Tasted by ayalao3 on 3/22/2024 & rated 95 points: 95-96 This is a great wine. Red fruits and a lot of freshness. (5970 views)
Tasted by Purple Tooth on 3/10/2024: I hate to be a jerk. But..I qualify. I have 3 cases of this in 3 formats. The first time I tried this I said, I dot get it. Its been a long night and I will reserve judgment. This time I popped a 1/2 to check in. Interesting? Yes, If you like reading between lines. Otherwise, a head scratcher. This tells me that I either dont know much about wine, or I am shamelessly calling out my own mistakes. Ok ok....Now you need to know about the wine, instead of reading my whine...

In a grapy stage, this is the hopeful voice and the positive part of this encounter. I hope that what I taste as oak creme, alcohol, and underdeveloped fruit turns into something sensational in 7+ years. Meanwhile, cellar carry for me, and an advenure for you. Please write back....HOLD___ (6293 views)
Tasted by SlimShaney on 9/22/2023 & rated 92 points: Nice and smooth and well made and modern (which is great) but also a bit boring (10717 views)
Tasted by salil on 8/10/2023 & rated 94 points: Brilliant wine. Need to buy a lot of this because while it's very young and primary right now, the balance and depth have me very excited about where this is headed long-term. Remarkably light on its feet with bright acids adding a nice a freshness to the red and black fruited flavours here, and lots of savoury and smoky complexity in the background behind the fruit. Can't wait to see how this ages. (10859 views)
Tasted by ohne_musik on 5/19/2023 & rated 97 points: Rather subdued on the nose, some cherries and gravel, but just a hint of what is to come. The first sip saturates the mouth with a beautiful profusion of flavors, which only grow deeper and more vibrant over the course of 30 minutes. Cherries, cherry pit, raspberry coulis, a hint of licorice and blackcurrant, scorched earth, gravel, and a bit of well seasoned beefsteak and a bit of muskiness. I love Keith’s description below of the “deep dark underbelly of graves” - so evocative and appropriate. Ultra fine tannins, a silky texture, and sports a discreet but sinewy structure that is so effortlessly classy. The finish is monumentally long and one must resist immediately reaching for the glass after swallowing.

This has the sunny disposition of the 2019 vintage, but it is a perfect example of the neo-classical Bordeaux profile with its 13.2% alcohol that should be able to charm all but the grumpiest of classicists. This is almost certainly the best 2019 I’ve tried, even better than the smashingly good Lynch Bages, and probably better than PLL, although I only had a small taste of that at UGC. I still have half a case, but for this price, maybe I should be thinking about having a couple cases.

