite and a nice long cola-like signature finish. There is a purity of this wine that is just amazing.

Fortunate for some of my friends and our server but unfortunately for me (none left), I gladly shared some pours with friends. They had never heard of Janzen before and were stunned by this wine.

This will get better with time. (2743 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 4/12/2018 & rated 95 points: Decided to pop a bottle for the Real Madrid/Juventus game. Dark ruby fruit - dark raspberry, dark currants, blackberry, and a little dark cherry. Really smooth mid-palate coupled with solid depth/concentration. Nice flavors of dark berries, some spice, and a little mineral/graphite component. Fairly long finish. Decanted for one hour and drank over another three. Improved a little with time but drinking quite well after the decant. In my opinion, the flavor profile and mineral/graphite component of this vintage reminds me of a good Beckstoffer Las Piedras cab. 100% cab. (3193 views)
Tasted by Cristal2000 on 2/8/2018 & rated 94 points: Whirlwind Winter Tasting in the Valley; 2/7/2018-2/10/2018 (Napa Valley, CA): This wine is from elevation, and you can tell with how black the fruit is and how much structure and power there is to the fruit. The nose is very floral, with blackberries, herbs and spice box. Serious wine for 2014, with nice but powerful tannins holding together a core of deep black fruit and earthy elements. Nice long and tasty finish. (3173 views)
Tasted by csimm on 2/8/2018 & rated 95 points: 3-Day Napa Cab Taste-Off: Vice Versa, B Cellars, Memento Mori, Alpha Omega, Purlieu, Janzen, Realm, Myriad, MACDONALD, Maybach, and more...; 2/7/2018-2/9/2018 (Napa): My favorite of the 2014 Janzen wines, notably besting its BTK and MH siblings, especially on the initial attack and with its mid-palate depth. A tremendous amount of drive and concentration, pushing the black and blue core fruit flavors across the palate with a wonderful combination of energy and unctuousness. The finish was 45+ seconds. Some blue and black river rock, asphalt, and pumice flavors intertwined with subtle dark spice notes.

The chewy tannins added to the textural pliability of the gripping flavors, beautifully harnessing the back of the jaw. This had a bit of a mountain quality to it that I found most interesting. For a 2014, this had a lot of formidability and complexity. 95 points. Drink now and over the next 3-5 years. (4811 views)
Tasted by #1Winelover on 10/2/2017 & rated 95 points: Wine tasting with Kyle Janzen (great guy) at B Cellars. Tasted through 2 Pinots, the Bacio Divino Prop Red, and the 3 Janzen SVDs (To-Kalon, Cloudy's, and Missouri Hopper).

Although 1 point lower than To-Kalon, Kyle was nice enough to offer up a bottle and I gladly took the Cloudy's as it fits my profile perfectly and it's the best value.

More notes to come. (2346 views)
Tasted by Badmonkey on 5/27/2017 & rated 96 points: Get together with some friends: 2014 Outpost True cab, 2014 Janzen Cloudy's cab, 2014 Myriad Beckstoffer Georges cab, 2014 Quivet Kenefick cab, 2013 Arkenstone cab, and 2014 Rudy cab.

Looking forward to revisiting this wine after barrel tasting it last May. Dark blue and red fruit - blueberry, dark raspberry, and a little dark cherry. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth. Nice vibrant flavors of wild berries and a little graphite/mineral component. Decent finish but not overly long nor deep. Decanted for one hour and drank over another three. Improved a little with time but quite approachable now after a decent decant. However, I believe this vintage could use another year or two for the fruit to open-up a little more especially on the back-end. In my opinion, at the upper end of Parker's 94 to 96 rating. Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
