Tasted by Schwarzer Hund on 5/29/2018: pale yellow with a greenish tinge, floral citrus and apple nose, citrus and apple/pear fruit, some acidity, long spicy finish. Good with pan roated halibut. (858 views)
Tasted by maxfischer on 4/18/2016 & rated 91 points: Extraordinary straw green color. Chalky, sweet and mature apple notes on the nose with soft mineral underpinning. On the palate, mature, but by no means declining, with a rich, smooth honeyed layer. It finishes much the same way. Very good California chard drinking at its peak. (1283 views)
Tasted by maxfischer on 3/25/2016 & rated 91 points: Beautiful deep gold color. Crushed flowers and rocks on the nose. Vibrant, rich and fresh on the palate, honey flecked, soft and rounded (without any buttery fat) on the palate with still a brace of good minerality slips down, refreshing and lingering. Balanced, very good example of Cali Chard. (1261 views)
Tasted by davudvl on 12/1/2011 & rated 89 points: Good solid chard. (2565 views)
Tasted by Didman on 8/9/2011 & rated 93 points: Drinking really well right now. (2488 views)
Tasted by herberto on 5/5/2011 & rated 91 points: Nice. Crisp. Unspectacular. (1964 views)
Tasted by kr522 on 12/25/2010 & rated 93 points: had a second bottle, not nearly as magical as the first but still quite good. it was more muted (1956 views)
Tasted by kr522 on 12/20/2010 & rated 97 points: may be the best Chardonnay i've tasted. I'll confess I'm not a white wine lover, but wines like this could change my thinking. When I do drink whites I've always been partial to Burgundies, Chablis and Riesling because I don't like the heavy fatness of American Chardonnay's. But this wine has the best of all worlds...the lushness of an American Chard while maintaining a delicate character. And it's very complex owing to a strong minerality.

Nothing short of fabulous from the first whiff to the last sip. (2078 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 10/21/2010 & rated 94 points: CITRUS, PINEAPPLES, & OTHER TROPICAL FRUITS IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR ALONG WITH PEARS IN THE FLAVOR. COMPLEX CHARDONNAY WITH A LONG FINISH AND A GREAT MATCH WITH DIVERSE FOODS (154 views)
Tasted by rjtanner on 8/6/2009 flawed bottle: Corked? John ash dinner with olchs (1601 views)
Tasted by jeff nowak on 7/4/2009 & rated 94 points: an absolutely beautifaul calichard showing tight composition and luscious fruit without too strong of an oak treatment. great acid and structural integrity blended with fine orange, lemon, lime, and pear. drunk a bit too young with no remorse, as it evolves it could easily reach classic status. (1625 views)
Tasted by fredb on 4/26/2009: Bright yellow-gold color. Nose of vanilla, flowers, papaya, and butter. On the palate, this shows a very oily, buttery component with vanilla, some nuttiness, and a note of butterscotch and stone in the background. This is a big wine that shows a lot of wood right now. Of the vineyard designates, this may be my least favorite. (1472 views)
Tasted by pgordon62 on 7/7/2008 & rated 92 points: Lemon oil, face powder, tropical fruits, a nutty funk. Steely but with a lush, creamy element. Very enjoyable. Will likely improve with another year or so in the cellar. (1554 views)
Tasted by Screameagle on 6/19/2008 & rated 95 points: A beautiful chardonnay that showing extremely well now even though it is so young. One of the best chards I've consumed in recent memory. (1737 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
