Tasted by Montana on 1/10/2021 & rated 92 points: This is a beautiful wine. Lots of fruit with a long finish. Still drinking well. (823 views)
Tasted by JJKinch on 11/27/2019 & rated 92 points: -from .375. Popped and poured.
Dark fruit (strong cherry, black cherry), strong spice, strong floral/ rose, bright - nice acidity. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable. (885 views)
Tasted by JJKinch on 6/13/2019 & rated 90 points: Dark fruit (cherry, blueberry, slight plum), nice spice, floral/ rose. Really enjoyable. (872 views)
Tasted by thomasjjackson on 12/9/2016 & rated 92 points: Tried again - still 5 bottles left - same as tasting note from 2014 - but more intensive - nose now with tobacco - flavor liquorous - finish never ending - chapeau (2492 views)
Tasted by JWG on 8/22/2016: Drank in poor glasses, so no real notes. It tasted lovely, but hard to get at the real wine. So, I'll wait for the next bottle and make sure when I'm visiting a friend that I have good glasses with me. (2556 views)
Tasted by JWG on 8/25/2015 & rated 94 points: Definitely moving up. Takes at least an hour to open. Classic light tar and roses on the nose. Palate is medium body with spice, leather and light tar notes and big nebbiolo fruit. There is a nice hit of acidity. Great balance. Tannins kick in near end, but still have a nice kick. Lots of life ahead. (3022 views)
Tasted by wynnewood500 on 7/13/2015: Served at a family gathering. No detailed notes. (2822 views)
Tasted by JWG on 12/23/2014 & rated 92 points: Still young. Takes about an hour to open. Classic light tar and roses on the nose. Palate is medium body with leathery and light tar notes and significant nebbiolo fruit. The fruit is countered by a nice hit of acidity. Balanced overall. Tannins kick in near end, but are moderate but still have a nice kick. Delicious. Despite that these notes are essentially the same as 3 years ago, I think we need to wait another few years to see this one blossom, possibly into the 94 range. (3245 views)
Tasted by thomasjjackson on 11/30/2014 & rated 91 points: dark color with orange twinkles and long legs - very intense barolo nose with wild cherries and sandal wood - very thick flavor, figs and raspeerys, a little orange - long finish (1841 views)
Tasted by Blake Brown on 6/18/2013 & rated 90 points: serious wine in it youth with deep dark purple color and lots of blueberry and black cherry along with the fine structure and immense depth; decanting probably would have allowed this to open more fully and air out the firm tannins; it finished quite dry; I expect this to evolve into a magnificent, balanced beauty down the line. (2809 views)
Tasted by Nyindallas on 5/18/2012 & rated 90 points: Very dark ruby with no sign of bricking. Lots of new leather on the nose in addition to ceder, black fruits and the slightest hint of coffee. Palette mirror the nose with older leather, black cherry, a whack of cocoa and an espresso bean finish. Still a bot young. First of 4 bottles. Decanted for 45 minutes so far. Well made and nicely balanced. Highly recommended. Shame not to enjoy food with this wine. (3085 views)
Tasted by lkatz on 4/12/2012 & rated 90 points: quite nice with italian pork chop (3071 views)
Tasted by JWG on 12/8/2011 & rated 91 points: Still quite young. Tar and roses on the nose -- quite a classic. Leathery notes along with big fruit, with a signfiicant acid kick, and fairly strong tannins. Needs more time. A pleasurable drink but needs time to come into a more complete balance. (3078 views)
Tasted by Justy on 9/19/2011 & rated 92 points: Drank 2011-09. Brick colored hue. Rounded nose encompassing of light cherry, mushrooms, earth, flowers and some other plummy fruit. Tannins are still somewhat young, yet elegant with a long finish. Acidity is present, not overwhelming. Still has legs to go on for at least 5 more years. Great to drink now as well if paired with correct food. (1000 views)
Tasted by wineshlub on 4/1/2011 & rated 89 points: 375ml decanted 90 minutes before drinking. It needed all that time and a bit more. Pleasant aromas of spice and earthy cherry. Full palate of cherries, licorice. Leather notes dominate the finish - which also shows a bit of heat. Good, not great, barolo - but a good barolo is pretty great compared to much of the competition. (3468 views)
Tasted by JWG on 11/29/2010 & rated 90 points: Still young. Takes about an hour for it to start to open. Classic light tar and roses on the nose. Palate is medium body with leathery and light tar notes and significant nebbiolo fruit. Balanced overall. Tannins kick in near end, but are moderate and pretty well integrated. Very enjoyable and should develop farther. (2933 views)
Tasted by jbearr on 11/20/2010 & rated 88 points: Copper/Amber color, on the downward slope with a bit more heat on the finish than I remember. (2883 views)
Tasted by mdobro on 11/15/2010 & rated 90 points: a lot of fruits in the nose, very long it's ok (2769 views)
Tasted by lkatz on 10/17/2010 & rated 90 points: very nice with veal marsala (2697 views)
Tasted by aajder on 4/14/2010 & rated 91 points: Brilliant color. The nose shows forward aromas of stewed berries, flowers, brown spices, minerals and a hint of tobacco. This is medium full bodied on the palate with excellent concentration and good class. The medium plus length finish features some alcoholic heat. (351 views)
Tasted by Mrbuzz on 12/30/2009 & rated 92 points: Still pretty tight...but after a few hours, it opens to beautiful garnet dusty floral rose spice, dried orange rinds, anise, earth tones. Rustic wild berry/raspberry/cherry fruit with a good dose of citrus acidity. Tasty now with air...but could use a little more aging. Wish I had more. (3103 views)
Tasted by Mrbuzz on 8/12/2008 & rated 92 points: Decanted for 2 hrs....needs more. Light translucent ruby, slight orange tinge, color. Beautiful dusty floral spice, tobacco, licorice, dried oranges/raspberry/cherry nose. Very tight and firm in the mouth...but with a nice plate of Chicken Marsala....you get fresh crushed berries, floral dried roses, tobacco, mouth puckering citrus acidity. Great flavors..just in need of time to mellow. Love the dusty cherry spice. Try again in 2012. +pts (3273 views)
Tasted by 5laton on 8/18/2007: Nice typical nose, rusty light cherry fruit, caramel, sweetly ripe without being syrupy. Long finish. (3460 views)
Tasted by BigPoppaMD on 7/11/2007 & rated 92 points: I love this wine. Complimented every course of a 5-course meal. Crabcakes with shrimp, beef tenderloin with foie gras, sorbet, New York strips with foie gras, garlic sauteed spinach, potato wedges and cheesecake. (3762 views)

