Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.2 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 105 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by NiklasT on 4/7/2024 & rated 91 points: Exceeded expetations, gained some weight with time but still very fresh and citrus-driven. Will be interesting to see where this goes with another five years, certainly has the acidity to age further. (328 views)
Tasted by Stanrocks on 11/19/2023 & rated 91 points: 91/93 Tasting for Acid structure purposes alone a acid driven wines...

Pale to medium yellow,

A bit Cold first, lemon zest, light oak, slow buttery, popcorn, lemon, struck match... very chardy

Palate is surrounding acidity profile, enveloping, a "sweet feel" as much as it is dry and acid driven ! sharp and very long finish... superb wine with 12.5 alcohol ...

Great job Jamie (674 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 10/1/2023 & rated 87 points: Hazy straw yellow; lemon, hint of vanilla; quite acidic (too much), slightly prickling (?), sourness; it is not bad as such and has an underlying density / intensity, which I like, but overall impression is either an off-bottle or in a muted phase (744 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 8/23/2023 & rated 91 points: Light yellow; exotic fruit, vanilla; rich taste, good acidity, perhaps a bit on the sour side, quite rich middle and a long aftertaste; likeable but somehow a bit out of sync (785 views)
Tasted by snipes on 11/15/2022: Sublime. Opened a bottle to go along with a proposal. She said yes! (1306 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 10/18/2022 & rated 92 points: My last and in my opinion drunk at the right time - the relatively light hybrid old/new world style does not give itself to long ageing.
Drink up soon. (1283 views)
Tasted by bound4er on 10/1/2022 & rated 92 points: Well made Cali Chardonnay. Old World in style which I like. Seems to be drinking extremely well at this point in time. (1190 views)
Tasted by brigcampbell on 5/2/2022: Kutch Grand Tasting Round 1; 4/25/2022-5/3/2022 (FMIII in the OC): The color has a green hue, that’s a good sign for me. Nose is lemon zest with an emphasis on the zest. I’m tasting the matchstick or sulphur which typically stays as an aroma. I’m okay with that. Tart pear and a short finish. This doesn’t quite have the acid of the others, it’s still great, just not the crisp corners. (2004 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 5/1/2022: Kutch Verticals--Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (My House): As compared to the 2014 and 2015, this 2016 is more softly built, open textured, delicious, more ready to go. Juicy, same spicy notes as the 2015, just not as powerful. Well composed and balanced, I'd drink this vintage now. (1976 views)
Tasted by Sonoffalstaff on 5/1/2022 & rated 88 points: I had hoped this was going to develop into something special. Sadly te attempt to make a more restrained Sonoma has just stripped the wine of the most interesting aspects. So see the other notes which are accurate descriptions but I’d stick to the Pinot which is excellent (1316 views)
Tasted by River Rat on 4/30/2022: Kutch Retrospective Sonoma County Chardonnay/Sonoma Cost Pinot Noir; 4/30/2022-5/1/2022 (FMII’s in San Juan Capistrano): Pale straw, fresh cut red apple peel, kinda linear palate, kinda open and ready to go now. A touch non-descript. (1643 views)
Tasted by tak4 on 2/5/2022: Not an overwhelmingly awesome wine to my palate but on a price performance level this was really good. Clean and crisp and was very obviously made with care. I had consumed one of these earlier and I do agree that these could use a little bit of time. (1518 views)
Tasted by Klugi Wine on 12/9/2021 & rated 92 points: Similar to last note. Interesting to have some of those classical Sonoma notes in the bouquet combined with a mouthwatering freshness. (1510 views)
Tasted by Broch6833 on 11/5/2021 & rated 91 points: Clean, bright, citrusy. If you don't like oaky, buttery Cali chard, then this is for you.