A tiny 2 oz pour left for day 4. It grabs you by the shoulders firmly, stares deep into your eyes, and says THIS IS PESSAC. Campfire cinders, blackcurrant, and well used humidor. Ooof wish I had 20 ounces of this left. (12147 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 5/14/2023 & rated 94 points: Bordeaux 2022 en Primeur and some recent vintages: Elegant with red fruit and toasty aromas. More restrained than the other 2019s at this stage. Like Haut Bailly, this cru always needs to sleep in the cellar a bit longer. (12914 views)
Tasted by Tschudix on 4/14/2023 & rated 93 points: pnp and drunk it for the first bbq in 2023.
Straight away present in the Nose with a lovely taste of dark and wild fruits (plums, blackcurrant, cherry), spicy notes (pepper, mint) - exactly what i love. the palate nevertheless is not that present as wished. after 1 hour i decided to wait one day for the next sip - lo and behold that was a good decision. now the palate gives much more and i go up to 93+ compared to 91-92 a day before. Extremly fresh and well balanced mixture of dark and red ripe fruits. The acidity is high. You feel the tannin but for my pleasant surprise very smooth. All in all i will wait for 2-3 years till i open the next bottle but makes already lot of fun to drink. (12229 views)
Tasted by jtreger on 4/1/2023 & rated 93 points: Dark fruits, leather, cigar box, and a hint of mint on the nose. Palate is more red fruited with great juicy acidity to counterbalance the weight of the concentrated fruit. Tannins are certainly there, but remarkably fine grained for so young a wine. Very nice wine now, with strong potential to age into a great wine. (10350 views)
Tasted by GrapeScott on 3/31/2023 & rated 96 points: Yes, even in 2023 you can make fantastic BDX at "only" 13.5% ABV. Let this serve as exhibit A. The nose bursts with gorgeous red fruits, raspberry, Rainier cherry and damson plum. Seductive and incredibly smooth even at this young age, with pomegranate, red currant and blood orange flavors, with a bit of leather and spice on the back end. This should evolve into something truly extraordinary but it is even better today than the outstanding 2018. Stunning. (9897 views)
Tasted by blanquito on 3/22/2023: Popped and poured into a decanter, given an hour to breathe… Very floral bouquet with accompanying scents of raspberry coulis. The palate is spicy, sweet and a touch boozy, pure… intense attack of sweet-tarts, quite cranberry, red zinger tea, some good midpalate chew without heaviness, some clenched tannins on the finish, which truly are a little powdery. After a short while, this clamps down tight, so I pour wine back into the bottle, cork it up and try again day 2… the next day this is showing much more on the palate. It is dense and deep, with strong notes of char and iodine, very mineral. I really approve of the style here, there’s no new oak or polished textures evident and the alcohol is very restrained, it really has a wonderful equilibrium. That said, this is not your old school claret, with all the rusticity finessed away. Layered and long, I am quite impressed by this and reload on some more to cellar. Hard to say when this will be ready for prime time, but I’ll wait at least 10 years before the next bottle. (9202 views)
Tasted by ayalao3 on 3/9/2023 & rated 95 points: Middle ground between austere and refined. Red fruits, evolving. Drinking good and enjoyable (9918 views)
Tasted by KAT9 on 2/25/2023 & rated 93 points: Aroma is earthy, red cherry, a hint of coffee after taste. On palate, tannin is so silky, almost cannot detect it. Acidity is high. Good finish, more elegant than normal. For $55, this is high quality. Can see it go up to 95 points in a few years, so with some food to tame the acidity. (9461 views)
Tasted by Mdahle on 2/11/2023: Red fruit with almost a cherry galette like character, blueberry and violet. A little leather and chocolate. Medium tannins and alcohol. Rich mouth feel. (9561 views)
Tasted by Anders Danielsen Lie on 2/5/2023 & rated 88 points: Litt merkelig opplevelse. Fase? (9916 views)
Tasted by Le Monty on 2/5/2023: Drank side-by-side with the '16. Pulled the cork and took a quick taste 24 hours before service. Decanted for an hour before heading out to dinner. Nose was showing some salinity and asparagus, some plums on the palate but not much else. Tannins are a little bigger than the '16 and it does have a similar freshness to it. Easy to drink like the '16, just not exciting at this stage, and I was not expecting it to be. Worth trying but I don't plan on opening another bottle anytime soon. (9119 views)
Tasted by Justin S on 1/21/2023: Tasty, but not what I expected. More of a raspberry / bright cherry / high-toned palate, which reminded me of something from Arnot Roberts and not Bordeaux. Not showing any secondary flavors (tobacco, oak, earth) yet, but quite lithe and burgundy-like. Good stuff, but let's see if time brings something more typical to what I was expecting. Perhaps this is how the wines were in the 70s as WK notes. (8544 views)
Tasted by Everything Ahead on 12/19/2022 & rated 93 points: To me, DDC is a unique, somewhat idiosyncratic wine for its region in that it comes across often as very Burgundian/Southern Rhone (think an elegant CDP from a cooler, older vintage) than Left Bank Bordeaux. But I always enjoy its rich, smooth texture and subtle complexity. This vintage continues a remarkably consistent streak from them going back to 2014.
Decanted for a few hours, double decanted and followed over a few nights, this was best on the final night, as at first it was all wound up as a number of '19 Bordeaux have been and also had some funky reductive/animalistic (raw beef) and burnt hair notes at first that took a few hours to dissipate. It is mostly a red fruited wine, as this Chateau typically is, with lots of kirsch and raspberry notes. Not a lot of complexity yet but by the second night some coal fire notes hovered in the background. A wine of great finesse and a noteworthy salty minerality. The '19 Calon Segur had by its side outshone it for sure, and yet this remains a lovely wine and a great companion at the table. I can imagine this improving in 5-10 years but I honestly don't understand the upper 90s scores by some critics, unless said critics prefer their LB Bordeaux to resemble Burgundy or Southern Rhones ... Rating: 93+ (10046 views)
Tasted by John McCabe on 12/16/2022 & rated 94 points: Another from a half bottle - shamelessly opening too early, but needed a half to round out the evening. Similar to previous notes. (9255 views)

60% CS / 30% M / 6% PV / 4% CF
(9220 views)
Tasted by Peraix on 12/6/2022 & rated 96 points: Cherries, dark berries and licourice. Salty aftertaste in a way you would rather expect a white wine to have. Should be in everyones cellar.

I will open my next bottle around 2030.

Tasted by pavel_p on 12/3/2022 & rated 92 points: UGC 2019 Singapore (Singapore): A bit closed, the nice black and red (!) fruit is however shining through. Medium tannins. This needs time. 92+ (9340 views)
Tasted by remyworldpeace on 12/1/2022 & rated 93 points: Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux 2019 Vintage Tasting, Singapore: Tasted at UGC Bordeaux 2019 tasting in Singapore.

Bigger than Les Carmes Haut-Brion, with lovely tannic structure. Concentrated red and purple fruit with a smokey earthiness. Vibrant acidity.

Needs years longer to mature and properly open up but excellent potential. Rated as it is already showing well. Anticipated range 92-95. (8372 views)
Tasted by azzah on 11/27/2022 & rated 93 points: Florals on the nose. Medium bodied, but with long flavours. Dark plums and berries, almost a cranberry-like acidity, a hint of salinity, anise, maybe even a bit of leather and meaty complexity. I really like the minerally acidity - it’s been pick to maintain freshness - and the very fresh tannins. Should age a beauty but no problems decanting and drinking a bottle now. (7821 views)
Tasted by xiangjing91 on 11/26/2022 & rated 92 points: International Congress of Chinese Cuisine and Wine 2022 Masterclasses (Goodwood Park Hotel, Singapore): Medium ruby, tinge of alcohol on the nose, ripe fruits and intense on the palate. Chewy tannins that need a few more years to integrate with good medium+ acidity. (8099 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Bordeaux Wine Guide

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
