Community Tasting Notes (average 93 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 6 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by guillermo- on 1/27/2024 & rated 93 points: This is very different and very good. Glossy grayish yellow in color. On the nose almonds, pineapple and maybe bergamot announce the oxidative style. Mouthwatering acidity on the tongue perfectly balanced by a strong but somehow refreshing flavor with notes of papaya, Meyer lemon, lime and hints of toasted walnuts and hazelnuts. Long, nutty finish. Considering it's almost 10 years old, it can likely go a further 6 years or more, but that's more of a guess.

I rarely would rate an oxidative white highly, but here we are. (387 views)
Tasted by brigcampbell on 2/17/2019: Love this wine. Really strong mineral as the basis for strong citrus flavors. Lemon, lime, and pineapple. Supposedly there was 20% new oak but it's nowhere to be seen. Clean, lean, and mean the way I like my chardonnay. (7009 views)
Tasted by Ron Felthoven on 8/26/2017: Gorgeous with bright acidity. Unlike so many other CA chards. (6484 views)
Tasted by Andrew H on 6/3/2017 & rated 93 points: Very enjoyable Chardonnay. Crisp, tropical fruit, peach, honeydew, minimal oak and butter to clog things up. Well done. (5782 views)
Tasted by brigcampbell on 2/20/2017: Falltacular 2016; 2/18/2017-2/20/2017 (FMIII in the OC): Again, great balance and green apple. I really enjoyed the edginess and tension of this wine. Good acidity. (6799 views)
Tasted by MarkH on 1/25/2017 & rated 93 points: Delightful. I find among my favorite chards Williams Selyem Heintz Vineyard and Varner El Camino Vineyard. I like them for their bright, clean and refreshing characteristics. This Ladd chardonnay embodies the good traits of those wines, but up a step, with a wonderful balance: bright, refreshing with mid-ripe fruit, great mouth feel and mid-palate happiness I rarely find. The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
