Tasted by Dionysos55 on 11/6/2023 & rated 97 points: Wow !!! (329 views)
Tasted by BradE on 2/15/2022: Trio of 1983, 1990, & 1991: The 1983 was lovely, graceful, and charming, all in an understated way. Essentially everything you want with this vintage. The 1990 was robust, and a bit of a bruiser. Great fruit, drank very well, yet still an adolescent at age 32. The 1991 was class in a glass, and ultimately my favorite. While the phrase balanced is out of vogue with many tasters, this was balanced (there, I said it). Edging into its tertiary phase, the 1991 is simply a complete and fantastic wine. The trio was a great example of 1+1+1 equaling much more than 3. A delightful tasting. (1404 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 10/27/2021 & rated 95 points: A fantastic Ponsot which lives up to the reputation for its emralded 91 vintage. Floral, stemmy and red fruit driven. Palate is classy, feminine and dense. So alluring and sexy. 95-96 (1612 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 11/21/2020 & rated 95 points: Young bottle with depth of dark red fruit and underlying soil tones. Emerging spice bouquet. 95+ (2024 views)
Tasted by BradE on 11/9/2019: Ponsot Clos de la Roche: All in all, another gorgeous and classic 1991 burgundy. Iodine on the palate, tertiary elements. Outstanding. (2650 views)
Tasted by Peech on 9/16/2019 & rated 95 points: opened and served more than 2½ hours later from bottle. Very elegant and smooth. (689 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 1/7/2019 & rated 96 points: Fresh and young bottle. Brooding soil and tar notes balanced by pure dark red fruit. Perfect bottle (2122 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 2/1/2018 flawed bottle: Nose was in line, if somewhat subdued. Palate reasonable but not what this wine should be. Brownish tint to the backpalate likely reflecting a storage issue. (2664 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 1/20/2017 & rated 94 points: 99W/91R. Single blind with 91 Drouhin Musigny. Muddy look, sediments. Relatively dark red fruit with medicinal, stewed fruit notes across palate. More savage, strong backbone. (3486 views)
Tasted by fclarity on 7/31/2016 & rated 95 points: Tasted blind, this wine had a deep red center with light red/slightly orange rims. The medium intensity nose showed black cherries, blackberries, orange peel, brown spices, and some soil.

In the mouth, this wine was all about ripe fruit. It was big and bold in its ripeness. Despite this, it did not come off as heavy or ponderous. It had nice rounded tannins, light acidity, and very good length. It had nice integration and a fine-grained texture.

Overall, I thought this wine still seemed a bit young and showing some "baby fat". My guess is that it might improve a point or so over the next 5-10 years. (3432 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 6/13/2016 & rated 95 points: From magnum, which seems to be particularly important with this wine. This is showing power with grace, confidence and quiet authority. Lovely firm fruit and density. Not particularly long on the finish however. Tannins are ripe and clean. (3380 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/3/2016 & rated 93 points: Zachys La Paulee "Warm-up" Dinner (Boulevard - San Francisco CA): Small glass, brief note. Still nicely fresh fruit with some game notes. Everything nicely balanced, very good textures, very persistent. Lots of pleasure tonight. (3182 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 3/3/2016 & rated 92 points: Simple but smooth nose with primary fruit and a little spice. Somewhat jammy palate with distinct cherry notes. Low to moderate acid but enough fruit that this will perform for some time yet (2788 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 12/23/2015 & rated 94 points: Tinybubbles is right on here - very tasty and beautifully integrated here. (2169 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 11/17/2015 & rated 92 points: A more advanced bottle than other examples I have had, not surprising from 375. Still, took 45 minutes of air time to really open. Dark fruit (becoming somewhat muddled), traces of gamey notes, some earth tones, and very little spice. Tannins completely resolved in this bottle. Drink now, certainly in this format (1812 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 2/26/2015 & rated 94 points: Classic Ponsot CdlR red and dark fruit, but with less sweet spice than other top vintages. Tannins have been well integrated at this point presenting a very smooth drinking experience. Quite refined although more focused on the fruit than on spice and secondary earthy notes than my favorite vintages. (2216 views)
Tasted by galenico on 5/14/2014 & rated 96 points: CENA DI COMPLEANNO BORGOGNA: Rubino con unghia aranciata, corpo piuttosto limpido ed esile.
Il naso parte in sordina, come i vecchi santoni centenari, che misurano il passo, ma custodiscono grandi segreti. Sottobosco, pelle e the nero.
Il vino è sicuramente al suo picco e forse qualche anno fa avrebbe raggiunto i 100 punti, con un po' più di acidità e tannino sarebbe stato ancora più piacevole, ma è ancora in grado di stupire e farsi bere con gusto.
In bocca esplode.... terziarizzazione esoterica.
(3197 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 1/6/2013 & rated 98 points: Orange rim, unbelievable complexity, elegance and poise, has shed nearly all tannin, great length. Not decanted it holds up for some hours. No need to hurry, in my opinion it should last for some years if well stored. (3886 views)
Tasted by plitton on 11/23/2012 & rated 95 points: Purchased at release for $86. Incredibly well made, balanced burgundy. Fruit, tannins, alcohol were all in harmony and nothing in particular stood out. A great pair with Thanksgiving. (3600 views)
Tasted by Caruso on 4/21/2011 & rated 97 points: Despite of some recent notes on erobertparker: From my personal cellar (i purchased only 2 bottles) this is still a extraordinary wine of great complexity, length and depth. The rusty colour is suggesting to drink it up, but in my opinion it will last for some more years if it is well stored at textbook temperatures. Otherwise drink it up immediately. (4658 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 1/11/2011 & rated 95 points: This wine has an ethereal nose, quite lovely and beautifully mature now - certainly a very pleasing wine but not profound, just short by a hair. (3705 views)
Tasted by bunhiong on 2/16/2010 & rated 95 points: the wine is probably heading towards it's peak now, good purity and "transparency" to it, acidity is finally tamed and should be @ its peak for the next 10 years. best burgundy i have tasted in a while, better than the 75 la tache tasted alongside. (4185 views)
Tasted by Harrypotter on 12/1/2009: Aromatically - ripe cherry red pez aromas. On the palate medium plus density slightly dusty tannin nice fruit with strong clove influence. 93 (3650 views)
Tasted by 83AJ on 1/11/2007 & rated 95 points: 2nd bottle of the evening, much bigger with lots of fruit on the nose. could use 2hr decant . Amazing burgundy! (4196 views)
Tasted by 83AJ on 1/8/2007 & rated 90 points: fruit forward, light color, nice strong flavors , (4083 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
