| Community Tasting Notes (average 95.6 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 12 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by rcb25 on 10/21/2023: Ganevat Mon Pere Vertical (Chambers): Leaner, saltier, and edgier than the 2008 tasted ahead of it. No oxidative notes on this one compared to 2008. Finger limes, green apple, crushed pumice stone. I quite liked this at first, it was complex, focused, and the nerviness of it was quite appealing. As time went this became a touch disjointed and developed this acetone laden note on mid-palate that overpowered the rest of the wine and I struggled to see past.
ABV: 12% Closure: natural cork Stem: Korin white stem Decant: N/A; poped and poured and tasted over the course of ~5h Extra info: from vines of Savagnin Vert planted in 1930, on the blue marl of the Chalasses site. Aged for 130 months a la ouille in old demi-muid and barrels after a press à l'ancienne and no racking of the must. A small amount of sulphur is added only at bottling. Vintage info from JF Ganevat: Also complicated and quite lean. There was some botrytis but this time with more grey rot than noble, so intense sorting was required. The delicacy and patina came once again from long ageing. (1067 views) | | Tasted by glou.sf on 8/6/2022 & rated 97 points: Tasted next to the 2008 Overnoy Chardonnay. Wow, the first whiff was already redeeming! Very powerful on the nose with so much going on, but not losing focus. Flavors are of lemon, orange, apple, minerals, and crushed rocks. The palate has a TON of acidity, notes of meyer lemon, lime, grapefruit, and green apple. It appears a bit more backwards than the nose. Long finish. This is outstanding, but really all about potential today. I'd wait at least 7-10 years before opening another one. The Overnoy may have been slightly more enjoyable to drink, but this wine has it all (and maybe too much so right now). 96-97+ (1802 views) | | Tasted by benjamin96 on 8/1/2022 & rated 94 points: Bu avec pete et mes notes sont semblables aux siennes. (1508 views) | | Tasted by EvoPeteMTL on 7/30/2022 & rated 96 points: This was a memorable experience. This wine seems so young still, but it delivered so much punch and complexity to start with. Apples, lemon, strong acidity and right after it falls short and makes you salivate, and want more and more. What a great wine. (1772 views) | | Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 6/25/2022: This Savagnin is quite bretty. There are some good elements though, with notes of Comte cheese, green apple, chalk and lemon. It has a floral thing that reminds me of lantana in the Summer heat and it has great chalky build in the mouth. The finish is tannic, salty and chewy. (1655 views) | | Tasted by Bullethead on 12/18/2021 & rated 95 points: Really laser sharp acidity. Very young and cannot tell its 14 years age. I think it needs 5+ years to develop (1541 views) | | Tasted by mye on 2/1/2021: 100% Savagnin, from blue marl soil in Jura. Aged on average 10 years in cask, topped up regularly ‘ouille’ style. TEN YEARS. I’m blown away by how many layers of flavor this bottle hits you with. Initially you get intense lemon, citrus, green apple. Then a wave of peach, grapefruit, white flowers. There’s a hint of salinity like sea spray, and also minerality with wet stone. As it comes up a little in temp, you get some of the aging factor with a touch of candied orange, cinnamon. Flavors are concentrated, and comes in waves. Acidity is bracing, with an incredible energy driven throughout. Overall laser focused, like it is forcing me to focus and contemplate what’s in my glass. Finish lingers on and on. What does perfection look like in a wine? (2293 views) | | Tasted by hprphf on 1/28/2020 & rated 93 points: Orange, grapefruit, tropical fruit, wet stone, forest floor, curry spice, violet flowers. Intricate nose but the palate is intensely acidic, which somehow distract from the nuances, finished with quite a dose of balanced minerals and salt. Surprising even for this cuvee. 93 (2619 views) | | Tasted by Sleepy Dave on 11/21/2019: En magnum. Decanted half and remaining half in the bottle to access for the next few days to follow the evolution. Very light on Color. Incredibly intense curry leaves aromatic accompany by nice citrus and all sort of yellow fruits. Seashell. Super intense yet light on its foot, the finish is so Long with excellent precision and salinity.
Day 2. Extremely youthful, full of energy-tension-freshness despite this was aged in the barrel (topping up / ouille) for a whopping 8-11yrs. Gotta love the complex salinity, layers of juicy fruits, cool herbs and spices all backing up by the mouth watering (to me, for some might be too sharp) acidity.
Day 3 - Day 7 : This was holding up effortlessly, acidity has mellowed down a bit. (2155 views) | | Tasted by aquacongas on 11/3/2019 & rated 95 points: not blind drank at Selosse place Les avises. A killing aciidty even for my champagne tested palate. So fresh, flintstone, wet stones and some unripe lemon. But the extract sweetness gives him character and substance. genius. 95 (2564 views) | | Tasted by dcwino on 6/9/2019 & rated 95 points: Five winos excellent adventure , mostly in Burgundy; 6/7/2019-6/15/2019 (Beaune, France): Expressive nose displaying succulent yellow citrus and tropical fruit, lemon crud, a hint of pineapple, fresh OJ, candied orange peel, light caramel, beeswax and limestone mineral. Exceptional concentration, layers upon layers of concentrated succulent yellow fruit, dense, rich and deeply tone yet incredibly focused, mouth puckering acidity, strong limestone mineral and a long dense succulent yellow fruit driven finish. This is a big scale wine. I really love the dense yet focused expression. It reminds me the Clos Rougeard Breze a bit, i.e. dense and concentrated yet incredibly focused. (4519 views) |

2018 vintage: "marked by a wet spring, a superb summer and a good harvest" 2019 vintage reports 2021: "From a general standpoint, whether for white, rosé or red wines, 2021 is a year marked by quality in the Rhône Valley Vineyards. Structured, elegant, fresh and fruity will be the main keywords for this new vintage." 2022 harvest: idealwine.info | wine-searcher.comJuraA petite and relatively obscure wine region in eastern France, between Burgundy and the Swiss border. Its geographical isolation has helped it to remain a rare bastion of traditional winemaking techniques, and today it produces some of the most distinctive wines in the world. Reds from the Jura are often light-bodied, earthy, berried, and reminiscent of the village wines of Burgundy (though here they are made of local grapes like Poulsard and Trousseau). While Chardonnay features widely, the true specialty of the region is the Vin Jaune (“yellow wine”) made from the white Savagnin grape. Cloudy, difficult Vin Jaune is made only in the best vintages, and must be aged for at least six years before being released. As it ages under a layer of yeast, known locally as “voile,” the wine slowly oxidizes, leading to complex aromas and flavors that range from walnut skin to sultana to spices and truffles. Famously long lived it is always sold in dumpy 62 cl bottle - the wine lost in production having been taken by les anges.
