Piercing aromatics, lemon oil, funk, only a little wooly, oh wow, the acid and slate, oily texture, so looong. Really fantastic. (428 views) | | Tasted by WEB,III on 1/17/2024 & rated 89 points: Bitter inflections on finish. Have never loved this vintage. (463 views) | | Tasted by WEB,III on 9/21/2023 & rated 91 points: Oaky… (557 views) | | Tasted by philmtl on 5/6/2022: Pop and pour. This could have benefited from a splash decant to blow off the touch of reduction and help the fruit come to the foreground on the nose. But, last night, there was no time for that. Aromas of pear, white peach, some vanilla cream and some interesting herbal scents (hay, honeysuckle). The palate is nicely integrated with some nice ripe fruit on entry along with beeswax giving this wine a very pleasant and rich mouthfeel. The bright acidity appears on the mid-palate and cuts through the fruit and oak very nicely. Along with the acidity comes some refreshing crushed stones and citrus notes all the way to a long finish. Very good. The structure will probably keep this aging nicely but this bottle had very nice balance and complexity. I might age some for science but a lot of them will be drunk shortly. (1429 views) | | Tasted by Villon on 3/24/2022 & rated 92 points: De mémoire: excellent, assez riche et frais à la fois, élevage appuyé donnant de la rondeur. (1397 views) | | Tasted by winchester-xi on 2/19/2022: Very pretty, crystalline Chenin, but a faint caramel note emerged as it warmed. Don’t know whether this was due to the barrels used during winemaking or storage issues (auction bottle) or something else, but it didn’t do the wine any favors, imho. (1303 views) | | Tasted by evjoh on 12/16/2021: Peach, honeysuckle, petrol, jasmine, wet stone, and Sprite.
The somm at The Modern in NYC recommended this as an alternative to dry Riesling and she really delivered. It’s not quite as acidic as Riesling, but it has comparable complexity. It's noticeably oilier though.
The best part? A 2* restaurant has this on their list for <2x market value. (1279 views) | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 11/26/2021: Tulip yellow. Toasted coconut aromas-yum, I'm about to drink suntan lotion! All about the oak in texture and flavor, although there is a pleasant complement of citrus and excellent acidity as well. Not a style I embrace, let's just leave it at that. Each time I've tasted this, the wood seems more and more intrusive. (1823 views) | | Tasted by ciaovito on 11/14/2021 & rated 94 points: Another beautiful bottle of Collier! My impressions are not very similar to some of these other tasting notes. Beeswax, lime peel, guava, stone fruits abound and I love this wine. Yes, of course, there is tons of acidity and I am an acid freek so this is not a hindrance to my palate. Day 2 much more open and ready to please. The fruit is a bit more round and the acid still present but aiding not abetting sell me all your bottles please Onto Day 3. More electric than ever. The fruit is widening and fleshing out. There’s an oak thing, minimal, going on which just appeared. Nothing gone missing. I would give a good bottle another 3-5 years. 10 years sounds tight. (977 views) | | Tasted by french16 on 4/26/2021: Wow, this was damn good. After an encounter with another Collier '15 tow years ago which was showing hot and almost with RS I was a little afraid. I was wrong! Beautiful nose with apricot, pear, chalk. Palate is full of energy despite its richness with nice acidity. Borderline exotic without crossing the line. Long finish. Very good. (1480 views) | | Tasted by WEB,III on 1/31/2021 & rated 91 points: Far showier than any vintage Collier tasted previously. Hopefully, the new oak integrates. Minerality is overwhelmed by new oak now. (1659 views) | | Tasted by jnewman77 on 1/24/2021: Really quite a lovely wine; first bottle from this producer; the nose is explosive with ripe peaches, pears, almost some peach pie, some earthy hints, floral notes, and a bit of dried hay; the palate is rich and starts round until a laser beam of acidity takes over and drives this through; a lovely dry chenin that has lots of development potential. Will be very interesting to follow. (1510 views) | | Tasted by amenges on 1/23/2021 & rated 91 points: Very acidic with strong green apple taste. Mildly oaked but the acidity overpowers the vanilla. Has some notes of a burgundy with some mineralogy and floral notes however solidly a Loire overtone. Ate with salmon and a heavier cream sauce which did take some of the edge off of the acidity. (1300 views) | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 1/22/2021: Medium yellow. When I smelled buttered popcorn, orange, and vanilla, I could've sworn that I had poured a ripe vintage Mâconnais wine. Medium to full bodied, quite glycerine. Good underlying citrus and better acidity than the last bottle a year ago, but my, the oak is much more noticeable too, and it dominates the mid-palate and finish with unappealing toastiness and astringency. This is the Guiberteau style of Saumur gone horribly wrong. I am really disappointed with how this has turned out and wish I had consumed all of my bottles before the wood proved to be so intrusive. (1904 views) | | Tasted by grafstrb on 1/3/2021 & rated 91 points: -- popped and poured -- -- tasted non-blind over 2 to 3 hours --
NOSE: fresh lily; honey; candle wax; strong honey note; medium-light apple aspect.
BODY: medium golden yellow color; medium bodied.
TASTE: medium+ to high acidity; tastes a lot like Arcadian's Sleepy Hollow Chardonnay (and, in fact, that is *exactly* what Ashley guessed when I gave this to her blind) -- it is a bit less rich, perhaps, than the Arcadian Chard; quite ripe; kiss of oak (a pretty big kiss, really); hint of hay on the finish; a bit creamy/lactic; 13% alc. is well-hidden. This was more ponderous than I was expecting, given the vintage and the producer's reputation. Very nice, but I'm on the fence about it being worth the money.
50, 5, 12, 16, 8 = 91 (1225 views) | | Tasted by maxima on 11/15/2020 & rated 89 points: Super beau Chenin. Ample et structuré. Pommes et agrumes avec une belle acidité. Droit et incisif avec une finale pas très longue mais qui fait saliver. Très bon vin. (1664 views) | | Tasted by Jason Stein on 9/25/2020 & rated 91 points: The riper vintage shows here in a broader-shouldered profile, with crystalline candied ginger, poached pears and almonds. Still plenty of acid to provide tension, accompanied by notes of green apple and lemon. A very graceful, "burgundian" expression of chenin blanc, but vibrant and full of energy in a way that screams Loire. (1106 views) | | Tasted by vulgar little monkey on 7/25/2020 & rated 94 points: Consistent with my previous bottle. This is such a sinewy wine without being at all heavy or ponderous. For whatever reason, these Collier wines really hit a sweet spot for me. This has a long and beautiful life ahead of it.
(1282 views) | | Tasted by Throughthegrapevine on 6/1/2020 & rated 94 points: Blew me away! Notes of ripe apricot (marillen), pear, yellow apple, with some flintiness. There is also a part of it that reminds me of walking in a wet forrest with pine trees. There is some kid of white flower in the background, but can’t quit put my finger on what. The acidity makes it really balanced. (1337 views) | | Tasted by vulgar little monkey on 4/11/2020 & rated 94 points: Stunning. I'm really in love with the whites from Collier. This shows the warmth and joyful fruit of the vintage but with a strong backbone and density. At maturity this will be incredible, but it is great now. (1326 views) | | Tasted by drwine2001 on 8/23/2019: Medium yellow. Intriguing aromas of citrus, vanilla, and lavender (yes, lavender). Medium weight but broad, fairly low acidity for Chenin, and a good amount of soil. Very open, quite tasty. (1993 views) | | Tasted by Atmosphere on 6/18/2019 & rated 90 points: Domaine du Collier 2015 - Saumur Blanc
