Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 9/19/2018: They don't push this out. Just arrived in California. Same blend as Chianti Classico Ama. 90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot. The thing that is changed is 20% in barrique 2nd and 3rd passage for just 60 days. The idea is it gives it a little bit more depth. Savory and veal stock on the nose. Or some sort of stock. Savory on the palate. That's a big rose but not in a bad way. Its a big boy of a wine. A winter Rose. A proper wine, not just a beverage. (2001 views)
Tasted by Joe Kane on 9/19/2018: 97% sangio, touch of merlot. 20% barrique for 60 days for depth. Very rich nose and earth quality to it. Moderate plus complexity than many other roses at that price. (1930 views)
Tasted by steve.smoral@gmail.com on 8/11/2018 & rated 91 points: Very bright - not too sweet. perfect balance (1898 views)
Tasted by Stonewell on 7/27/2018 & rated 90 points: Un rosé corsé au fruité savoureux (fraises cerises), bonne longueur, parfait au repas! (1875 views)
Tasted by Guy Des Rosiers on 6/30/2018 & rated 86 points: Deep salmon core. Bright nose of strawberry, rhubarb and field flowers. Medium-bodied, with a flavor profile that deftly straddles the line between red and white, mirroring the nose, with the gentlest of tannic hints on the finish. The brightness and concentration of flavor speaks to the quality of the underlying fruit. Lovely. (613 views)

Castello di Ama

Producer website
Location on Google Map

Castello di Ama’s 65.38 hectares of specialised vineyards, officially enrolled in the Chianti Classico Register, are located at elevations between 390 and 530 metres in calcareous-clay, pebble-rich soils.
Part of the vineyards were planted between 1974 and 1978, at an average density of 3,000 vines per hectare, while newer plantings at a density of 5,300 vines per hectare, starting in 1996 and continuing to the present date, replace the outdated vineyards.
The vines are vertically trained, to the open lyre pruned to the Guyot system, and to spurred cordon.
The varieties, grafted onto rootstock 420, are 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
