Community Tasting Notes (average 93 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 17 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by hprphf on 5/4/2024 & rated 92 points: Next to 18, ever so slightly poxed and quite alcoholic, good white fruit and decent weight. 92 (147 views)
Tasted by Vas19 on 2/4/2024 & rated 93 points: Really nice bottle of meursault. Good complexity. (515 views)
Tasted by lepetitchateau on 11/23/2023 & rated 94 points: The most floral and mineral of the three bottles consumed over the Thanksgiving holiday period - an absolute delight, and a good omen for this wine’s further positive evolution. (587 views)

Flowery, white fruits too, pears, touch of honey and butter, very typical Meursault, gorgeous palate too, balanced and with enough acidity to support the slight richness. (785 views)
Tasted by acyso on 3/26/2023 & rated 93 points: Heater week; 3/26/2023-4/3/2023 (Chicago, IL): Next to the Perrières, this felt like it just wasn't as well put-together. A bit plump and unshapely with loads of fruit. Of course, that's not actually true -- I've had this wine in isolation and quite liked it, and it just goes to show what comparisons can do. But there's no denying the quality here of the winemaking, and how much the style appeals to me. (1913 views)
Tasted by rc@ughey on 10/31/2022 & rated 93 points: This has opened up considerably just in the past year but it still has so far to go. Brilliantly constructed wine with dense yellow fruit and tons of extract. Very satisfying. (1299 views)
Tasted by WKC on 6/8/2022 & rated 92 points: Wonderful pure nose of stone and mineral. Needs to be decanted and given an hour or two of air time before it softens up but it has lovely fundamental material to improve considerably in another 3-5 years. QPR is a bit debateable and although I like this producer, I do think there are equally good producers out there at more acceptable QPR. Boillot / Roux etc (1315 views)
Tasted by KimberJ on 10/1/2021 & rated 95 points: burned almonds (378 views)
Tasted by rc@ughey on 9/21/2021: Incredible raw material -- dense and crunchy and long -- but very coiled and reduced at this stage, even with significant decanting. Needs 5-10 years. (2090 views)
Tasted by Condrieu82 on 7/8/2021 & rated 92 points: Nose gives out some wood notes. The palate shows an excellent acidity, that balances the lemon and green apple flavors and the green pepper notes that come out at the end. Vanilla and oak in general are felt towards the ending in a nice, not overpowering way. Very good. (1576 views)
Tasted by LW31 on 5/23/2021: Delicious. Really great showing, albeit still young. Mineral, lovely fruit, saline on finish. Perfect balance. Maybe best vintage for this wine from Germain? (1638 views)
Tasted by DCornutt on 5/17/2021: Lots of reduction to start. Very mineral. With air it shows very precise lemon fruit. This will go a while. (1417 views)
Tasted by DCornutt on 3/8/2021: Terrific! Mineral. Precise. This is stunning and will only get better. (1385 views)
Tasted by acyso on 6/26/2020 & rated 93 points: I've been really falling for the Germain wines. There's something here that really just speaks to me. Just the right amount of reduction, the balance of acidity and minerality, a fullness on the palate, everything just seems to tick the boxes for me. This bottle is no exception. It has the freshness and verve of the vintage, as well as a fleshy, tropical sweetness to the fruit. (2513 views)
Tasted by B Paul on 3/27/2020: First time having this producer and I am impressed. Excellent wine with everything in balance. (1378 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
