Tasted by LetItRide on 1/5/2024 & rated 93 points: Pretty on the nose with white flowers and fresh cut summer hay. Ripe fruit with a medium viscosity mouthfeel that rolls over the tongue with a potpourri of tart cherry, cinnamon spice and earthen delights. The tannins are so subtle that it played well with the cedar plank sockeye salmon fillet entrée & is a versatile food wine .
No rush if you are cellaring a few away for later. (645 views)
Tasted by Joshvoulters on 10/21/2023 & rated 94 points: Pretty magnificent, this. Pours a rusty ruby and the perfumed aromatics jump out of the glass: dried flowers, rose petal, cassia bark, strawberry and dried raspberry, black tea, a hint of golden marzipan. Lifted with a high-toned concentration. A kind of silkiness on the palate, cherry and liquorice, tannins are super fine and round. Refined and elegant with real substance. Incredible value.  Tasted by 5laton on 9/23/2023 flawed bottle: Corked (731 views)
Tasted by forceberry on 9/2/2023 & rated 93 points: 100% Nebbiolo from Carema, aged for a minimum 4 years with at least 30 months in old botti casks. 13,5% alcohol.

Luminous, translucent ruby-red color with a brick-red hue. The nose feels fragrant and savory with aromas of licorice root, brambly raspberries and redcurrants, some meaty tones, a little bit of gravelly minerality, light balsamic nuances, a hint of fresh sour cherry and a touch of pine tar. The wine feels ripe but also quite Burgundian on the palate with a medium body and intense flavors of sweet red cherries and juicy black raspberries, some savory notes of meaty umami, a little bit of stony minerality, light crunchy notes of redcurrants, a hint of licorice root and a touch of sour cherry bitterness. The overall feel is firm and pretty structured, thanks to the high acidity and moderately grippy tannins, but the mouthfeel is still silky rather than tough and tightly-knit. The finish is quite long, dry and moderately grippy with a savory aftertaste of redcurrants and black raspberries, some notes of meaty umami, a little bit of licorice root, light balsamic tones, a hint of sour cherry bitterness and a touch of tar.

A wonderfully silky, elegant and relatively Burgundian Nebbiolo that is still very youthful, fresh and focused. Just like a classic Barolos and Barbarescos, these Caremas need time. Although Caremas don't seem to evolve into something as complex and interesting as the best Barolos and Barbarescos, I feel this wine is still quite far away from its apogee - most likely this wine will arrive at its plateau of maturity after another 7-12 years and then it will stay there for many years more. Even the wine comes from the solar 2015 vintage, this is a terrific, classically styled stuff for people who want their Nebbiolos without any extra weight or ripeness. (817 views)
Tasted by ohne_musik on 8/9/2023 & rated 92 points: Really wonderful, pure and crystalline version of Nebbiolo. Light bodied, Lightly tannic (for neb at any rate), with spring flowers, crisp red cherry fruit, and a touch of funk. Pitch perfect balance - really very morish. Excellent as a food wine, with a simple summer tomato pasta. Drink now or lay down for several years for more complexity, but it’s the kind of Nebbiolo you can feel confident drinking at any age.