Really humming right now. (1531 views)
Tasted by BradA on 9/19/2021 & rated 92 points: Simply fantastic! Clean lemon, a bit of flint and a crisp tight finish that still coats and lingers. Starting to strut its stuff and could go for 3-5 years. (1858 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 9/8/2021: Over 2 years since the previous bottle (which we had as part of a vertical of Chardonnay when we visited Jamie). So, there are some clear differences for the bottle that I opened yesterday. First, just a single wine, tasted over two days. And, this has enjoyed some aeration (just sitting in the open bottle under cork overnight) and has enjoyed another 2 years of bottle age since the last time I opened one. In sum, this all affords me some deeper perspective and a stronger tasting note to follow. The aromatic is toasty, probably from the limited but impactful new oak it saw. Maybe a little of the reduction too that is/was so much of what defined the 2014. Over the last 24 hours, this has become less fruit-driven and is now pumping a bit harder on the mineral and dried lime notes. Yesterday, it showed pear, tangerine, lemon oil and yellow apple, yet today the citrus as seen through the lemony signature and the dried lime is much more prominent. Hell, even some saline coming through the finish, along with the refreshing acidity. Aeration really changed this wine and so I would encourage (if you are able) to open and track the wine over time and watch how it evolves, as the expression does change. Overall, in my view, this is neither fading nor does the acidity seem out of balance with the wine. Drinking fantastic. (2194 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 8/30/2021 & rated 92 points: Continues to impress as per my detailed note. Nevertheless, in my view, approaching the precipice at the end of its plateau.
Impressive now but for drinking up over the next year or so. (1550 views)
Tasted by Seanwsmithm3 on 8/7/2021: Nice Reduction, Ripping Acid. Yummy but will wait another 4-5 years before popping another. (1518 views)
Tasted by Rieslingfan on 6/20/2021: In a word, fascinating. There is so much going on in this wine it is hard to know where to begin. The unique white pepper note might be a good place to start. Maybe the struck flint that isn’t in your face, but rather carried on a breeze from an adjacent camp site. The fruit is present, but does not lend itself to easy analysis. That’s really all to the good, as a dry recitation of descriptors does not convey what is really going on with this wine. What is going on is an expression of the sum of its parts. It is a complete wine, with all the components in balance. It’s early in the journey of where it is going, but impatient me has blown through almost all of my bottles. I knew it was good when it was released. I did not know it was this good. (1901 views)
Tasted by kevinpatrick on 6/10/2021: Wine Night in Charlotte -- Cork Vault Bottle Share Returns! (Charlotte, NC): Pop-n-pour to kick off the evening. Bright citrus aromas burst out of the glass. Soft minerality on the palate, lemon zest and green apple notes dance lightly into a soft finish. Fantastic starter white in the Charlotte heat and humidity ahead of a murderer’s row of big, heavy reds. (1669 views)
Tasted by R.H. on 4/19/2021: Kutch strikes again (1675 views)
Tasted by kevinpatrick on 4/10/2021 & rated 93 points: Aged Napa versus Aged Bordeaux at Cork Vault (Charlotte, NC): Pop-n-poured. Consistent with March 30 note. Golden straw color with an opulent nose of lively citrus fruits. Smooth on the palate the wine has a nice backbone, delightful minerality, green apple flavors followed by notes of lemon zest that layer into a savory finish. Consistently achieves that delicious balance of New World fruits in an Old World (Burgundian) style. Six hours later the wine was still singing and just a joy of a wine. (2017 views)
Tasted by kevinpatrick on 3/30/2021 & rated 93 points: Cigar Night audible to Cork Vault Charlotte (Charlotte, NC): Pop-n-poured with friends at Cork Vault while we waited for the '07 Whitehall Lane Millennium MM Vineyard to get some air. Golden straw color with an opulent nose of lively citrus fruits. Smooth on the palate the wine has a nice backbone giving some weight to the delightful green apple flavors followed by notes lemon zest. Interestingly the fruits show a lot of New World "pop" on the palate for a wine that otherwise has old world aromas, structure, and style. An exceedingly well-crafted wine showing great life at 5 years of age and no signs of slowing down. Hope I can hold some back to check in on them in a few years though right now it is superb.  Tasted by Klugi Wine on 3/29/2021 & rated 92 points: Consistent to last tasting note. (1553 views)
Tasted by t_moderne on 2/13/2021 & rated 92 points: Pop and Pour and enjoyed initially on its own and then with food (Ramen with beef in a chasu sauce, roasted asparagus and Ajitsuke Tamago, in case you were wondering.)
Light straw color.
Nose offers lemon peel, lemon curd and pink grapefruit zest. Touch of sea spray and vanillin in there as well.
Fresh, bright intro on the palate, with lemon curd and some green apple. Perhaps a tropical fruit note as well. Good depth. Nice finish.
Quite enjoyable. (1617 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