Marcarini

Producer Website
http://www.marcarini.it/en/wines/langhe-nebbiolo-doc-lasarin-2
The splendid "Lasarin" is produced from the grapes of our youngest nebbiolo-Barolo vineyards and, in particular, from the nebbiolo vineyard in Neviglie. It unites the grape’s noble heritage with enjoyable freshness and easy drinking.

During the traditional ten-day fermentation period, the must is macerated in contact with the skins at a relatively low temperature. The maturation and refinement of the wine are conducted in such a manner so as to not alter the wine's natural freshness and fragrance.

The wine presents itself with a beautiful, subdued ruby-red color. Its full nose recalls flowers, raspberries and blackberries; in the mouth it is dry, balanced, velvety and enjoyably tannic, a legacy of the noble nebbiolo grape. After a brief period of aging in the bottle, the wine becomes increasingly smooth and velvety.

Even if “Lasarin” pairs well with all types of cuisine, it is particularly exalted by pasta dishes without too much sauce, white meat, grilled meat and fresh cheeses.
Its ideal glass is a large-bowl wine glass with long stem.

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Brunate

Located on the southern border of the La Morra, though part of the vineyard is located in the neighboring commune of Barolo. Among the top vineyards on Piedmonte. As in Burgundy the best vineyards are all sub-divided in to small plots and with fragmented ownership. Consists of Tortonian soil. Typically produces more open, velvety, and plush wines. They are feminine, yet possess considerable structure and concentration.

Barolo

Regional History:
The wines of Piedmont are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piedmont was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piedmontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine -- most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a frenchwoman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour -- later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy -- this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. At the heart of the region and her reputation are Alba and the Langhe Hills. This series of weathered outcroppings south of the Tanaro River is of maritime origin and composed mainly of limestone, sand and clay, known as terra bianca. In these soils -located mainly around the towns of Barolo and Barbaresco -- the ancient allobrogica, now Nebbiolo, achieves its renowned fineness and power.