Still going strong on day 3, with a touch more clarity and depth, and also a hint of chocolate mint that actually complements the cherry, as strange as that sounds (905 views)
Tasted by LARich on 12/13/2022 & rated 92 points: Fresh and delicious! Light body and easy to drink. Awesome value (1398 views)
Tasted by diggydan on 7/22/2022 & rated 92 points: Very pretty wine, one of my better Envoyer fliers. Much more red fruite, ripe and sweet than I expect from Carema. (1481 views)
Tasted by SARED on 4/19/2022 & rated 90 points: Fun wine with a pretty label. Medium bodied / 13.5% alcohol (from the warmer year of 2015!). Fresh ripe red cherry, juicy red raspberry, red florals, orange tinged acidity with a slightly bitter, softly tannic finish. Shorter finish, but with nice intensity of cherry fruit. Clean, somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Translucent in the glass offering power without weight. Nice QPR and nice wine. (1891 views)
Tasted by jrick on 3/6/2022 & rated 93 points: Absolutely wonderful wine, puts the ”love” in ”loveable” for me. Red berried, wild forest raspberries and lingonberries, red orange, roses and violet, a little minty in the end. Fresh, with some rustic and slightly bitter tannin. Like I said, wonderful. Great QPR.  Tasted by timothynbond on 2/19/2022 & rated 92 points: Decanted two hours before serving. Medium garnet color. Initially a bit reserved but eventually opened up into mushrooms and some almost port-like aromas. Medium-body, medium-plus acid with medium-low tannins that offer just a hint of grip. Bright cherries on the palate along with blood orange and some good minerality into the finish. The acid really makes this wonderful with food. Continues to be a great value. (1597 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 1/25/2022 & rated 92 points: As tasty as the last bottle! (1322 views)
Tasted by Aris1a on 1/23/2022 & rated 89 points: Fruit driven. Sour cherries, raspberries pomegranate. Tannins a bit overwhelming. A bit unbalanced and too rustic for my taste. (1101 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 12/13/2021 & rated 92 points: Tasty raspberry, rose petal, and earthy notes on the nose and lively palate with delicious tannins on the moderate finish. Drinking beautifully! (1121 views)

Tasted by timothynbond on 8/4/2021 & rated 92 points: Decanted 30 minutes before serving. Translucent dusty garnet. Took some time for the aromas to open up but eventually offered some cherries, dried leaves, and watermelon fruit roll-up. Medium body with medium-to-medium-low tannins and medium-plus acid. Juicy cherries, blood orange, some balsamic notes, and good length to the finish. This continues to punch well above its price point. (1540 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 7/6/2021 & rated 92 points: Tasty raspberry, rose petal, and earthy notes on the nose and lively palate with delicious tannins on the moderate finish. Drinking beautifully! (1482 views)
Tasted by fred o. on 7/3/2021: Light burgundy with a brown tinge.
Nose some roses.
Palate strongly mineral, iron, tart strawberry. Still young I think, nice typicity and restraint. 91 pts (500 views)
Tasted by EMichels on 7/3/2021 & rated 90 points: Classic; Clean; Fresh (1496 views)
Tasted by Rieslingfan on 7/2/2021: Ripe cherry fruit, a vase of freshly cut flowers, and a background note of spiced licorice - this is a lovely wine. Light bodied yet deep, elegant yet assertive, the overall impression is of a wine that knows what it is, and is proud of it. The color would lead a Nebbiolo neophyte to think it was dilute, but there’s wonderful presence. Drink now with a significant decant, or let it slumber. It has the elements to evolve. (1685 views)
Tasted by fussyeater on 6/17/2021 & rated 92 points: Chilled to 3C and opened at 1700 al fresco on a warm and slightly muggy early summer evening to accompany a bbq of ribeye steaks. Appearance is translucent although on the darker side and almost bricking. Nose: medicinal, cranberry, hint of pomegranate, and steam evaporating from hot stones. Palette: fairly high acidity apparent, structure to age but totally approachable now, very savoury and notes of sour cherry and slightly saline. Finish: lasts for 10 seconds and provides refreshment. Excellent with ribeye steaks :) (1457 views)

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Regional History:
The wines of Piemonte are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piemonte was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piemontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine - most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a French woman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour - later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy - this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. Outside of the Langhe, the most prominent area of wine production in Piemonte is the chain of sub-alpine hills that run through the provinces of Novara and Vercelli. Here the Romans introduced spionia, an ancient variety that thrived in foggy climates. Whether this was in fact a genetic ancestor of Nebbiolo is unknown, but the derivation of its name, Spanna, is now how the locals refer to this noble grape. The Morainic soils, mostly deposited along the Sesia River, are of glacial origin and produce more medium-bodied, aromatically driven nebbiolo than in the Langhe. The appellations of note in Novara are Gattinara, Lessona and Bramaterra, and in Vercelli are Ghemme, Fara, Boca, and Szizzano.
