Tasted by rwerner on 12/3/2023 & rated 94 points: The last bottle of this opened was 5 years ago and this is still a favorite in my cellar. The wine is at its best and I suspect it could have still been cellared for more years. Delicious big fruit with a well balanced long delicious finish. (245 views)
Tasted by kabert on 11/23/2023 & rated 92 points: Super. Almost black and pretty full-bodied. Loads of primary fruit; still tannins on back end. Better than bottle two years ago. (217 views)
Tasted by Soonerchamp on 6/17/2022 & rated 90 points: Seemed to be slightly in decline. Blind tasting group thought it was a right bank Bordeaux. (912 views)
Tasted by kabert on 11/26/2021 & rated 91 points: Not the best Pride CF I’ve had but very enjoyable with dinner of grilled sausage. Still mostly primary fruit flavors. (1102 views)
Tasted by sw92130 on 12/28/2019 & rated 90 points: I was worried this was past it’s prime after using the Coravin for a glass. But upon opening, it really came to life over the course of 2 hours. Still balanced fruit and tannins. Very enjoyable. (1916 views)
Tasted by Harry Cantrell on 5/4/2019 flawed bottle: Corked (2288 views)
Tasted by rwerner on 12/2/2017 & rated 94 points: Tannins have softened to make for a wine that is the at the perfect tie in the cycle to drink. Well balanced, nice note, good fruit. Wonderful (2983 views)
Tasted by ewasowicz on 2/25/2017 & rated 95 points: Nose: caramel, dark fruit
Taste: very smooth with a long finish of black berry, anise, charcoal. (3631 views)
Tasted by SteelerFan on 8/1/2016 & rated 91 points: Drinking well. Fresh with assertive fruit (plum, cherry) and smooth tannins. Very enjoyable. (4125 views)
Tasted by spectrumphoto on 2/20/2016 & rated 91 points: Past the primr...a bit soft but very nice (3682 views)
Tasted by brianofthevine on 2/20/2016 & rated 90 points: Similar to others here with black cherry, plum, along with earth, mocha, and some herbal notes. Good, not great. (4088 views)
Tasted by spectrumphoto on 1/8/2016 & rated 96 points: damn...drinking great right now....still (3101 views)
Tasted by garambler on 10/17/2015 & rated 91 points: I took this to a friends Cabernet Franc tasting on 10/17/15. It had a rich, deep bouquet of black cherry, plum, mocha, cocoa, anise, sage, bay leaf and spice aromas. The palate was rich, deep and dry with flavors of black cherry, plum, bay leaf, herb and spice. 90+ (2211 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 8/2/2015 & rated 88 points: very ripe plum with a bit of prune; nicely integrated straw notes. With age, this has become softer and riper than i prefer. (2047 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 6/13/2015 & rated 88 points: Time to Taste 2000 Bordeaux (R&D's): From magnum, courtesy of Rich and Rose. Aromas of coffee, herbs, plum and dark fruit. Shows a bit hot. Full-bodied with firm tannins. Coffee, tea, dark fruit and herb flavors. Big and somewhat monolithic. (2622 views)
Tasted by FLI on 6/13/2015 & rated 93 points: Outstanding. A great example of the varietal, but not vegetal as some francs can be. Very soft fruit, well integrated tannins. Sorry to see my last bottle go. (1641 views)
Tasted by RickyT12 on 9/14/2014 & rated 90 points: Nice dark reddish purple
Green pepper, a bit of chocolate, a little heat, but nice vegetal flavors. A little leather mixed with cherry on the palette. Very soft wine. Low acid, heavy body. Tasty stuff. (3686 views)
Tasted by Night Train on 6/21/2014 & rated 90 points: Took this to a party, so I was only able to drink one 4 ounce pour shortly after it was opened. Seems to be holding up reasonably well, although one taster said he thought it was past its prime. Nice nose, texture, and finish. Not as yummy as earlier vintages, but it showed all kinds of pleasant complexities - sage, cedar, fig, tobacco, etc. Probably time to drink up. (2908 views)
Tasted by Steve's Cellar on 6/4/2014 & rated 90 points: Took to the Cisco MoD Wine tasting event co-hosted with John Manville. (2777 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 5/23/2014: 80% Cabernet Franc, 12% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon all from Sonoma County. 14.8% alcohol. 1128 cases made. (2607 views)
Tasted by FLI on 4/2/2014 & rated 92 points: Rich berries, smooth tannins. Slurpable goodness. No vegetal or green notes, but still clearly a franc. Very nice. (2682 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 11/24/2013 & rated 90 points: Pop and pour, the last bottle bites the dust. Red fruit, fig and bell pepper on the nose, hint of cedar. Medium-light body, watery mature red fruit, tight oak. As in my last note this is in its wheelhouse and while it could last longer, it won't improve further. (2420 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 11/23/2013: (magnum) Audozed 7 hours, served non-blind. Held since release, this appears to be ageing as expected. Fully mature aromas that have less in common with Cab Franc than say, Cab Sauv, this wine is more about the style than the place or grape. Nonetheless, the acidity is lively, the tannins, sweet and round, which gives the fruit a proper forum to display its richness, and bright spiciness. Tobacco, caramel and ripe blackberries dominate the nose and palate. I paired this with eggplant parm and homemade pasta/gravy, and as has been mentioned, this worked very well with a rich tomato-based sauce/gravy. In a really good place now, not likely to get better, only different. 14,8% abv is fully resolved (2543 views)
Tasted by jmoulder on 9/28/2013 & rated 91 points: Took an hour or so to open up, but then it was a really nicely balanced wine. Old world style, with napa body. A little earthy and more tannic than your typical napa wine, but then it is a cab franc. Stronger fruit than a Bordeaux cab franc, and not as earthy.

Surprisingly , it has a little less heft than their merlot from this vintage. Still an excellent wine, just different in style from the merlot. (2269 views)
Tasted by davidandrose on 9/2/2013: Pop and pour on a warm Memorial Day, served with Thai-marinated rack of lamb. Herbs, mature dark fruit and slight alcohol on the nose. Starting to lose weight in the mouth compared to earlier years, but some aeration still shows lots of blue fruit and a very fine silky coating that reveals lightly toasted wood and vanilla. Taste lingers on for a good 20-25 seconds, more than the mouthfeel/weight would lead one to expect; None of the green notes I previously detected. I'm guessing this is in its prime, will drink my remaining bottle by early 2014 (2249 views)

2006 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Franc

A long, temperate growing season in 2006 provided us with Cabernet Franc grapes ripened to perfection, a feat that always requires patience in this late-ripening variety. Our terraced Cabernet Franc vines are among the oldest planted blocks within our mountain-top vineyard, producing small clusters with darkly colored, concentrated berries. Bright red-fruit notes of strawberry and plum are interwoven with warm baking spice, brown sugar and graphite. The textured palate provides grip, but overall the feel of the wine is one of balanced saturation. Blended with 12% Merlot to flesh out the mid-palate and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon to add substance, ours is consistently a wine that reveals the potential of fully ripe Cabernet Franc grapes.

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wines & Vines article

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

North Coast

The North Coast American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California, covering more than three million acres, includes Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, and portions of Marin and Solano counties. (see The Wine Institute for more information)
