Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.2 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 34 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Tgood on 3/3/2024: Deep dark pigment - rather explosive tobacco and cherry perfume - wound up and concentrated on palate - lively structure of tartness and energetic spicy tannins - tremendous juice - and when considering the tariff an extraordinary bargain. (381 views)
Tasted by acyso on 10/8/2023 & rated 85 points: Vinetasters: Young Northern Rhône (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Darker nose, with a hint of coffee and a slight bit of green astringency. Also a strange candied berries note here as well. On the palate, this gets quite weedy and green, and there's almost too much acidity here. Comes across slightly unbalanced to me. Makes me think this is something like a petite syrah or zinfandel. My 10th, group's 7th. (1614 views)
Tasted by GuWin on 8/27/2022 & rated 90 points: Dyp mørk rød med svakt utviklet murstensfarget kant.
Litt ‘in your face’ duft til å begynne med, her dominerer bålrøyk og røkt bacon, et lett fjøspreg, kompost og fuktig trevirke, men også sursøte bær og et lite urtepreg.
(2112 views)
Tasted by James Kim on 8/14/2022 & rated 90 points: Decanted. Now 2.5h after decant. A bit lactic when first opened. Now aromas of smoky grilled meats, tart red cherries, cranberries, herbs, and minerals. Palate w tart cherries and cranberries, grilled meat, a bit of balsamic vinegar, minerals. Full body w mild+ tannins. Excellent acids. Nice lingering finish of tart fruit, some balsamic, herbs and minerals. This is nicely done. 90+ (1995 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 7/14/2022 & rated 90 points: Beautiful pure syrah purple fruit. Good depth and weight. Amazing value. (2342 views)
Tasted by vinkeger on 4/6/2022 & rated 91 points: Denne fortsetter å drikke bra. Litt trang start, men kommer etter hvert. Begynner virkelig å synge på glass nummer to. (2290 views)
Tasted by gbejjani on 11/28/2021 & rated 91 points: A lot of typicity, checks all the boxes of a good Northern Rhône Syrah from a Côte Rôtie icon. Call it a budget CR! Just outside of the appellation area.

Tasted by rjpbath on 6/5/2021: Delightful and delicious. I last bought this wine in the 07 vintage, and the price for this vintage was roughly 3 x the 07.....such is the premium for Jamet wines now.... Still, strangely I think it is (just) worth it. Intense syrah fruit but elegant in the extreme, everything in its place and no creases, as if dressed in haute couture. Could keep for at least 5 more years. (2521 views)
 Tasted by pren on 3/31/2021 & rated 90 points: 第一天,非常好,气味典型,有漂亮的香气,口中也很好。第二天,差很多。第三次,有明显的类似primary 水果的甜味,两小时不散,其他尚可 (2719 views)
Tasted by eoinhharkins on 2/7/2021 & rated 91 points: Really enthusiastic and when great with a dry aged double cut my prime, nose was really expressive with notes of black olive, dried game, spices and dark berries, medium bodied with moderate tannins, medium acidity and length (2627 views)
Tasted by Ms. Bubblehead on 2/2/2021 & rated 88 points: Speaking to a good friend recently, he convinced me to get back to posting notes. So after taking most of 2020 off, here I am and unfortunately have encountered a rather average bottle of this previously good offering from one of my favorite Rhone houses. Nose was good - spicy, lighter red fruit, pepper, but palate has lost of lot of the grip it had a few years ago making me think either: these Cotes du Rhones need to be consumed or maybe there is something specific about this vintage. (2909 views)
Tasted by Poujeaux on 10/14/2020 & rated 91 points: Ripe cherries, crowberries, violets, coffee, aceton on the nose.

Cherries, raw beef, crowberries, chocolate, pear on the palate.

Fruity. Fresh. Highly enjoyable. (2722 views)
Tasted by oboeurenius on 10/10/2020 & rated 90 points: Nydelig, digger Jamet! (1993 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 6/13/2020 & rated 90 points: A private lunch (Restaurant Rijsel, Amsterdam, NL): Made from 100% Syrah, vineyards adjacent to Côte Rôtie, bottled October 2018, a modest 13% ABV. Glossy and bright Syrah fruit, pure and precise style, flowers and black peper, medium body, fresh and clean, grippy finish. (3166 views)
Tasted by MauriceE on 5/10/2020: Excellent QPR. Decanted 1,5 hours before drinking, it really needs this. Then exciting, open, funky (in a positive way), lovely. (2263 views)
Tasted by grapenomad on 1/20/2020 & rated 88 points: Dark, deep violet in the glass. If you can call a nose rounded, this one would be just that. Nothing jumping out, but all that one expects from a Rhone Syrah is there - black plum, blackberry, dark cherry, black olive, bit of Brett, bit of leather saddle. Quite complex for a Cote du Rhone. Medium-bodied with good acid, firm tannins and high alcohol. Medium finish. (3052 views)
Tasted by Ms. Bubblehead on 1/3/2020: Opened Wednesday and finished the remainder this evening. I think this is one of the best young 'value' wines out there. One aspect that is so striking about it is how the aromatics shoot out of the glass with spice and meat sensations with no hints of heat or alcohol. On the 3rd day the 'animale' character faded out and more purple fruits and sweet elegance. (2693 views)
Tasted by olks on 12/4/2019 & rated 90 points: cranberries, lightly smoky, subtle sweetness, good acidity (2428 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 12/1/2019 & rated 90 points: During a walkabout tasting with very small pours, so only brief impressions. This is a pleasant, fruity Syrah wtih good typicity but no where near the stellar Cote Rotie from this house. (3171 views)
Tasted by vinkeger on 11/9/2019 & rated 92 points: Igjen en nydelig flaske. Trenger 10 minutter i glasset før den synger. Ytterst raffinert på duft. Juicy og vektløs i munn. Hyperelegante tanniner. Burgundersk og som en ballerina. (2419 views)
Tasted by Bobhelge on 10/26/2019 & rated 91 points: Primary blackberry fruit with juniper and pepper on topp. Delicious CDR which needs a couple or three hours in the decanter. (2119 views)
Tasted by vinkeger on 10/19/2019 & rated 92 points: Åpen og nydelig nese med imponerende kompleksitet for nivået. Sømløs vin i munn. Både generøs og delikat. Drikker godt allerede, men blir sikkert enda kulere med litt alder. (2199 views)
Tasted by Tgood on 10/18/2019 & rated 95 points: Deep ruby black at core in well-lit dinner setting. Immediate effusive nose of bbq meat and black cherry. Nice tannins and acids. Drinks well above price point- bravo. (1880 views)
Tasted by Raage on 9/30/2019 & rated 90 points: A l'aveugle (Les av.)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

Northern Rhône

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

### 2017 vintage ###
"The first red wines already tasted in the Northern Rhône promise a beautiful vintage, with a quality close to the 2015 or even the 2009 vintage" - NEWRHÔNE MILLESIMES
